To have asked her to stop honking her horn

Probably was unreasonable but I've just gone outside to ask a lady to stop honking her horn (honked it 6 times - she was joking around trying to hurry a friend up who was in her house). 2 of my neighbours and myself all have young babies who nap during the day at the front of the house. I just find it so unnecessary to be honking the horn like that. She does it most weeks and I just had enough today.
I wasn't arsey and asked nicely and she just laughed and shook her head. She's probably going to do it more now isn't she. Argh!
I know, I know - I should move to a quieter area if it bothers me that much!

She's very rude. Do you know the friend whose house she was honking outside of? If so, I'd have a word and tell her it is very inconsiderate of honking friend as there are at least 3 babies napping at that time.

SallyLovesCheese · 17/07/2020 15:39

You shouldn't use your car horn when stationary. It's to alert other road users whilst driving.

Thedogscollar · 17/07/2020 15:40

Yep @SallyLovesCheese just said it.

LonginesPrime · 17/07/2020 15:40

You did nothing wrong in behaving as if she was probably a decent, considerate person and simply didn't realise she was disturbing other people by repeatedly honking her horn "for a laugh".

Turns out she didn't actually give a shit.

There's no need for you to feel bad, though, OP - you did nothing wrong.

SallyLovesCheese · 17/07/2020 15:40

From the Highway Code.

To have asked her to stop honking her horn
Fedupmum13 · 17/07/2020 15:41

Nope it's 2 doors down from me but I've never met or spoken to those that live there. I just don't see the point of honking that many times

OP posts:
Fedupmum13 · 17/07/2020 15:43

Ah thanks for that. If she does it next time I'll show her that. I'm sure that'll make her love me even more though! Eek

And the legislation - 99(1)(a)

To have asked her to stop honking her horn
GoshHashana · 17/07/2020 15:45

Egg her car.

Nacreous · 17/07/2020 15:45

Pretty sure that MUST NOT in the highway code means it's actually illegal. So if she does do it more I'd be tempted to be a total pain in the neck and video it with her reg in the pick the next several times and email it to the local PCSO to have a word.

But I am a total bitch about breaking traffic laws and regularly report people for driving over zebra crossings when I am on them and running red lights.

I pushed the police to pursue as far as court when someone hit my car and then drove off leaving minor damage.

Cars are tonne weight human killing missiles which have the power to be massively antisocial as well as incredibly useful. People should be a lot more careful than they are.

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/07/2020 15:45

Even though you were polite, she might have been face saving. Wait and see if she does continue doing it. If so, you might want to have a word with your neighbour.

FlaskMaster · 17/07/2020 15:45

People are such selfish twats. Any chance you could aim the hose at her open car window next time "for a laugh"? Bet she'll find that fucking hilarious.

Fedupmum13 · 17/07/2020 15:49

Yeh I think it's a really good suggestion about speaking to the neighbour. I'll definitely do that if I hear it again. Hopefully, she was a bit embarrassed (hence her reaction) and it's made her more mindful moving forwards. My daughter is generally a good sleeper but a few times it has woken her but I'm even more mindful of my next door neighbour with a much younger baby than mine who is a terrible sleeper. Our estate is really quiet normally but as its a new build we don't all really know eachother that well. It'll be interesting when she drops her friend off to see if she does it... Watch this space.

Yes very unreasonable of her not to know the street is full of sleeping babies. I would suggest to her to park around the corner and tip toe around to call for her friend in future, and definitely quote the highway code to her, she'll shit herself

bloodywhitecat · 17/07/2020 15:51

YANBU, I'd be pissed off too.

Fedupmum13 · 17/07/2020 15:52

Oh bore off veganveal

tara66 · 17/07/2020 15:53

If she does it again - go out with pen and paper and write down license plate number pointedly in front of her. Tell her you're reporting her to police for 'nuisance'', excessive noise and anything else you can think of.

Nonotthisagain · 17/07/2020 15:53

Ignore veganveal op. the woman is sounding her horny illegally you are completely in the right and it's shitty behaviour, regardless of sleeping babies.

Nonotthisagain · 17/07/2020 15:56

On another note if someone was sounding their horn to hurry me out of my house I'd be switching the kettle on and settling down with a brew 🤣

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/07/2020 15:56

Sarcasm is not always the lowest form of wit. It can be sublime when done really really well. You know, totally unlike this.
killerofmen · 17/07/2020 16:01

Incorrect use of the ancillary controls is one of my major driving bugbears.

breatheinskipthegym · 17/07/2020 16:02

VeganVeal, it IS unreasonable of her to behave in a way that’s antisocial, illegal and irritating, irrespective of the ages of the residents around her. People who behave like twats should absolutely be confronted/corrected.

Shopkinsdoll · 17/07/2020 16:06

Some people are oblivious to what’s around them. No thought for anyone else. That and someone sitting outside my house for ages with the engine on and their car lights beaming into my house. So annoying

MrsJBaptiste · 17/07/2020 16:16

Oh come on, it's hardly the end of the world. Did you actually go outside to tell her to stop pressing her horn? Oh dear...
