Should I go to this party?

I haven’t seen my close friends since the start of lockdown. They’ve just done their garden up and got a massive hot tub so have invited a fair few people from different households along with their children for drinks tonight. I’m fed up of lockdown now and a party with friends would really boost my morale but DH says it’ll be like a ‘Covid spa’ in the hot tub. The kids would love to play with their friends too. Surely the hot water kills any germs?

YABU - DH is right, silly idea
YANBU - Go and enjoy yourself

I wouldn’t go in a hot tub , Covid or no Covid.

Pobblebonk · 19/07/2020 17:08

The water would need to be at at least 56 degrees centigrade to kill the virus - that's around 133 degrees fahrenheit. Even then it would have no effect if someone coughed near you and you breathed in the spray. Give this one a miss, OP.

No. You should report the illegal gathering to the police and ask them to attend to disperse it.

DeRigueurMortis · 19/07/2020 17:25

If the hot tub is chlorinated that will kill the virus, but you shouldn't go in it with a mix of people from different households.

So if you and DH used it alone, then another family got in after you had finished that would be ok assuming you also socially distanced for the rest of the party.

If it's not chlorinated then I wouldn't go in Covid or not as it's just hot germ soup Confused.

Who holds a hot tub party during a pandemic anyway?!

IndecentFeminist · 19/07/2020 17:31

I wouldn't get in the hot tub, covid or no covid. But I might go to the party

IndecentFeminist · 19/07/2020 17:32

But it also sounds a bit like there won't be much social distancing going on?

IsMiseMorag · 19/07/2020 17:40

The magic disinfecting hot tub is a red herring here, surely?

The official guidelines are written like an impossible O-Level English Comprehension exercise from 1965 but it's pretty clear about party size - no more than six people from different households outside. Hot tub or no hot tub.

IsMiseMorag · 19/07/2020 17:42

Oh, wait! There is almost hot tub specific legislation!

avoid using paddling pools or other garden equipment with people outside of your household or bubble

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/07/2020 17:51

I would go, take my own drink, Stay outSide, socially distance, and go nowhere near the hot tub!
