Hoovering at 9pm

House share. House mates hoovering at 9pm. That’s late right?

I’m sick of it tbh.

I don’t think it’s particularly late, but if you do then you should probably talk to your housemates rather than whinge on here.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 20/07/2020 21:06

Wouldn’t bother me to be honest. It’s a relatively quick activity at a moderate noise level.
If you find it really intrusive could you chat to your housemate and ask them if they could do it earlier?

Yetiyoga · 20/07/2020 21:18

I don't think it is late really?! Late would be when people are in bed, most adults aren't in bed by at that time.

OldEvilOwl · 20/07/2020 21:19

Are you in bed at 9? Doesn't seem late to me

EndoplasmicReticulum · 20/07/2020 21:21

My neighbours usually wait until midnight (semi detached). 9pm isn't late.

PumpkinP · 20/07/2020 21:22

Late? Confused

WorraLiberty · 20/07/2020 21:24

Did it wake you up?

pregnancydiet · 20/07/2020 21:24

Unless they know you have to be up at 5am for a shift in icu or something then I don't think they are being unreasonable

Jkrowling92 · 20/07/2020 21:25

Lol okay

I guess it’s the case when you’ve fallen out, everything they do irritates you. Growing up that level of noise would be reserved for earlier in the day.

It pisses me off when my ndn does it at that time but that because she seems to feel the need to ram every skirting board in the house multiple times (she's also fond of doing it at 5:30/6am too). If was just a quick vacuum through it wouldn't bother me.

Jkrowling92 · 20/07/2020 21:26

You’re a saint tbh

OP posts:
Jkrowling92 · 20/07/2020 21:27

Already awake but I like to wind down that time. Usually asleep by 10:30pm and awake at 6am.

OP posts:
Jkrowling92 · 20/07/2020 21:27

Where would the fun in that be though?

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 20/07/2020 21:28

It’s not late and doesn’t go on for long. I could live with it - is it every day though? That might be annoying. My neighbour had her hairdryer going at 1am a couple of weeks back - now that was anti-social!

Powerbunting · 20/07/2020 21:30

It isn't what I'd choose to do at this time of night.

But... I've just smashed a tumbler so had to.

Didn't wake the three year old. So I'm celebrating a job well done.

What bothers you exactly about this time of night and, what must surely be a short lived thing. Their room can't be that big

Morsmordre · 20/07/2020 21:32

At least their hovering and keeping the house clean instead of leaving a messy house 😉

EachandEveryone · 20/07/2020 21:32

When do you do the hoovering?

Its not late. Im the only one that does in my place and it might be at 9 when i get home from work. It causes zero problems.

Jkrowling92 · 20/07/2020 21:36

All good points. It bothers me because I struggle to sleep and 9pm onwards is wind down time so I like the quiet. It’s a house-share though and you are right it is very short lived.

I have never heard my ndn, who I've lived next to for years, vacuum. I therefore vacuum at whatever time I like as I assume they can't hear mine either. I certainly don't think 9 p.m. is too late to do it.

They sit in the house all day. They’ve finished their course and are on holiday.

That's not late !

DomesticGodmess · 20/07/2020 21:40

@NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite maybe your neighbour is like me and hardly ever hoovers!
OP better in the evening than early in the morning, it's a horrible noise to wake up to!

TheCanyon · 20/07/2020 21:47

I'd never Hoover at that time unless I'd broke yet another wine glass, which I'm quite good at and I quite like the people I live with.

My neighbour never hoovers before 8am or after 8pm, and we do the same.

RB68 · 20/07/2020 22:09

my view is 8 to 8 as well - unless you are detached and only residents or know for sure any attached neighbour is out.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/07/2020 22:14

It would only bother me if I was trying to sleep. I’m an awful sleeper but don’t think the fairly inoffensive noise of a hoover would prevent me from winding down.
I think this is a ‘bitch eating crackers’ scenario.
