In finding “I’m crazy!” people boring & annoying

Sittinonthefloor · 29/07/2020 09:37

The type of person who is all loud and “life & soul of the party” often saying “I’m so crazy... I’m mad, me!” talking about themselves all the time and oblivious to others. I’ve recently encountered such a person, who’ll be hard to avoid. Any coping strategies? Or am I just a dull, misery guts?

Usually I find these people are primary school teachers.

(Waits to get shot down).

Sittinonthefloor · 29/07/2020 09:40

🤣 I’m a teacher!

Yanbu

Also those who try just that bit too hard to be 'quirky'

TheFaerieQueene · 29/07/2020 09:44

I’m lucky to have never encountered someone like this.

Armi · 29/07/2020 09:45

I am a secondary school teacher and would make the observation that this unfortunate aspect of personality is very common amongst male teachers, although I have also anecdotal evidence of some female colleagues being like it too. You can spot the latter by their flashing Christmas bauble earrings, donned the first day back after October half term.

crosser62 · 29/07/2020 09:48

Annoying yes.
I wear them down with my boringness and mundane nature.
It might take a few days.

They calm & come down to soil level eventually.
I don’t feed it nor do I show any response.
I’m a boring, blank person so it’s kinda wasted on me.

The trouble comes when there two of them. Dear lord. That’s when you are in for a bumpy ride.

DCIRozHuntley · 29/07/2020 09:50

"Wheeeeey, what am I like?!"

LolaSmiles · 29/07/2020 09:50

YANBU

I worked with one but instead of the "I'm crazy mad me", it was "I'm so daft hahaha, here's another craazzzy story". The crazy story can easily be summed up as "TLDR: I abandoned common sense and a mildly awkward situation occurred / I'm probably not going to do this silly thing but I'll raise it for attention".

HeronLanyon · 29/07/2020 09:53

I avoid people like this. I also feel rather sorry for them just because they have seemingly little awareness and perhaps quite a bit of insecurity. I then also sometimes think what’s the harm ? For me the harm is they are exhausting, socially inept and selfish, socially intimidating to some I think, monotonous to be around.

JaJaDingDong · 29/07/2020 09:53

Ha ha! The one I know is ac teacher - with Christmas earrings, and other Christmas clothes!!

LolaSmiles · 29/07/2020 09:54

Yes! There must be one in every school. There also has to be someone who tries very hard to let the world know that they hate Christmas too. It must come up during every conversation, but you know come December their social media will be full of Christmas things.

HerBigChance · 29/07/2020 09:55

God no, YADNBU. People like this are deeply tedious and will be quick to tell you that you are humourless if you dare to mention it.

If there are two of them, you could introduce them to one another and let them get on with being Ker-aaazy together, but in my experience people like this get quickly affronted if they're not 'the only one in the village' that's like this.

00100001 · 29/07/2020 09:56

I have actually told a person like this they need to clam down, they don't need to act like that around me

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 29/07/2020 10:02

Yes yes yes yes yes!!

I have two cousins who irritate the life out of me for their extreme personalities as much as I do love them too.. One is an elevenerife-r. The other is so 'keeeeeraaaaaazy!!!!', can't take a straight picture, always has to do something 'wacky', seriously - every single picture has a 'lollookatmei'msomental!' expression. I hope she never goes missing as the pictures given to the police would be interesting...! Has to be the life an soul and take over EVERYTHING and have the center of attention at all times.

When you catch the other side of her she is lovely and so helpful and kind.... but then it clicks back in and she goes from 0-fullonwhackaday in 10 seconds!

LockdownLump · 29/07/2020 10:06

Yanbu. Think Colin 'off his trolley' Hunt from The Fast Show.

Think they are wacky, but in reality, the craziest thing they do is wear a novelty item of clothing.

Bluepolkadots42 · 29/07/2020 10:07

Yessssss- I find this type of person inanely irritating and exhausting to be around. Sometimes I can put it down to age e.g. not matured properly yet, but other times I feel sorry for them and think that type of behaviour is masking real insecurities about people liking them/ controlling or trying to control how to perceive them.

I've had to work with people like this over the years and for the benefit of my blood pressure and sanity I have to give them a real wide berth, don't engage in conversations with them etc.

SecretSquirreI · 29/07/2020 10:09

I often think people like this are deeply unhappy and worry for what they're like when alone with their thoughts.

The desperation of trying to seem interesting and fun makes me very uncomfortable. And yes. Annoyed.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 29/07/2020 10:10

My friend collects these type of aquaintances and she builds them up " you must meet John he's a right nutter ! You'll love him "
I know I won't.

Fleamaker123 · 29/07/2020 10:12

Yes I know the type, similar to people who 'say it like it is'... 'I've got such a big gob haha!' They say it like it's something to be proud of! Well no, actually, you're bloody rude. And they don't like meeting similar types either.

PhilSwagielka · 29/07/2020 10:18

You mean like Colin Hunt off The Fast Show?

@Fleamaker123 People who 'say it like it is' nearly always mean 'I am a rude loudmouthed gobshite'. I mean, I say what I think all the time, I'm autistic and we tend to not be very good at the whole tact thing, but in no way is it a good quality to have, and it's gotten me into trouble many times.

TimelyManor · 29/07/2020 10:18

This.
IwanttogotoMataland · 29/07/2020 10:21

I've long thought that novelty clothing is a substitute for an actual personality.

Littlepond · 29/07/2020 10:21

Haha I have a friend like this who used to be a primary school teacher 😂 she is very self obsessed, a lot of “you know what I’m like, bonkers!” And thinks she is super quirky etc. Where actually she isn’t a very good friend cos all she talks about is herself. I’ve been going through a difficult time MH wise and she knows this yet never asks about it. But will talk about her own MH all the time.

Mothermorph · 29/07/2020 10:21

I'm really laughing at this and thinking of loads of timmy mallet clones.
I have one friend who is seems to have a lot of themed accessories for many many different events and describes her children as crazy on any sm posts (they seem v normal to me) but shes pretty normal and not attention seeking.
I'm almost disappointed (but relieved at the same time) that I dont know any of these type of characters!😂

SwedishEdith · 29/07/2020 10:21

I'm surprised you're only "finding" these people boring now. They've always been boring. Think Dave Lee Travis.
