To be craving beer whilst pregnant...?!

Did anyone else have this?

I very, very rarely drink beer, I've always preferred wine but right now at 11 weeks pregnant all I want is an ice cold bottle of beer. I can't stop thinking about it!! I'm considering going and buying the alcohol free stuff to see if that will help.

Becks blue is awful. I liked proabition bud

workhomesleeprepeat · 19/07/2020 23:15

@GoshHashana I'm Irish and when my mum was pregnant with me many moons ago, her doctor told her to have the occasional half pint of Guinness because its apparently full of folic acid! Though tbh your approach sounds better Grin

Came on this thread to say there are loads of nice non/v low alcohol beers on the market now, but see that PP have done so. Enjoy OP!

Erdinger

babysharktooth · 19/07/2020 23:20

Rioja wine was all I could think about with my first for two weeks at around the 12 week mark. Literally dreamed of the taste 🙈

Saladd0dger · 19/07/2020 23:22

I craved lager with one of mine. Was about 6 months pregnant on Boxing Day so poured a fosters shandy. 1 bloody sip and it put me off and I gave it to dh lol

GracieLane · 19/07/2020 23:35

Yes! Beer and red wine! I used to buy some, have a sniff and tip it away! Wasteful I know, but even the smell was deeply satisfying and I had hyperemesis so could hardly eat or drink anything. I just used to stand in my kitchen sniffing it! With one of my other pregnancies I became obsessed with the smell of bleach and used to regularly bleach spray the sides and bleach the toilet at 2am as that's when the craving for the smell would wake me! With the windows open, obviously. I also started sterilising the baby bottles And breast pump in Milton regularly WAY before my due date, as I loved the smell, so much so that most of the numbers had worn off! Pregnancy cravings are so weird! I also craved pate, which I never eat, and sushi, which I wasn't allowed

GracieLane · 19/07/2020 23:36

I don't even drink beer or wine. I still haven't had a beer or glass of wine, when I was pregnant it was on my mind a lot!

Tillygetsit · 20/07/2020 00:09

I hated Becks Blu. Smelt like weed to me and weed makes me sick.

JovialNickname · 20/07/2020 00:24

Alcohol free beer is really nice these days. Admittedly I was never massively into beer (wine is my first love!) but Beck's blue and Heineken 0 taste exactly the same as the real stuff to me. The Heineken ones come in a big bottle which feels quite indulgent to me too. I actually find that I don't really notice that it's 0%, guess that shows how much the ritual of drinking plays a part!! You sort of forget there's no alcohol - you want a beer and you're having a beer, tis all good Smile

Mammyloveswine · 20/07/2020 09:03

I loved a becks blue when pregnant! Like you I'm normally a wine girl but the beer taste was lovely!

thenightsky · 20/07/2020 09:31

I craved cider, so allowed myself one glass of the weakest I could find every weekend.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/07/2020 11:14

27 years ago i found sainsburys alcohol free cider kept away my cravings, dont know if they still do it but yes pp brought back a blast from the past with kaliber 🍺

Itsarattrap · 20/07/2020 11:16

When my mum was expecting me in the early 60s she was advised Guiness by midwife to build up her iron levels!

Please: do not try this !

Alconleigh · 20/07/2020 12:15

Erdinger is fantastic. As are the Brew Dog offerings. Free Dam isn't bad either. I also get quite a few alcohol free beers from a local brewery, West Berkshire Brewery. Cracking pilsner.

Loveinatimeofcovid · 20/07/2020 12:16

Maybe you need some more B vitamins?

FlashesOfRage · 20/07/2020 12:23

This thread is giving me life 😂😂

I’m virtually T total, I might drink one glass of champagne or gin if at an event (so once or twice per year)

And my craving throughout pregnancy has been alcohol loll!

When I as at my worst with nausea I’d get DH to pour me a tiny glass of whatever wine he was drinking so I could just sniff it. It would make me feel better straight away!
I’ve even been loving the smell of Newcastle Brown 😂

My favourite alcohol free beer is Budweiser’s Prohibition Brew 👍 (although they’ve just changed it to “Bud zero” with half the calories and I haven’t tasted that)

Tunnocks34 · 20/07/2020 12:28

I did similar! No clue why as I don’t really drunk but I did have a becks blu and it was lovely! Couldn’t tell it wasn’t normal beer (well, my unrefined palette couldn’t)

20viona · 20/07/2020 12:29

Becks blue ice cold but poured in a glass because the bottle smells like weed I find 🤣

Wilburgh · 20/07/2020 12:53

Oh, I’m 34 weeks and would bloody love a lager.

I won’t though, not even a sip because what’s the point if i can’t get tipsy. And alcohol free drinks can get to fuck.

(I’m one of those terrible people who MN hate because
I drink to get pissed and have a laugh and therefore, must be an alcoholic).
