Have a selection of people on my social media who insist on checking in when they end up in hospital. They don't say anything or if they do it's literally an emoji and then they get floods of oh no what's happened or hope all is ok etc. They reply with DM me. Then a couple of hours later there will be another post about how thankful they are to everyone that DM's them and can see who cares about them etc.
Why oh why insist on posting publicly that you are in hospital but then ask everyone to DM you. Is it just attention seeking!
YABU - there is nothing wrong with this
YANBU - it is ridiculously silly and annoying

It’s tacky as fuck.

Whenwillow · 16/07/2020 18:00

Tacky

IwishIhadaMargarita · 16/07/2020 18:01

I have one who put a crude of herself lying in a hospital bed with a mask on etc. Her 22 selfies had obviously not got enough attention 🙄

IwishIhadaMargarita · 16/07/2020 18:01

although I did tag myself at the gp a few times as I was heading into work late and kinda wanted to prove I’d been at the doctor.

HowFastIsTooFast · 16/07/2020 18:02

How often are these people ending up in hospital, assuming they're not there for run-of-the-mill outpatients appointments (in which case maybe even weirder to share??!??!)

yetanotherweasley · 16/07/2020 18:03

@IwishIhadaMargarita don't get me started on the photos.
One of cannula in hand, one in a gown and then pictures of her bed Hmm

With you on this one OP. I know people who make a big drama announcing that they or their child is at hospital. One this week turned out to be the skin clinic for eczema. A few weeks ago big drama about a child's operation. It was a tooth extraction, but literally squeezed as much drama as possible. The DM me ones are the worst. When I was in hospital with appendicitis, I said so as my neighbours had all been peering out of their net curtains.

yetanotherweasley · 16/07/2020 18:05

@HowFastIsTooFast a couple of people have medical conditions that mean they get admitted quite often.
One will post every time she has a cold, a bruise etc. She takes herself to a&e quite often for no real reason

Nicolastuffedone · 16/07/2020 18:10

Attention seeking.....can’t stand it.

Smallsteps88 · 16/07/2020 18:11

I would have thought it’s obvious to all that they are attention seekers.

PanamaPattie · 16/07/2020 18:13

How I hate the “you ok hun?” posts.

Soubriquet · 16/07/2020 18:18

Vaguebooking

Then then say PM me when you ask what’s wrong

Hours later they finally say something like “oh it was just injections for dd” or “I needed an x-ray as I fell over”

They make it sound like they are in deaths door

FelicityPike · 16/07/2020 18:27

“Thank goodness they’re finally sorting out your gohnnorea, took them long enough!”

Bluetrews25 · 16/07/2020 18:29

At the GUM clinic again, sweetie?
Go on, I dare you!

Skyliner001 · 16/07/2020 18:33

We must know the same person!

julybaby32 · 16/07/2020 18:48

"Well, I'm sure you'd DM me if you wanted me to know, otherwise I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to ask?"

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 16/07/2020 18:48

What surprises me also is how frequently these types seem to use the hospital!! One of our neighbours is forever at checking in at A&E with her kid with crap like ear infections or sore throats.. totally inappropriate use if the service and she seems affronted that they're not treated as an emergency and she has to wait!

I had one other week selfies of her in an oxygen mask with suspected covid 19 then few days later shes been out hair, nails, eyebrows (not sure how since not allowed to do eyebrows yet)
All attention seeking.
