Just that, really. I am desperate to get my flabby self to the gym, but they aren't open yet where I am.

I had a PT session at 7:30, it was amazing, no one leaving weights everywhere, no one leaving sweat all over equipment. Perfect!

Remember not to train as hard or lift as much, the golden rule after a short break is drop down to 75% of your usual weights etc.

I had my weigh in, I’ve only gained 3kg but my body fat has gone up by 6% 😂 the new dad bod stomach gave that away! I have rugby training soon, I won’t be the only one told off for getting chunky!

bibbitybobbitycats · 25/07/2020 11:01

Did you feel at all nervous about virus risk?

@bibbitybobbitycats

Did you feel at all nervous about virus risk?
No, a gym is less risky than say a supermarket/shop, not as many people, everything you touch is cleaned and no one comes within two metres of you.

Supermarket, each item touched by multiple people, dirty basket/trolley, large number of people, people standing very close to each other, dirty chip and pin machines at the till etc.

bibbitybobbitycats · 25/07/2020 11:15

That's very true @SimonJT. I really want to get back to the gym. I am not mega fit and never have been, but even just going three times a week for 45mins made a big difference.

Alloverthegrapevine · 25/07/2020 11:17

I've booked a spin class for later in the week. I am now wondering if that was wise, but looking forward to yoga.

Shoxfordian · 25/07/2020 11:18

I'm going to aquafit and to sit in the jacuzzi on Monday, can't wait

KatyChe · 25/07/2020 11:21

I’m going for the first time on Tuesday. I’ve booked my 90 minute slot for mid afternoon. Classes aren’t running yet, sauna and steam room closed. Gym and pool both open but you have to book to limit numbers. I’m looking forward to it - will just do a bit of cardio and then go for a swim.

Thingsdogetbetter · 25/07/2020 11:22

My gym's opened today, with classes starting Monday. I'm going to do week or two of half hour classes (about 1/3 of the numbers allowed) to get my fitness back before getting back to weights sessions with PT.

The number of people allowed in gym has been halved. And I've been keeping an eye on how many people are there today so far less than 1/3 full. Which really surprised me - I thought it would be full! .

Newuser123123 · 25/07/2020 11:24

8am swim here, it was great!

Norma27 · 25/07/2020 11:26

My gym isn't opening the sauna/ jacuzzi area yet. Are some others?
I'm looking forward to going back eventually but not just yet.

Whitney168 · 25/07/2020 11:30

8.45 reformer Pilates ... have missed it so much. Not sure which was more painful - the calf stretches or the wall of full length mirrors showing lockdown weight gain!

Fifthtimelucky · 25/07/2020 11:36

Very envious of those of you able to get back to the gym/pool.

Mine hasn't opened yet and is giving no indication of when it might.

AuntieMarys · 25/07/2020 11:38

My gym app tells me its currently 31% full.
I'm booked in for 2 spin classes and PT next week. Can't wait.

Grumpymum789 · 25/07/2020 11:46

I’m desperate to go, I’m booked in for 2 swims next week. I’ve missed it so much, I did x3 swims for 40 mins a week and never really felt it was ‘proper’ exercise, but It must have been doing something as I’ve really put weight on my legs & butt over lockdown without it.
How does anyone who has swam feel about risk of catching the virus ?

Lemonyfuckit · 25/07/2020 11:48

Mine is opening next week. I won't go until the following week as next week DP is visiting his elderly mum for the first time since before lockdown (in her 80s and lives a long way away) so we're minimising any interaction outside as much as possible for the two weeks prior to his visit but then I can't wait to get back in the gym! Ours is limiting bookings to 3 x 45 min sessions per week to allow availability for everyone given the reduced capacity and extra cleaning between sessions.

blueskys72 · 25/07/2020 12:07

I went at 9am - there was a one way system round most areas, lots of sprays and wipes to use before and after on each piece of equipment. Some equipment wasn't available because of proximities. All felt safe enough.

I haven't exercised during lockdown and tbh got a bit lightheaded at some points; I stayed for less time than normal because of that, but really wanted to stay the whole hour.

fluffi · 25/07/2020 13:17

This thread has made me realise just how much I miss the gym Sad I've been training at home, not ready to go back, gym looks busy according to the app this morning, its been at 50-66% capacity most of today.

Greenteandchives · 25/07/2020 13:20

I’m going tomorrow. In my gym you have to book your session in the gym on the app which you normally book classes on.
I’ll go in, do my stuff and come home to shower.
I’m looking forward to it. Doing stuff at home or on Zoom isn’t the same at all.

mightbealittlebitmad · 25/07/2020 13:45

I went this morning, it was very quiet, some stuff taped up and lots of sanitiser everywhere to clean stuff as well as a one way system. Had no worries about my safety but I was still there on the day they closed so it's never been something I've worried about.

I didn't stay long but it was nice to get back even just for a bit.

BowlerHatPowerHat · 25/07/2020 14:03

Mine aren't open just yet but these comments made me wonder how the two swimming pools I go to are going to organise themselves.
Access to/from the pools is walking past the showers - the corridor isn't particularly wide - one especially you would pass within 1 metre of the person coming the other way - and the toilets also feed into that corridor.

comingintomyown · 25/07/2020 14:20

I had to book too and show printed confirmation on arrival, it was practically empty but that’s maybe because people don’t realise they can go yet as the online info is poor.
Like others have said one way system, closed off machines lots of cleaning supplies. I am nervous about the virus and have yet to do anything since lockdown but I felt safe and my mood when I left an hour later was transformed.

ElectricMistofelees · 25/07/2020 14:28

Really good! So nice to be back and the thing about gyms is that everything is so easy to clean/wipe so I felt v comfortable there.

ListeningQuietly · 25/07/2020 14:32

I went for a swim. It was bliss.
Monday I've got a class booked. Cannot wait.

The staff were doing an amazing job of making it feel welcoming and safe at the same time.

ListeningQuietly · 25/07/2020 14:33

Bowlerhat
Walking past somebody in a corridor is very low risk.
I enjoyed seeing friends in the changing room and having my shower.
It was fine.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/07/2020 14:35

Went and did a spin class this morning. Fewer bikes in the studio and more spaced out. No sweat towels allowed (weird - why?!) Have been doing outdoor classes for the last month so have been back a while. Planning a swim tomorrow as the pool looked very quiet today.
