To be craving beer whilst pregnant...?!

Did anyone else have this?

I very, very rarely drink beer, I've always preferred wine but right now at 11 weeks pregnant all I want is an ice cold bottle of beer. I can't stop thinking about it!! I'm considering going and buying the alcohol free stuff to see if that will help.

Becks Blu is pretty good. Only about 14 calories as well. When my heartburn wasn’t too bad I enjoyed it.

LoungeLizardLhama · 19/07/2020 20:35

I totally craved larger with my second baby despite not really liking it. I used to just have the odd sip of DHs and swill it round and round my mouth to get a good taste of it ☺️

AllTheCherryPie · 19/07/2020 20:52

I had to have a shandy the other night and oh god it tasted so good! Can't keep doing that though. Thanks for the tip re the Becks Blu I'll give that a whirl.

I like the fake Erdinger, though it is super fizzy!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 19/07/2020 21:28

Ha I had this! Alcohol free Pauliner and Erdinger are both good.

Bmidreams · 19/07/2020 21:28

Peroni is nice too.

Pinktornado · 19/07/2020 21:29

I was the exact opposite during pregnancy! Usually a beer and coffee lover but during pregnancy the smell of them made me want to throw up! Still haven’t quite got my taste for them back yet Sad Agree that there are lots of good non alcoholic ones out there now. I like Heineken 0 and Freedam.

LockdownLump · 19/07/2020 21:30

Nanny state by brew dog is absolutely amazing!!! Really feels like you're having a proper beer.

Once you've had one, you'll never turn back.

EasterIssland · 19/07/2020 21:30

Nanny state from brew dog or their punk af

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2020 21:31

I thought becks blue was horrible, really chemical tasting, but Heineken 0.0% was pretty nice.

PheasantPlucker1 · 19/07/2020 21:31

I craved sambuca Confused

I dont even like the stuff but used to sit sniffing the bottle!

user1493413286 · 19/07/2020 21:32

I went through a stage while pregnant of loving non alcoholic beer despite never really drinking it and not drinking it since then, I have no idea why.

Devlocopop · 19/07/2020 21:32

I drink Becks Blu Dh drinks Heineken 0.0 both are alcohol free and neither of us is pregnant Grin

It feels lovely to drink and not feel any hangover. We always have them in the fridge.

Treat yourself.

LucyAutumn · 19/07/2020 21:33

I had this with my first, becks blu satisfied the craving!

elliejjtiny · 19/07/2020 21:33

I craved champagne during my pregnancy with ds2.

guineapig1 · 19/07/2020 21:33

Yy to Brewdog’s Nanny State
Cobra Zero is also quite nice

whiteblankpage · 19/07/2020 21:35

My last pregnancy all I craved was an ice-cold beer, after never really drinking them at all or enjoying them previously ... presumed it would pass after I delivered but it didn’t and it’s frequently my drink of choice 5 years later.
Interestingly, in that pregnancy I totally went off red meat and still can’t stomach it.

StuckInPollyannaMode · 19/07/2020 21:57

My craving was red wine- sniffed a lot of DH’s!

BettyButtercup · 19/07/2020 22:01

Alcohol free San Miguel was my pregnancy (and post pregnancy) tipple. My husband refers to them as 'Sad Miguels'!

MitziK · 19/07/2020 22:05

Go for it. Beck's blue is really, really close to standard Beck's in taste if it's properly chilled.

Maybe it's the yeasty taste/B vitamins you're craving? Perhaps some Marmite on sourdough toast would help?

ttigerlilly · 19/07/2020 22:07

Becks Blue is awesome! Such a great alternative

MotherWol · 19/07/2020 22:10

Alcohol free beer has got a lot better in the last couple of years. Big Drop, Brewdog, Mikkeller and Lucky Saint all do really nice ones, most of the bigger supermarkets carry a good variety these days. Try Dry Drinker or Beers of Europe, it’s fairly easy to find now.

GoshHashana · 19/07/2020 22:18

I've craved Guinness throughout this pregnancy. Planning to have a pint as soon as DD is born!

Northernsoullover · 19/07/2020 22:21

I don't drink but sometimes crave beer. Bavaria is lovely as is Heineken 0.0. Alcohol free beer has come a long way since that dreadful Kaliber (you are probably too young to remember that shite).

BestZebbie · 19/07/2020 22:58

I craved lager and drank Becks Blue - it turned out that actually I was also extremely keen on anything based on barley (which has a similar malty taste), so I had an awful lot of barley risotto too.
