Just curious.
I don't tend to at all.
Probably once or twice following someone else referencing a previous thread.
I name change quite often.

OP posts:
Monkeydog123 · 22/07/2020 09:38

I do very occasionally but not often.

MouthBreathingRage · 22/07/2020 09:40

Anytime I think someone is making stuff up or trolling. So quite often.

Mumdiva99 · 22/07/2020 09:41

Only of another posters says - "i can see by your previous threads.....blah blah blah" - and the previous threads would be shocking or funny.

LemonTT · 22/07/2020 09:42

When I recognise their name and think they are not being honest about things. I dislike posters who start with one version and then repost different versions that make them more sympathetic and provide incomplete pictures.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/07/2020 09:42

Never, I'm not that invested, nor am I the mumsnet police. I don't name change myself and don't post anything on a public forum I'll later regret.

Purplepie78 · 22/07/2020 09:42

Never, don’t know how to!

SerenDippitty · 22/07/2020 09:43

Never done it.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/07/2020 09:44

I do sometimes when the OP is being ridiculous because there will often be other ridiculous posts from them and I like a good giggle😁

Oldraver · 22/07/2020 09:44

@Mumdiva99

The same, sometimes it helps to have a background especially if its one of those prolific posters who regurtitate the same story with little bits added on.

There are also posters who talk like you should remember previous threads

I mostly use search for myself as it's easier than using 'threads I'm on'

NK5fd36457X11218d61631 · 22/07/2020 09:51

I get the impression some people don't agree with this practice though.
I wouldn't consider it troll hunting (a term I've only recently discovered). But I gather some people do.

OP posts:
Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/07/2020 09:52

I don't, I just can't be bothered really.

Chungus · 22/07/2020 09:53

I'm way too lazy.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 22/07/2020 09:53

Only if someone references a poster's previous thread (or the poster does that themselves) without linking to it. I advanced search them to find the thread. Otherwise I couldn't be bothered.

AuntieStella · 22/07/2020 09:56

I do occasionally, if there is something about a post that makes me think I've seen something similar before.

But I would only bring up what I found on the new thread if it was relevant/really important/gamechanger to the situation as described.

FourPlasticRings · 22/07/2020 09:57

On occasion, not as standard.

GreyGardens88 · 22/07/2020 09:57

Not done it once

dayslikethese1 · 22/07/2020 09:59

Sometimes I do when I really like someone's posts and have noticed a few of theirs I agree with. Sometimes I see people that I think I'd get on with in real life based on their humour or politics or whatever. Which I realise makes me sound very sad Grin

Commentutappelles · 22/07/2020 10:02

I don't although FIVE threads I was on yesterday have been taken down, so starting to think I should.

ChicCroissant · 22/07/2020 10:10

Yes, I do this sometimes. Especially for froth topics or the current series of threads with their different 'proposals' for the school year or working hours Hmm Surprising how many of them are written by first time posters.

NK5fd36457X11218d61631 · 22/07/2020 10:25

I think perhaps I've been a bit naive. I assumed that people wouldn't be so sad as to make up posts. (I'm not a member of any other forum like MN, so no real experience).
I take most posts at face value. So don't feel the need. Perhaps I need to be more of a sceptic.

OP posts:
Waveysnail · 22/07/2020 10:26

Never. I have a life

SecondStarFromTheRight · 22/07/2020 10:34

I've done it maybe 3 or 4 times. It's never been to verify a person's story or background though. I'm not even sure why I did it. Just curiosity I suppose. I'm not sure the feature needs to exist, anything anyone posts could be a lie and people can name change at any time.

OVienna · 22/07/2020 11:29

I never used to. But I have a little bit more as I have become curious about PRs, journalists and other advisors policing certain types of threads on here. I have been reassured in most cases that there are other posts, in other topics. I wouldn't take it further than checking that.

Ellisandra · 22/07/2020 11:35

I do it - not often, but more than others who have posted so far, by the sounds of it.
Sometimes it’s because I think I’m reading made up tripe!

But more often, it’s because I want to reply and I think more info might make a difference. For example, this week had a problem with a selfish or not boyfriend, but didn’t say how long they’d been together. They actually did add that in a later comment, but not when I was initially going to post. The boyfriend’s action had been the kind of thing that I’d say, “fuck that shit” on a first date, but after a several year relationship, I’d be suggested the OP looked at the wider picture. So sometimes I’ll look for that reason, to get more info because o think I can make a more helpful contribution. Only when I have a lot of spare time though!

ElizabethMainwaring · 22/07/2020 11:35

@Commentutappelles

I don't although FIVE threads I was on yesterday have been taken down, so starting to think I should.
I troll hunt in the small hours due to being an insomniac and chronic pain. Every I have suspected as being a troll has been. There is a lot of it about recently, one returning troll in particular. I only reverse search in those circumstances.
