I am being unreasonable.

Bit of background put my house up for sale, just after lockdown ended.
I had 9 viewing on the first Saturday and 3 offers. All at different levels one at full price from someone with something to sell, one just under the asking price think 10k in a chain, the third offer was 10% off the asking price, chain free mortgage offer in place. The first time buyers also wanted a second viewing before they offered and wanted me to cancel all other bookings so they could get first chance of buying it, they were told to F off. They put in an offer.
We negotiated with the first time buyers and managed to get them to offer 5% of the asking price this was still 40K under the asking price. but we had found a house and for ease went with them but told them that this was a fixed price and there would be no further movement on price from either party.
This was beginning of June, they have had a mortgage offer and surveyor round, all fine house was valued at over their offer, I did not move on our price.
Fast forward to beginning of July another surveyors has come round and found some issues, like moss of the roof I kid you not!! That the electrics are not up to current 2019 regulations, the house was re wired in 2016, that they should check the drainage, and one of the struts in the roof is bending by 5 degrees (this is not a supporting part and there is no movement and if they wanted to replace it, it would cost no more than £50.

My buyer wrote a long email to the estate agent 3.5 weeks after they got the report to say that they wanted a structural engineer to come into the house, a builder and a plumber and electrician and we would have to vacate the house for the day so that they could check everything.
He wants the electrician to take off all the plugs and check the wiring in some of the walls (Channel them out) but not be responsible for any damage. I told them to f off, he wants to check that the electrics are working and safe ( we live in the house with 4 kids).
He is now saying that I have to let him have access.
I have given him access on Thursday to look at the roof, but not to do any electrical work.
I have said that if he plays anymore games the house will be back on the market, I think he wants me to reduce the price, there is no chance.

@Daddynotmummy

I have the certs from when it was re wired but apparently that's not good enough as the plugs, lights etc could not work and be unsafe. Hence why I am done.

they have asked that the estate agent speaks to my husband.

In my last house I was replacing the kitchen and was set on one in a high end showroom, asked for a planner appointment and the manager (a woman) asked when was my husband free, as they like to ensure the husband is present during design planning!! Single me smiled frozenly nicely and said I would let them know, but it could be some years. I ignored all their follow-up voicemails (and ended up with a very similar kitchen, half the price from one of the chains who let me design and pay all by my little womanly self).

bravefox · 29/07/2020 20:05

@Teenangels

I was never going to consider, letting them in the house for a day.

The estate agent has told them that I am re marketing the house....
Countless emails asking me to re consider. Saying that will not need a electrician to come in as they now understand there is no need.
4 viewings confirmed for Sat.

Bravo @Teenangels - you've smashed this!

I had exactly this from Moben! He actually asked me what job I had to be able to afford it all by myself!

He reminded me several times that their prices started at £4K and was I sure I could afford it? He even said he wasn't going to bother getting the more expensive samples from his car... Fucker.

@Allergictoironing
Most new houses have numerous problems, my house is a solid 30's semi.
One 3 door down has just gone on the market, no extension, kitchen 40 years old, everything needs ripping out for 20k under my original price.

I’m so sorry to laugh but you’ve made my Wednesday. These people are more batshit than Dracula’s outhouse!!!!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 29/07/2020 20:15

Summerfish that's awful, even worse than my experience!! What a condescending knob.

twinmum2007 · 29/07/2020 20:31

Wait...what!! They wanted to work in your house to check the WIFI???? What planet are they on??!!!Confused

Kateguide · 29/07/2020 20:37

OP you are a legend. YANBU. They are totally CF. A day in your house?! Total prats that seem completely out of their depth. Sounds like you will have another offer soon.
Really pissed me off when he said 'Can I speak to your husband?' What a dick.

Keep us posted

Teenangels · 29/07/2020 20:45

@twinmum2007
No they wanted me and the 4 kids to leave the house for a day so they could get trades in to do extra reports on the house. They told me that their solicitor said that I had to give them access. Bollocks he did.
They wanted my WIFI password so they could work at my house while the trades were there. 😂 honestly they were that entitled.

You had three offers: get the estate agent to call the two you rejected.

MissConductUS · 29/07/2020 21:11

It's a seller's market. This CF'ery won't work any better the next time they try it on.

Teenangels · 29/07/2020 21:11

@GuidoTheKillerPimp
Unfortunately it is such a fast paced market that they will have offered on another house.

It's worth asking. They may have been outbid on the other houses.

A colleague put her house in NY on the market last week and got 8 offers in 2 days.

GabsAlot · 29/07/2020 21:33

good for you op theyre going to have such fun trying this on with others-speak to your husband ffs

my dh knows nothing about buying houses im no estate agent but i dealt with all the paperwork buying our house he just cam along to viewings

Oh I know that @Teenangels, I was purely referring to the regs being 100% up to date. But at least they would have an NHBC certificate to fix the myriad of problems that are always there in brand new houses.

I would never buy anything built later than the 70's and preferably 60's - I've seen too many housing estates going up to trust them!

Gohardorgohome · 29/07/2020 21:49

Been there, done that with first time buyers. I’d tell them where to go

Haha did they ask you to leave them lunch so they could check the kitchen and towels so they could check the bathroom? And clean sheets? 😂

pinkstripeycat · 29/07/2020 22:17

they have asked that the estate agent speaks to my husband.

Good luck with that one.... I don't have one.

😂 love this

Plunger · 29/07/2020 22:46

I pity whoever gets them as neighbours!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 29/07/2020 22:56

Sadly they will mess someone else around who won’t be strong enough to say no to their demands, someone vulnerable Sad

lopopo · 29/07/2020 23:01

I had this years ago when I sold during the last financial crisis. First time buyers messing around for months. I put the house back on the market and they were furious. I said fine be furious but you just have to exchange and it’s yours. They managed to sort themselves out pretty quickly after that..Sorry you’re having to go through this. But you know already you have something they want. Good luck to you!

notapizzaeater · 29/07/2020 23:16

They could buy your neighbours. Glad youVe told them to F off.

I once went in a Mercedes garage and they wouldn’t haggle with me without my husband. Idiots ! I was mystery shopping them. They got a delightful bollocking .....

AdoreTheBeach · 29/07/2020 23:36

Good for you OP. No one needs that shit. They’ll learn but it’ll cost them your house.

Best of luck with the viewings
