To ask whether you would have and give your DC the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I’m very pro-vax, but the thought of such a new vaccine makes me feel a bit nervous. Then again, so does the thought of coronavirus.

I was reading an article in The Atlantic about the vaccine today, and it said 21% of Americans say they won’t have the vaccine and another 30% are undecided, and it made me think about it, because my initial reaction was, “idiots!!” and then I realised that made me hypocritical, as I am nervous myself.

What would you do, if you and your family could have the vaccine at Boots tomorrow?

I would, yes.

PaquitaVariation · 24/07/2020 22:30

Yes, I would.

bengalcat · 24/07/2020 22:30

Yes I would have it - NHS worker - and will pay for my DD and partner to have it

MissyPG · 24/07/2020 22:31

I would have the vaccine

Drbrowns · 24/07/2020 22:32

Yes I’d definitely take it.

shellysheridan · 24/07/2020 22:33

Yes definitely

tilder · 24/07/2020 22:35

Yes.

HairyFloppins · 24/07/2020 22:37

Yes definitely.

Goosefoot · 24/07/2020 22:38

I think probably, on balance, yes.

But I do generally prefer to wait with new drugs, to see if there are any unanticipated effects or problems, which is not uncommon. My dad is a GP and just for that reason tends to wait with prescribing new drugs unless there is really nothing comparable that has been around longer.

However, my guess is that in terms of rolling out a covid vaccine, my family might not be at the top of the list. They are likely to prioritise more vulnerable people first, whereas my family for the most part is fairly healthy without extra risk factors.

Lancrelady80 · 24/07/2020 22:43

Yes...but I am nervous about all the stages that normally are involved in developing a vaccine having been fast tracked so much.

Northernsoullover · 24/07/2020 22:45

I would. I've volunteered through the zoe app to be part of the trial if they need me. I'd let my children have it too.

Incrediblytired · 24/07/2020 22:45

I would have it

Cuddling57 · 24/07/2020 22:46

I've registered to possibly take part in the next stage of trials so I'm a YES!
From what I have read so far they aren't injecting you with any form of the virus and using mostly ingredients based on previous successful vaccines.

AdoreTheBeach · 24/07/2020 22:47

A one of my DC has had it (part of new job was to be tested for both the virus and the antibodies) as antibodies showed up on testing. So I think my other DC may have too. So I’d have her tested for antibodies. If present, then I’d not get the vaccine for her. If no antibodies, yes I’d get it for her.

I took the antibody test, no antibodies so I’ll be taking the vaccine when it comes out.

ButteryPuffin · 24/07/2020 22:52

Yes yes absolutely.

5foot5 · 24/07/2020 22:53

Like a shot

BillywilliamV · 24/07/2020 22:55

Of course..

supadoopa · 24/07/2020 22:56

Really shocked at these answers.

Absolutely no chance!

My children have had and will have all their vaccinations as per the current schedule but no they will not be getting a rushed through, unproven vaccine any time soon for an illness that they have very little chance of catching or being affected by in any way.

supadoopa · 24/07/2020 22:57

And not will I.

Freddiefox · 24/07/2020 22:57

I would, my dc’s didn’t have the flu vaccine at school (have had all the others) and I feel like such a twat now.

Freddiefox · 24/07/2020 22:59

And I will also be trying to pay for the one who missed our on the bcg to get it

elliejjtiny · 24/07/2020 23:01

Yes absolutely

PepperMooMoo · 24/07/2020 23:02

Not. A. Chance,

No one had even heard of coronavirus this time last year, there is no way I would accept a rushed through vaccine, that hasn't adhered to normal clinical trial timelines. Not a chance.

Juststopswimming · 24/07/2020 23:05

Yes. With bells on
