Crisps and dips - AIBU to think you dip then eat whole crisp, not take a bite and then dip again with same crisp?

As above - AIBU to think etiquette is or should be to take a crisp, dip into dip and then eat the whole crisp, rather than taking a bite of crisp and then dipping the same crisp in shared dip?

Yep, gross, revolting, hanging offence..

Well, it's been nice knowing all you MNers.

Don't forget to lay me beneath the Green Green Grass of Home (in God's own country) please Grin

unlikelytobe · 24/07/2020 16:57

See.... a bread stick allows at least two dips and more if you break it up into sections!

BrassyLocks · 24/07/2020 16:59

Dipping from your own plate doesn't work, though. I've tried chasing chutney around a plate with a thin wedge of popadom at Indian restaurants and it's super annoying. I might seek out some tiny individual dip bowls, or reuse those office milk sachets.

SerenityNowwwww · 24/07/2020 16:59

Hmmm. Also if the tippy tip is dipped and the end genteelly snapped off >4 inches from the redipped end (pref the other end of the stick). Only if the dipper doesn’t have a cold/cold sore/bugs... and the long sticks only.

amusedbush · 24/07/2020 17:03

Double dipping is gross. See also people who taste something as they're cooking and then put the same spoon back in to stir.

DH and I had this discussion a few nights ago. He said, "surely it's different it if was me or your mum". I said as much I may enjoy their company, I don't want either of them to stir slavers into my dinner.

Oakmaiden · 24/07/2020 17:04

I just don't share.

Shodan · 24/07/2020 17:12

No double dipping here, ever.

Neither do I use the same spoon more than once to test a sauce/gravy.

Mot recent XH tried to do that once when I was cooking and got his hand smacked for it Blush.

Fight bites (any wound breaking the skin of the assailant that touched the teeth of the victim) cause some of the most horrific infections I have ever seen. After seeing that particular episode of forensic files its a firm no from me Grin

Kaiserin · 24/07/2020 17:19

That's why I don't share dips Grin
(Triple dipping all the way!)

MildlyFoxed · 24/07/2020 17:21

I share saliva with only the most select few.

Teacher12345 · 24/07/2020 17:24

I personally would not shove a whole crisp in my mouth because the only ones I dip are pringles or tortillas. I never dip the bit that goes in my mouth though. I would bit it in half and then turn it round and dip the other side in so no saliva.

Esspee · 24/07/2020 17:29

@Hollyhead. The other end which hasn’t been in your mouth has been in your fingers. How is that any better?

It’s simple NO DOUBLE DIPPING-EVER!

Damn straight! If you get the right judge you may just walk away with all assets and property, too. It would only be justice for his culinary crime!

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 24/07/2020 17:42

A dip each, frankly, is the greedy bastards way forward.

Shizzlestix · 24/07/2020 18:00

Completely disgusting. I think I’d actually be sick were someone to do this. Even the dh and I don’t do this.

Coldilox · 24/07/2020 18:02

I don’t share my dip

okiedokieme · 24/07/2020 18:06

It's fine with your dp, otherwise no

Worriedmutt · 24/07/2020 18:08

They did tests similar to the American ones for a BBC science programme - bacteria in dips increased a lot due to double dipping. The amount varied according to the dip - hummus was the safest.

MsEllany · 24/07/2020 18:12

I didn’t know double dipping was a think till I was 21 Blush. Probably because we only had breadsticks and similar at home.

Fine at home not so much out though. If you’d ‘be sick’ doing this with your own husband then see a therapist.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/07/2020 18:18

Do. Not. Double. Dip.

"Never go ass to mouth!"

Hollyhead · 24/07/2020 18:19

@Esspee depends how you hold it - it’s only something I’d do with very close people who I know are ok with it like my sister/mum - I wouldn’t do if I had doubts!

AliceinBunnyland · 24/07/2020 22:39

A dip each, frankly, is the greedy bastards way forward

And sharing a dip and saliva is the dirty bastards way forward

AliceinBunnyland · 24/07/2020 22:40

Spit in food is Not On.

This.

Mustbetimeforachange · 24/07/2020 22:46

Double dipping in gross. However, Covid is passed by droplets being inhaled, so not likely to be passed on through food (problem with buffets is the utensils bring handled by multiple people). I still don't want someone else's saliva in my food though.
