House share. House mates hoovering at 9pm. That’s late right?

I’m sick of it tbh.

When do you do it?

randolph78 · 21/07/2020 00:23

No, it's not too late for hoovering.

9pm onwards may well be wind down time - but them hoovering doesn't stop you from winding down, they aren't asking you to do it!

You are allowing it to wind you up. It isn't actually stopping you from winding down, it is just a reminder that you don't live alone.

It would be different if you were in bed and it woke you because you work shifts, or are unwell etc. Just put on some music or reframe it as background white noise. Lots of apps have that fan whirring noise as a relaxing sound precisely to help people wind down!

So you live with students and expect quiet time from 9pm....

Yabu, it's hardly like they were hoovering at midnight for an hour, it was 9pm and I'm sure it was only for a short burst of time. Equally with the nights being so light and people being out and about more they may not have realised how late it was, I am frequently surprised to find that its 8pm when I could have sworn it was only 5/6pm.

House shares are give and take and unless they do this daily then it's a really petty thing to be so bothered about.

why don't you get together and lay down ground-rules? no vaccing after 8pm and bevor 8am etc etc

Sometimes i can be at home all day and get a burst of energy late on and want to do something that i couldn't be arsed doing all day. We're all different.
