Crisps and dips - AIBU to think you dip then eat whole crisp, not take a bite and then dip again with same crisp?

As above - AIBU to think etiquette is or should be to take a crisp, dip into dip and then eat the whole crisp, rather than taking a bite of crisp and then dipping the same crisp in shared dip?

(Then obviously you take a new crisp for next dip etc)

Double-dipping is gross.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 24/07/2020 15:14

Agree. Double Dipping is revolting.

Waveysnail · 24/07/2020 15:14

Only double dip with husband and kids. Anything else is gross

Justmuddlingalong · 24/07/2020 15:14

🤮 Double dipping any food is illegal. Fact.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/07/2020 15:14

Communal dips... YANBU.

Taking a spoonful of dip on your plate and using that multiple times is acceptable.

TheSpottedZebra · 24/07/2020 15:15

It was grim pre-covid. It's now an abomination.

Purpleartichoke · 24/07/2020 15:16

Communal double dipping is gross.

I prefer being able to put some dip on an individual plate and dip to my hearts content x.

Sisterwives · 24/07/2020 15:16

No double dipping unless it's with someone you regularly share saliva with anyway!

Chanjer · 24/07/2020 15:17

Double dipping okay in your bubble

Double dipping not okay at any other time

Xiaoxiong · 24/07/2020 15:17

Double dip is swapping spit. So if you are swapping spit with them anyway, then fine. Otherwise - gross!

WiddlinDiddlin · 24/07/2020 15:17

Yep, gross, revolting, hanging offence..

At home, ONLY if its something you can snap off outside your mouth.. for example a bread stick, you can often put the dipped bit in your gob and snap it so that the new 'end' hasn't been in your mouth.. and dip that.. thats ok, AT HOME ONLY.

WitchyMoo · 24/07/2020 15:18

Put dips on a plate and dip that way , or spoon it on from a plate
Double dipping is grim

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 24/07/2020 15:28

Yep, you take a crisp, scoop a load of dip onto it, whole thing goes in mouth, then repeat with a new crisp.
Most crisps aren't big enough to use as a dip twice anyway are they? Unless the guilty party is licking the dip off and redipping, in that case they should just go straight to jail.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/07/2020 15:30

Show the offender if they don't believe you.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 24/07/2020 15:30

I shared a bread starter with DH today and we both double dipped.

doskant · 24/07/2020 15:31

That's like putting your whole mouth in the dip! Look, when you take a chip, just take one dip and END IT!

Do. Not. Double. Dip.

You'd think so but actually loads of commonly dipped chips are big enough for this, like in the video link a poster linked to above!

Doritos and kettle chips for instance. Although I usually eat them all in one dip or not so who knows

Double-dip only with somebody that you would happily snog. Seeing as [insert hunky male here] is not available, that means double-dipping only when sharing with DH Grin

😂 offender is a family member and would be mortified to think she was making a faux pas so I don't think I'd bring it up but wondered if it was a thing, clearly is

Had a socially distanced lunch where we brought our own plates and cutlery and some foods each, I thought dips were an unusual choice for that sort of thing but definitely didn't partake in any dipping after witnessing the double dipping which I think rather defeats the object of social distancing!

The other food was very easy to distribute safely, think individual packets etc. Not that I'm particularly worried at all, just made me giggle a bit as the own plates and distancing was their idea

OP posts:
CrispEtiquette · 24/07/2020 15:42

That sort of thing as in a Covid-time distanced lunch, dips are quite normal for a lunch with friends or family any other time (but I think I'll be avoiding the dips there next time!)

AliceinBunnyland · 24/07/2020 15:42

Interesting many of these posts are saying no double dipping as I know more people who would double dip than who don't!

I don't do it but most of my friends would.

Iwantacookie · 24/07/2020 15:44

Strangers no. Friends and family yes.
