Absolutely gutted we cancelled our Greek holiday because of covid :{

We decided to cancel this year because we were concerned about having to isolate if anyone on the plane was found to have covid, and also because we thought it was too much money or a holiday that was potentially not going to be as good as pre/post covid what with masks, social distancing etc. But now I keep seeing pictures on Facebook etc of people seemingly having amazing holidays abroad. I also feel bad for my dc who've complied with home learning and been cooped up for months and should be on a lovely holiday nowSad

Can you rebook or do a lady minute trip?

Boshmama · 28/07/2020 11:42

Whoops! *Last minute!

AlternativePerspective · 28/07/2020 11:45

TBH I think that travel is so uncertain at the moment that you did the right thing cancelling early on.

A friend is just in the process of cancelling his holiday to Majorca which was booked two years ago for his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, and cancelling it last minute has caused endless amounts of stress and upset.

edwinbear · 28/07/2020 12:12

I think you did the right thing. People aren't posting pictures of 2 hr queues to book a slot on the beach/pool, or wearing face masks, stressing because they can't get an evening restaurant booking.

Plus the risk of the rules changing whilst you're away are really high. We're writing this year off as far as holidays are going.

Emmie12345 · 28/07/2020 12:14

I would have gone def

My sister is on way now and would love to be on that plane with her !

Vanillaradio · 28/07/2020 12:15

I think you did the right thing. My dps ought to be returning from Spain.today- they are pretty glad they cancelled! Things move so fast you never know where is going to be the next hotspot and what rules will come in- to me it is still too risky. Also- dont pay too much attention to Facebook- this doesn't always reflect reality!
Can you look for a last minute break in this country instead, plenty of lovely places to go.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/07/2020 12:16

Honestly OP most people have forgone a holiday this year, it sucks but your children are by no way in the minority.
If we had a crystal ball on covid we, as a country, wouldn’t be in the mess we are now.

LemonRabbit · 28/07/2020 12:42

Go on holiday in Britain @mostwonderfultime!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/07/2020 12:46

Go on holiday in Britain most people are- the costs are through the roof

Go on holiday in Britain

Yes, do this. Greece is totally over-rated with its fabulous weather, amazing scenery and fantastic food. Stay in the UK where it will probably piss it down 5 days out of 7!!

Coffeepot72 · 28/07/2020 12:54

We were supposed to be visiting a Greek island in June - obviously this got cancelled, but even though we theoretically now have the green light to re-book, we've decided to have a UK holiday this year. Because we don't fancy airports, planes, quarantine arrangements at either end, and god forbid either of us catches COVID overseas, the thought of being on a ventilator in a foreign hospital terrifies me. Devon will be just fine for us this year!

"Abroad" will still be there next year!

Echobelly · 28/07/2020 12:59

It's OK to be gutted, but I agree you did the right thing - everything is so uncertain. Our flights to US were cancelled and I decided to stay in the UK because, as the Spain debacle shows, things can change very fast.

We've taken 5 days away in UK instead (not Cornwall or SW given how busy they get though!)

Bebbanburger · 28/07/2020 13:01

We cancelled ours too, and to add insult to injury the kids favourite You tuber turned out to be where we should have been at the same time. We were not popular.
I don't think I have any regrets though. Too many uncertainties at the moment. I'm not all that sorry for people who end up stranded or having to isolate when they get home either...

This gave me the laugh I've needed today, thank you
daisypond · 28/07/2020 13:09

You did the right thing. We are not having a holiday at all this year, not abroad or the U.K.

Lindtballsrock · 28/07/2020 13:13

We cancelled our honeymoon and won’t be going abroad this year at all, it’s just the way it is. Greece will still be there next year.

Peridot1 · 28/07/2020 13:15

We cancelled ours too. In fact the hotel we were booked into hasn’t opened yet for the season. Other accommodation at the resort has opened but not where we usually stay. We decided it just wouldn’t have been the same. Not too bad for DH and I but we were taking DS and two of his friends (all 18/19) and it just wouldn’t have been the same holiday for them.

I’m also jealous knowing friends are currently away seemingly having a fab time but they are now having to isolate when they return. Half of me would love to book something but the sensible half takes over!

starrynight19 · 28/07/2020 13:19

I totally understand what your saying op. Booking a wet and windy and probably more expensive week in the U.K. is just not the same.
This weather doesn’t help at all Sad

Acrasia · 28/07/2020 13:22

We’ve just had to cancel our Honeymoon in Canada, which was already delayed because DH’s Mum died 10 days before our wedding last year. I’ve never been out of Europe before so I’m quite disappointed not to be having this adventure to look forward to. We’ll probably book something last minute and closer to home instead, not quite the same but I’m sure we’ll still have fun.

Sallycinnamum · 28/07/2020 13:26

We've cancelled our too OP. Well we don't have much choice as we were going to Majorca and our travel insurance is now invalid as only essential travel can now go ahead.

I wasn't so worried about the virus itself but getting stranded and the stress of quarantine on our return.

Its disappointing but it is what it is.

Wolfiefan · 28/07/2020 13:28

It is shit isn’t it!
I should be packing for Florida.
But none of us have been sick. We are safe and well. DH will take some leave and we will try and have some days out.
And if we are able to go next year? My goodness I’ll enjoy that holiday. Grin

ekidmxcl · 28/07/2020 13:31

Forget about it OP, I cancelled mine months ago (to covid red zone anyway as it turned out). It's best not to be going through airports/on planes at the moment.

Quartz2208 · 28/07/2020 13:37

It is quite easy to find cheap and lovely holidays in the UK if you want and our weather has recently been just as good if not better than parts of mainland Europe

Life is what you make of it

I8toys · 28/07/2020 13:37

Had numerous holidays cancelled - rearranged flights numerous times and moved quite a few to next year - we do city breaks. I am crossing my fingers that we can get out to Dubrovnik in 2 weeks but who the hell knows. I've been working since February so need a break away or I'd just keep on working. I do not want to go on holiday in this country and get ripped off by over inflated prices and shite weather.

userxx · 28/07/2020 13:39
