Have a selection of people on my social media who insist on checking in when they end up in hospital. They don't say anything or if they do it's literally an emoji and then they get floods of oh no what's happened or hope all is ok etc. They reply with DM me. Then a couple of hours later there will be another post about how thankful they are to everyone that DM's them and can see who cares about them etc.
Why oh why insist on posting publicly that you are in hospital but then ask everyone to DM you. Is it just attention seeking!
YABU - there is nothing wrong with this
YANBU - it is ridiculously silly and annoying

@yetanotherweasley I had one exactly the same! Cannula picture, pic of legs in compression stockings, pic of hospital bracelet, selfie of sad looking hospital face.. so bizarre. Then there was someone I know who posted a hospital selfie titled 'after party' having drunk and snorted her way into A&E..but what I hate most is people posting pics of their kids in hospital, I spent a lot of time in hospital as a child and can't imagine having had my mum make me pose for selfies so she could garner attention on Facebook..

frog22 · 16/07/2020 18:59

Attention seeking nonsense. They would be better off going to a therapist than a hospital.

BalletShoe · 16/07/2020 19:00

Yanbu.

A girl I know does this, usually when she's taken her child to A+E for stubbing their toe or having a runny nose.

She also asks "does anyone know when Asda is open till?" etc. instead of using google.

betteliefsen · 16/07/2020 19:00

YANBU.
I took somebody off my friends list as they were doing this to excess, photos of their child in a hospital bed when they were sick. Sadly the child didn't make it and we had photos of them then as well. I felt very sorry for them but I don't think FB is the appropriate places for photos in those circumstances.

Russellbrandshair · 16/07/2020 19:01

Urgh YANBU. I hate posts like that and will block people who do it.
Either tell us whats wrong and we will support you or STFU.

Its so manipulative and attention seeking. Or they'll put something like
"I guess life isnt really worth it anymore..." and everyone will rush to say "Are you ok? DM me" and then they'll go "I really dont want to talk about it". You just did you nitwit. Block them.

VettiyaIruken · 16/07/2020 19:01

Attention.

They're always Blue Lighted To Hospital too.

And the selfie in the hospital bed.

It's actually really sad. Not sarcastic sad. Sad sad. To need attention that badly.

devildeepbluesea · 16/07/2020 19:04

@FelicityPike

“Thank goodness they’re finally sorting out your gohnnorea, took them long enough!”
I am nicking this!
YeahWhatevver · 16/07/2020 19:04

Attention seeking in various ways on social media is very prevalent and really cringe worthy

Just ignore it OP

PinkiOcelot · 16/07/2020 19:07

Makes you want to puke.

Bargainhuntbore · 16/07/2020 19:09

I fucking detest them.

PM me babe - means im nosey as fuck.

MerryDeath · 16/07/2020 19:17

lol why are you friends with these people? i'd at the very least have unfollowed so i didn't have to use my irritation up on such low hanging idiot fruits.

yetanotherweasley · 16/07/2020 20:10

@MerryDeath I now have an ongoing 'game' with DP guessing how many times they will tag themselves in in a month

My dad is the worst for this. In fact he’s just a big Facebook attention seeker in general and I cannot stand him.
Every day there’s a new drama he’s written a paragraph about. And there’s always loads of people commenting and sympathising with his bullshit Hmm it’s very odd because he’s a complete arsehole who has no real life friends so I have no idea who all these Facebook people are.

He’ll frequently go to the hospital for some completely innocent reason like a blood test and write “Blood test time, fingers crossed it goes well”
Last year he was in hospital for a stroke and we got a full on photo of him in the bed with hospital pyjamas on telling everyone about his ordeal. The man’s in his 50s ffs!!!

Sorry for the rant, he makes me very angry Blush

@IwishIhadaMargarita ohhh maybe. My one particular serial offender posts about her parents all the time too.
Very sad as she's lost them both but it is constant

Yanbu.

canigooutyet · 16/07/2020 20:32

THe best thing I saw on FB
A friend had been in and out of hospital like a yoyo for several months.

One of their mates posted on their wall to have a go at them for not letting their friends know, and it's very suspicious they didn't and how they are owed an explanation.

I wish I was kidding. Had to read it several times to make sure I was reading it right.

Person would not have it they had no right to know anything.

Friend eventually comes on. Tells the joker to fuck off, they hadn't even met, forgotten they had been added, it was a farmfriends things or one of those 🤣

They only new as another playing mentioned something in passing about lack of activity due to their health went digging and started having a go. It was crazy and of course what about mmmeeeeee.
