to use a potty in the park?

My 29 month old is a month into potty training. When he tells me 'weewee' I grab the potty from under the pram and let him use it. Is this ok?

I empty into a bush out of sight etc. Whole process takes about 20 seconds probably!

We’ve never owned a potty (2 boys). outside is standing up, inside its a toilet seat. we don’t use a buggy, so no space for a potty anyway

Where doesn't have public toilets? Apart from the middle of the countryside?
quite a few places actually, have you been outside recently? And shops and cafes that would usually have customers toilets have closed them too... and that's hardly middle of nowhere.

Let alone the fact that many places HAVE toilets but very long queues as they are - rightly - very strict on the amount of people using them.

Of course on MN a 3 year old who needs a pee is very happy to stand in a queue for 20 minutes... back in the real word, instead of torturing the poor child you get your potette out and you get on with your life.

Lots of places. And a town near me has a lovely one, complete with a sharps slots for the addicts, which they don't use half the time and leave the needles on the floor.

A pram is one of life's greatest conveniences! No prizes for struggling on without

@sleepingpup

Tbh even if everywhere had public loos ( which they don't - can't believe anyone thinks that ) If you've got a baby in a pram say and a toddler ( which I had ) the last thing I'd be doing would be wrestling us all into the grubby and very dubious council run toilets ( at speed )

Where are all these clean and available loos? That's a joke surely?

This!

I potty trained a toddler while I also had a 5 month old baby. I tried to put her in the playpen while I took toddler to the toilet - she screamed loads and was super scared that she was jut dumped and and we ran away.

We used a potty in the kitchen after that

LovelyIssues · 28/07/2020 17:38

I wouldn't bat an eyelid at it OP. Whatever makes your life easier

wildchild554 · 28/07/2020 17:43

Well theres no loos open, so either that or pee in a bush lol. And tbh if toilets anything like the one at our park probably alot more hygenic as theres usually poo up the wall and the toilet seats and never any soap, hot water or toilet roll so have to your own, I was always dishing out to people who weren't local lol. Maybe thats how the poo gets everywhere lol :P

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/07/2020 17:47

We got caught off guard today and my 4 year old had to wee in a playground behind a tree!!

wildchild554 · 28/07/2020 17:52

@OverTheRainbow88 we still get caught off guard sometimes with my 7 year old SEN on school run and have to find him an alley, so embaressing but not much I can do unfortunately, if I try make him wait he will just end up wetting himself. don't know if its anxiety thing or what cause he bed wets when he's in school but is ok when he's off school.

summ3rs · 28/07/2020 17:56

I see absolutely no issue in using the potty. I’ve always used a carry potty when out and just tuck it away somewhere discrete if my son needs to go. Much rather that than using some of the filthy public toilets (like the one we went into last week where all the toilets were blocked). 🤢
You’ll always find those people on here who aren’t interested in your opinion, just they’re their opinion coming out of your mouth. Usually the same ones who toilet trained their kids in a day and do everything else perfectly too. Sounds like you are doing a great job and just ignore some of the ‘smug’ comments X

summ3rs · 28/07/2020 17:58

*oops! Ignore the extra ‘they’re’ 🤣🙈

LolaLollypop · 28/07/2020 18:05

Haven't RTWT but expect it's the majority of judgy comments from mums who had their 6 month old toilet trained yada yada Hmm

I still bring the potty out sometimes for my almost 3 year old. Especially if we're going on a long car journey. It's much easier to pull over and use the potty rather than have her try and hold it in til we find a toilet.
If in the park, I find somewhere discreet to dispose of the contents. Nobody bats an eyelid when dogs wee all over the park so why is it a problem when a young child does?

Don't RTFT. Wouldn't want reality to get in the way of your preconceptions. Grin

Your 2 year old.... just say 2 year old 🙄

LolaLollypop · 28/07/2020 18:14

@Lweji 1st page - 5 comments about how they trained their kids without potties. I gave up after page 2 Wink

LadyGAgain · 28/07/2020 18:15

Given that most kids have had to wild wee since April this is fine!

Lweji · 28/07/2020 18:18

Have you ever heard of confirmation bias?

mumof2exhausted · 28/07/2020 18:18

Find it so weird how judgemental people are about a 2 year old using a potty, so weird! We didn’t train my boys until 3 as they weren’t ready as they’ve had many a wild wee as no way near any toilets. Use your potty it’s fine

BunsyGirl · 28/07/2020 18:18

For those saying use the public toilets, the toilets in my locals parks are absolutely foul. There is no way I would take a small child in there unless I absolutely had to. My boys pee behind a bush and will continue to do so until the Council listens to the complaints that are being made and cleans them up.

bossyrossy · 28/07/2020 18:31

Absolutely fine.

IwishIwasyoda · 28/07/2020 18:42

You are potty training too early but i expect loads of people will disagree with me. It's not a race. I potty trained at home in 5 days because DC were ready

Vole3 · 28/07/2020 18:44

YANBU.
Although once DS was a bit older I kept an old fabric softener bottle for PE as it had a wide neck and screw cap if there was nowhere to dispose.
DS was investigated for autism as when a toddler I couldn’t take him into toilets because he would complete freak out if the hand drier was activated due to sensory issues. I got a few snide looks from folks seeing us use the potty when a loo was nearby, but it was use that rather than him have an accident whilst fighting and being wrestled into the facilities

Onelovelyone · 28/07/2020 18:44

Perfectly reasonable to do that. He’s only little and newly potty trained when he needs to go, he needs to go!

zingally · 28/07/2020 18:54

It's fine.

Particularly in this era where a lot of public loos are still closed.

No one I know would blink at the sight of a toddler being caught short. It's not a big deal.
