Should I go to this party?

I haven’t seen my close friends since the start of lockdown. They’ve just done their garden up and got a massive hot tub so have invited a fair few people from different households along with their children for drinks tonight. I’m fed up of lockdown now and a party with friends would really boost my morale but DH says it’ll be like a ‘Covid spa’ in the hot tub. The kids would love to play with their friends too. Surely the hot water kills any germs?

YABU - DH is right, silly idea
YANBU - Go and enjoy yourself

Whatever else, the hot water will NOT kill Covid.

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2020 16:22

I would go but probably wouldn't get in the hot tub.

cosmo30 · 19/07/2020 16:22

Unless you wana sit in 60 degrees+ water then I don't think the hot tub would kill any germs

Loveinatimeofcovid · 19/07/2020 16:23

I’m not sure you understand how killing germs with heat works.

Loveinatimeofcovid · 19/07/2020 16:23

Also YABU did being friends with people who have a hot tub!

katy1213 · 19/07/2020 16:24

I might go to the party - but I'd stay out of the germ soup in the tub. Which sounds vile, COVID or not!

Aquamarine1029 · 19/07/2020 16:24

Hot tubs are disgusting, covid or not.

Onestepup · 19/07/2020 16:24

YABU. It sounds like a germ farm.

SunbathingDragon · 19/07/2020 16:25

I agree with your DH about the covid spa comment but it’s fine to go and enjoy a socially distanced evening staying away from the hot tub.

rebecca102 · 19/07/2020 16:27

The hot water won't kill it but just being there you could potentially catch it. When lockdown eased where I am I went to a few parties with family. Never got sick. It's the risk you take I guess. I don't use hot tubs cause I just think their a breeding ground for all sorts of diseases.

Dozer · 19/07/2020 16:27

Wouldn’t fancy it even in normal times: don’t want to wear swimwear when socialising, also dislike boozy evenings with DC present. In normal times if liked the hosts would probably pay a sitter.

MrsAJ27 · 19/07/2020 16:27

Go to the party and like others have said don't go near the hot tub yuk!

Dozer · 19/07/2020 16:30

How many households is a “fair few”? Assume the guests will be both inside and out.

NC4Now · 19/07/2020 16:33

Is the hot tub chlorinated? If it is, I imagine you just need to be careful about social distancing and touching things, take your own drinks and keep hold of your glass.
Mind you, a fair few and their kids sounds like quite a lot. I’d do it if there were half a dozen in total.

I don’t know anyone who submerges themselves in hot tubs. Usually they sit close together and breath/sneeze/cough etc in the same vicinity others breathe in.
ChavvySexPond · 19/07/2020 16:41

How do you social distance in a hot tub?

Will the party be in compliance with the government advice designed to keep people safe? Or not?

The "hot" water definitely won't do anything about the virus in people's expelled breath.

doubleshotespresso · 19/07/2020 16:46

YABU

notsohippychick · 19/07/2020 16:48

Ew! No! Hot tubs are grim

notsohippychick · 19/07/2020 16:49

And surely I’d hit water killed all germs we would have no need for all this in the first place??!!!!!!

Neveranynamesleft · 19/07/2020 16:51

Hot tubs are gross. Go to the party, just stay out of the water

jrb123 · 19/07/2020 16:51

Our recent local outbreak of Covid was traced to a hot tub party. Just saying.

Apolloanddaphne · 19/07/2020 16:51

I would go to the party but not go in the hot tub. I don't like them at all and would never choose to go in one.

Climbingallthetrees · 19/07/2020 16:57

I think the type of person who would hold a hot tub party with a fair few families is unlikely to have been great at sticking to other rules, so higher chance of being infected than people who follow the rules. That said, if you’re in an area where local infections are running at around one or two a week and you’re all outside, even with a lot of families there the risk is very minimal. I wouldn’t do it, but I can see why some people would.

ssd · 19/07/2020 17:05

I think it's crazy a grown adult thinks hot water kills covid. I don't believe you are at all genuine, I think this is lazy journalism.

ssd · 19/07/2020 17:06

And really your username says it all, new poster alert.
