I was walking with my boyfriend and his dog today, and for the umpteenth time the dog went up to another dog to greet it, very friendly, then cocked his leg and pissed all over it.

My boyfriend did not react at all, didn't telll his dog off or apologise to the other owner. When I've expressed horror at this behaviour before, he's thrown his hands up and said 'well I can't stop him'.

This time, I lost my shit. Had a few choice words and said I won't be going on any more walks with them. I think we're lucky one of us hasn't been thunped, or had our photo put up on social media for shaming. Boyfriend thinks I'm massively overreacting and did the whole 'are you OK? Is there something else going on?' thing.

So I ask you:

  1. Do you think it's fucking feral for dogs to piss all over other dogs?
  1. If your dog did this would you scold it, attempt to retrain it, and ultimately keep it away from other dogs if necessary?
  1. Would you think it strange if someone got angry about this?

I have genuinely never seen a dog piss on another dog. If mine did he'd be wearing the cone of shame and writing apology letters.

triptrapdollydumpling · 25/07/2020 09:38

I would be horrified if this happened to my dog and would seriously judge the owner. He needs to control his dog.

Eslteacher06 · 25/07/2020 09:40

Ew?

HeckyPeck · 25/07/2020 09:40

🤢 my DDog would never do anything like that and of course tote boyfriend could do something about it.

Dogs can be trained to sniff out mines, detect diseases, guide people with sight and hearing loss etc etc.

The problem is your boyfriend is a lazy and irresponsible dog owner and I’d be looking for a new boyfriend ASAP.

MummytoCSJH · 25/07/2020 09:42

I've also never seen a dog pee on another dog. That's not normal at all and I'd be furious if I was the owner of the other dog.

LolaSmiles · 25/07/2020 09:44

My dogs would never do it and I've never seen another dog do that.

Separate to the dog, your boyfriend sounds lazy and manipulative if he started asking if there's 'something else going on' when you challenged his attitude and behaviour.

TheHighestSardine · 25/07/2020 09:45

As triptrap. This is a serious boyfriend problem. Can you really be with someone that stupid and uncaring?

GrumpyInTheMornin · 25/07/2020 09:45

Your bf needs to train his dog. If nothing else he can put the dog on a lead and stop him from doing it

I'd be furious if his dog pissed on my dog. I'd tell him too

GrumpyInTheMornin · 25/07/2020 09:46

Ask your bf how he'd feel if another dog pissed on his dog

TheSandgroper · 25/07/2020 09:46

Far out. I hope that your bf has some redeeming features because I would be out of there over that.

It’s downright horrible.

DianasLasso · 25/07/2020 09:48

Yes, minging.

I'd find myself a new boyfriend if I were you.

Have you heard of the waitress test (on a first date, watch how he treats waiting staff/bar staff - because that's how he'll treat you once he's got his feet under the table)? This is the equivalent, and it's an epic fail.

Chocolate1984 · 25/07/2020 09:48

When I was young our neighbour’s dog always urinated on our dog. Our male dog was a medium sized terrier and theirs was a flat coat retriever. They would sniff each other’s bum and then the larger dog would lift it’s leg and wee on my dogs head. It was disgusting. The owner did nothing and we ended up avoiding them.

Alb1 · 25/07/2020 09:49

I’ve never seen another dog do this. Is the dog on a lead while doing it? If not he clearly needs to keep the dog on a lead near other dogs. He needs to train his dog, seriously poor dog owner behaviour

Hoppinggreen · 25/07/2020 09:51

I have had 3 Male and 1 female dog and I have never seen them do this.
I would be horrified and very apologetic or if my dog was the recipient I would not be happy

BinkyandBunty · 25/07/2020 09:59

Phew, thank you, I was starting to second guess myself.

Boyfriend is otherwise lovely. That's the problem really, he doesn't like telling the dog off, reckons the dog has anxiety! A few times I've scolded the dog myself, for example when he jumped up on me, and boyfriend actually patted and reassured him! It's infuriating. If the dog's really naughty, he gets 'time out' in the garden, I kid you not.

My two boy dogs will literally take turns in pissing on each other in the garden or out on walks 😂
But they have never done it to any other dogs

BinkyandBunty · 25/07/2020 10:06

That's interesting @im5050, why do you think they do it? Is it a dominance thing?

As an aside, this dog marks a LOT. On everything. I've had plenty of male dogs and never seen anything like it.

LemonyFace · 25/07/2020 10:12

What did the other dog owner say/do? I'd be fuming.

FrostyGirl66 · 25/07/2020 10:15

Is he castrated?

ExclamationPerfume · 25/07/2020 10:18

That's disgusting. The dog should be on a lead under control.

CantThinkOfAName92 · 25/07/2020 10:19

Yes it's grim and minging!!
We had a neighbour's dog who would cock his leg and piss on everything including my dog and my son!!! Owner did nothing, no apology or calling dog back!!!
We hated them, we hated their dog!!
We were wary of it every time it came near and we had to tell it "no" a few times to stop it peeing on my son again (so it could be stopped/trained they were just too lazy to watch it when it was outside)

We were so glad when they moved!!!

LastTrainEast · 25/07/2020 10:26

I think castration might help in some of these situations. and maybe do something about the dogs as well.

BarkandCheese · 25/07/2020 10:27

I would be horrified if a dog pissed on my dog. Not only is it disgusting behaviour my dog is tiny, has a long coat so would be absolutely covered in urine and need a full bath to sort her out.

Your if your boyfriend can’t stop his dog pissing on other dogs it needs to be kept on a short lead by his side so it doesn’t have the opportunity to do it.

Itsarattrap · 25/07/2020 10:28

Late 50s, several dogs on, I've never seen this?

Comefromaway · 25/07/2020 10:29

Absolutely disgusting. We often walk our dog prior to us going out. Imagine having to bath your dog every morning because of some other idiot. (& our dog hates baths, they distress him so it’s not fair on him)
