Am I the only person who has hair that is just shit no matter what!

As per title I have the worst kind of hair, thick and frizzy which need daily straightening only to frizz and kink out all over the place despite using numerous products which claim to stop this happening.

I can't even put my hair up as it becomes limp and bits fall out the hair band.

I've tried long hair, short hair, layers etc and yet I still have shit hair!

I actually feel like shaving it off!

Anyone have any miracles to help?

I tried the curly girl method but fear I was doing it wrong. It might as well have been called the Frizzy Lunatic Method.

knotweed · 26/07/2020 08:32

First photo after a wash and dried with the hairdryer.

Other two after using hair straighteners.

Its okay whilst inside but if I go out it puffs up and kicks out!

I'm no expert, but I really do think your hair is likely to be curly or wavy. Look up the Curly Girl method and try it, experiment with different products. Not all curly or wavy hair is the same.

Meruem · 26/07/2020 09:05

My hair is very similar to yours OP so I am following this with interest! I have tried everything over the years and had no luck. Like you, I can make it look ok indoors but once I go outside it’s like I never bothered. I have seriously considered shaving it all off and getting a (well made) wig instead.

PaperMonster · 26/07/2020 09:06

@mbosnz

Nope. You're not the only one. I have fine, straight hair, and ever decreasing amounts of it. I hate the bloody stuff.
Me and you both @mbosnz

I think it's your brush. You need a soft bristle brush to pull the oil down the shaft and brush it gently as there seems to be a lot of breakage

Pippa12 · 26/07/2020 09:14

Try a keratin treatment, it doesn’t straighten your hair but takes out all the frizz and is humidity repellent so your hair shouldn’t frizz when you go outside. It’s costly, can be £60-120 depending where you live/salon etc but worth the money. Last 4-6 months with careful aftercare.

I’d use a decent shampoo, joico moisture recovery is miricle stuff (£21-£25 for shampoo and conditioner set off amazon)

Try using a hot brush rather than blast dry with hair dryer to smooth your hair as much as possible before straightening. The babyliss big hair hot airbrush is great.

Use a cream such as olaplex no. 5 before blow drying. It’s £20-£25 but you need a tiny bit and a bottle lasts me over a year.

Try not to wash your hair every day, it will exacerbate your frizz.

I straighten my hair but it’s incredibly curly and frizzy if it’s allowed to be. Every so often I embrace the curls and diffuse it with a product by Tigi called curls rock/curl amplifier something like that, it’s £11 and wonderful.

I’ve battled with my hair for years, but think I’ve found a good combination now. Good luck!

If your hair puffs up when you go outside it's probably because it's not absolutely bone dry before you leave the house. My hair is naturally curly and doesn't puff up when straightening.

I wash it and put a teeny, tiny blob of serum on it while it's still soaking wet. Never put products on dry, finished hair, only soaking wet hair. I usually leave it in a towel while I dress, put makeup up on etc. Then blast it with the hair dryer to take the rough off. If I can be arsed I will blow dry it straight with my hot air styler, but usually I can get away without having to. Then I straighten it. I have the straighteners at the highest possible heat. And do it section by section. Once it's straight, I blast it with the hair dryer again to make sure it is absolutely 100% straight, especially at the roots. Like I said before, never put product on finished hair, not even hair spray!

Usually since I've had kids and have less time to get ready in the morning, I will straighten it at night, then smooth it over in the morning and use some dry shampoo if it's a bit lank at the roots.

Fatted · 26/07/2020 09:25

I'd also say looking at your finished pictures, I don't think your straighteners are hot enough and/or your hair isn't quite straightened properly.

LunaNorth · 26/07/2020 09:27

I think it looks nice Smile

motherheroic · 26/07/2020 09:31

You're making it worse with the heat by adding damage on top.

crosser62 · 26/07/2020 09:36

You actually have my bastard hair op.
It’s shit day in day out.
If it’s not washed it throws a million tantrums in a million directions but with foul smelling grease at the scalp.
If I take my time, put a spot of serum in it to smooth & silk, it looks lank & greasy.
If I straighten it and there’s a sniff of damp in the air it morphs into the hair that painting guy has. Bob someone or other...
It’s in my face, in my eyes, itches if I put any kind of stuff on it to calm it, I look like a heroin addict if I tie it back.
I want to shave it off daily.

It’s marginally better if I let it air dry then straighten it.

Bloody horrendous.

Batqueen · 26/07/2020 09:37

Looks very similar to my hair. If I washed it and straightened it every day I would have no hair left by now though - you must be damaging it so much!
I’ve got washing down to every 5 days and use coconut oil serum on the ends to reduce frizz.

Arrivederla · 26/07/2020 09:44

Your hair looks very damaged op. Do you colour it?

Definitely stop with the straighteners for a while - the heat is ruining it. Do you use a protective spray before blow drying/straightening?

strawberrycreamplz · 26/07/2020 09:44

I'm afraid it's a case of throwing money at it when you have crap hair. In your shoes I would have a Brazilian blow dry/ straightening treatment and extensions put in.

I hate my hair. I have a lot of hair, it's very heavy but flyaway at the same time.
Its completely straight and curls drop straight out. It gets greasy very quickly.

Since having kids I lost a lot of hair, especially around the hairline which has receded a lot. The hair that's grown back along the hairline grows vertically and I have to clip it down every day. Hate it

xxKatie9806xx · 26/07/2020 10:17

Yep as I thought, same hair as me! When you colour it, do you just do the roots? You’re potentially over colouring.
Also that colour is quite dark on you, maybe going a mid brown will stop it looking as harsh. Do you do any conditioning treatments, regularly? Also do you use any oil for the ends?

xxKatie9806xx · 26/07/2020 10:22

Also, they are very unattractive but have you considered sleeping with your hair in a silk wrap? Your hair will look the same in the morning as night before, no kinks etc, so you may be less likely to wash and straighten again

gypsywater · 26/07/2020 10:22

Looks like it needs a good cut. Aside from that it looks nice to me?

Itsallthedramamick · 26/07/2020 10:31

Google the curly girl method. I think you'll find your frizz will turn into curls if looked after correctly. Could take several months of high effort but sounds like it could be worth it in the end! There's several groups on Facebook for curly girl as well that could offer proper advice (some of them are stupidly strict groups, find a nice one!)

ChrissyPlummer · 26/07/2020 10:35

I have similar hair OP. Just had it chopped into a pixie on Friday. Keratin treatments....the first one I had was a revelation....every subsequent one after that seemed less and less effective, even when I left months between them. Curly girl never worked for me either; tried drying ‘plopping’ with a cotton tee and was left with wringing wet hair that was just the same. Some of us don’t have secretly curly hair, mine has two distinct waves/kinks but that’s what they are, they never properly straighten but never properly look like nice beach waves or curls, unless I curl them using heat.

An undercut worked for me, as it takes a lot of the bulk out. I was a bit unsure about the pixie but at least it’s quick drying and relatively quick to style into something that looks reasonable. Mine has either got to be very long; the weight of my hair pulls it fairly straight and at least I can tie it up, or very short. I recently had a short, asymmetric bob with an undercut which was manageable but still needed straightening if I wanted it to look decent for more than a day.

piscean10 · 26/07/2020 10:40

I cant see the pics. I'm not sure what type of frizzy, but have you tried relaxing it? There are the not so harsh relaxers , but would probably look at doing it at the hairdresser

LittleHootie · 26/07/2020 10:40

Similar to mine. Things that have helped are:

  1. Silicon free and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner
  2. Using drops of coconut oil before drying
  3. Using a hot brush hairdryer like this which has a paddle brush rather than radial brush www.amazon.co.uk/Hair-Dryer-Brush-Hairdryers-Straightening/dp/B086V242R2/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?hvlocphy=1006736&hvnetw=g&keywords=hot+brush+dryer&hvadid=259066568525&qid=1595756286&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw0_T4BRBlEiwAwoEiATCiYFWzJRuCHxvx5MQCxby8Zh8TKL84FgtBpz7AkF-IOFo2AUc5zxoCQEYQAvD_BwE&hydadcr=7782_1755430&hvdev=m&hvqmt=e&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=kwd-337280311194&adgrpid=61652064948&hvrand=2543255579442071037&sr=8-7
  1. Wfh and therefore not styling hair every day. It has enjoyed the break!
HalloumiSalad · 26/07/2020 10:41

I wonder if you have a beautiful skull like Skin from Skunk Anansi. Perhaps if you took it all off you would get compliments galore for your gorgeous head. This is my personal fantasy as I have a similar issue and am following 😂😂😂 sadly I have a larger head and very pale skin so would look frightful if I took all my hair off. 😱
