Am I the only person who has hair that is just shit no matter what!

As per title I have the worst kind of hair, thick and frizzy which need daily straightening only to frizz and kink out all over the place despite using numerous products which claim to stop this happening.

I can't even put my hair up as it becomes limp and bits fall out the hair band.

I've tried long hair, short hair, layers etc and yet I still have shit hair!

I actually feel like shaving it off!

Anyone have any miracles to help?

Sniv I had dandruff some years ago Neutrogena T/Gel therapeutic shampoo (the dark brown one) worked wonders on the dandruff and also had very positive affect on my frizzy hair.

Highly recommend it.

ifeellikeanidiot · 27/07/2020 00:11

@Sniv

I also have shit hair.

I used to use Head&Shoulders but it made my hair greasy at the top, dry at the ends and frizzy all over. I then switched to the curly girl method, which did wonders for my hair... but also reminded me why I was using bloody Head&Shoulders in the first place - because my scalp falls off with out it.

I'm on a quest to find a curly-suitable shampoo that'll sort my scalp out too and I'm still looking. The last one I tried was Jason Dandruff Treatment with "FDA approved Sulfur", which left me reeking like I'd just escaped from Hell. The scent of rotten eggs followed me around for the whole of the next day causing my DP to physically recoil from me. It even contaminated my pillow. Awful stuff!

So any CG-ers who have found a miracle dandruff cure, please share.

I just use shampoo on my scalp and cowash the rest of my hair. I could never use shampoo all over as it would trash my hair but I could never not shampoo my scalp cause of the itchy flaking! I've done this for years. It also helps getting some lift at the roots and avoiding the flat greasy scalp CGers complain about
Kottontail · 27/07/2020 00:14

I have similar hair, sometimes it's easier to spray it with a sea salt spray when it's wet & let it dry naturally. It eliminates alot of frizz.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/07/2020 00:31

@knotweed

It's straight right now but I shall take a photo in the morning and show it before drying and straightening.

I she had it straightened in salons before but long term my hair broke off.

I always had thick hair until having children and now it's bushy when blow dried but limp and thin once straightened.

It's such a pest

Have you had your thyroid checked? My hair was exactly like yours for years, then I got tested got diagnosed with thyroid issues and my hair fixed itself after treatment.
Waveysnail · 27/07/2020 00:37

Silicone free shampoo and conditioner can help

notfunnynow · 27/07/2020 04:25

Very fine, shit hair here too. Hate it!

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 27/07/2020 04:42

I had the same problem and it turned out that my hair is wavy/curly and I just never realised because my mother had straight hair so always taught me to brush it when dry, straighten, blow dry etc. Basically all the stuff That totally ruins curly hair and turns it into a horrible frizzy mess.

I know you said you've tried curly girl but I really would revisit the curly hair thing. Curly girl isn't the only thing out there. Try using a wide tooth comb on wet, conditioner soaked hair, then rinse out the conditioner and tip your head upside down and crunch in some conditioning cream, then scrunch in some mousse and let it naturally dry. If at this point it has some curl to it you will know that you have curly hair. At least it will point you in the right direction.

Sniv · 27/07/2020 07:05

@pigsDOfly thanks! I'll check it out.

@ifeellikeanidiot with the dandruff shampoos, I do just use them on my scalp. Unfortunately, I just haven't found a CG-compatible one that actually does anything for my dandruff and doesn't smell like Satan's breath.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 27/07/2020 07:14

@antipodes1 I don't suppose you'd mind linking the one you bought on Amazon would you? I didn't realise you could get products to do this at home and am really interested, but had a quick look on Amazon and there are loads so I don't know where to start!

WinnieLowCo · 27/07/2020 07:14

I am a normal weight and full of energy but i like that idea, perversely. My hair is this shit cuza my thyroid. Still got solutions?
🤨

Alleycat1 · 27/07/2020 07:17

My friend has the same problem as you , OP. She washes first with a dandruff shampoo and a second wash with Pantene Smooth, then just conditions the ends. She swears by this.
I have the opposite problem, the proverbial "2 hairs and a nit'. Thin, fine, flyaway hair that always looks rubbish.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 27/07/2020 07:25

Yep! Was just coming on to say the same alleycat. I have dead straight, wispy fine pathetic hair that looks ok in a graduated bob if I blow-dry the hell out of it and use a LOT of product. Otherwise it looks like toddler hair.

I had the ends balyaged to try and make it more interesting and yesterday my MIL said "Is your hair that colour on purpose?" So that was nice. 😂

Thankfully all three of my kids have my husband's lovely thick wavy hair.

LJA16 · 27/07/2020 07:25

I have really thick bushy hair naturally. I put LOADS of serum in while damp or just before bed if dry- way more than u think u need. It looks greasy at first but after a few hours (once slept on) or once dry it’s much better condition. It’s like dry skin, u can put loads of moisturiser on and it’ll eventually sink in. I style it after that and don’t have straighteners temp set too high, just work on thinner sections at a time.
Hope that’s helpful!

Lollipity · 27/07/2020 07:33

@1984isnow yup me too. Won't hold a style, even with mounds of product and has the added bonus of being fine and now thinning too. I've always kept a pretty short style as it looks vaguely less awful. I'd love to have a glamorous style but have no idea where to start or even if it is physically possible, without resorting to wigs.

Alleycat1 · 27/07/2020 08:15

mynameisnotmichaelcaine When I was younger I used henna. It didn't change the colour then as already mahogany brown but thickened it up nicely. Can't use it on grey, though. Now thinning as well! At least thick hair can be thinned but we are cursed! 😂😂

ifeellikeanidiot · 27/07/2020 09:06

@shiv sorry - I should have been clearer. I dont worry about my shampoo being CG compatable, just use whatever works at the time.

carlablack · 27/07/2020 09:31

I have hair like yours OP. What I came to find is, the more you work against your natural texture the worse it'll get. May I suggest using hot rollers instead of flat iron? Just wrap large chunks of hair messily around 8-10 rollers (which takes about a minute to do) and wait 15-20 minutes to set (while you do your makeup, house work or chill) and voila!

It will still be frizzy in places but when you have big waves and curls here and there, that frizz makes it look so natural and effortless.

Darkestseasonofall · 02/10/2020 08:41

@knotweed what did you do in the end?
I've been searching posts for hair as awful as mine, any advice on how you finally tamed it?

knotweed · 02/10/2020 08:50

Hello.

Well I invested in a dyson hairdryer and changed to tigi bed head shampoo and conditioner and what a huge difference.

I also use the neals yard hair oil overnight.

My hair has far less frizz and no longer breaking.

I do take biotin tablets daily alongside liquid iron.

I don't know what is helping individually but doing all these has made my hair so good.

I have had numerous compliments and I NEVER had before!

OP posts:
winterisstillcoming · 02/10/2020 08:59

Consider asking for blunt cut layers next time

Darkestseasonofall · 02/10/2020 09:38

@knotweed I am very pleased for you, sounds like all the investment paid off!
@winterisstillcoming no matter how good the hairdresser layers on my mass of hair always end up shelf like and I hate them.

SuzieQQQ · 02/10/2020 10:07

Could you get it chemically straightened?

Xenia · 02/10/2020 10:08

Thin hair is worse surely? At least curly frizzy sticks out. Hair dressers (rudely) have always said to me - you have thin hair!

Darkestseasonofall · 02/10/2020 10:13

@suzieqqq I've had that done before, wasn't massively impressed but may well try again at another salon.
@xenia, at least with thin hair it doesn't take an hour to dry and style, I'd prefer to add volume to thin than reduce on thick. Perhaps none of us are ever happy with what we have Sad

CSIblonde · 02/10/2020 10:48

I have fine limp hair that frizzes if blow dried. I now don't use a hairdryer but put heated rollers in when it's almost dry. Life-changing volume & waves. My relative has thin dry bushy hair, her hairdresser said no layers as that will add to rhe bushy look,no hairdryer & lots of hot oil conditioner left on every time she washes. It does look a lot better. And it looks great up in a messy bun.
