Aibu to want a massive car?

I have an Arteon at the minute. It's basically the biggest cabin and boot size I could find without having a van/ SUV which would be quite the gas guzzler / possibly a bit too big to be respectful on school run

We have 3 bikes and my youngest will have one soon too. We love the outdoors. Lease is coming up in Jan and I need to order a new car sort of in the next 12 weeks or I need to extend the lease

The car is 260£ all in pm which is a great price and I really love it but the car is too small for the boys now with their long legs/ car seats in the back

I can't even fit between the two car seats in the back and I am only 47 kg

What cars could I look at and is it bad to get a big one? I want another baby, my husband doesn't but I think we will have one anyway. It would likely be during the lease period of this next car I order so what ideas could I have?

Thinking of
Sharan
Seat Altecca (i think that's what it is)
Mercedes Vito or whatever the van one is called
Transporter (husband had one for work but has now got a crafter coming it only has 3 seats)
Xc90 (but not keen)

I want to find a good deal as wellon the car

Ideas?

I want another baby, my husband doesn't but I think we will have one anyway - you've got bigger issue's then what car next with this one sentence alone.

Choice4567 · 15/07/2020 12:24

Wait what? Your husband doesn’t want another baby but you think you’ll just do it anyway, and neatly tying in with a car lease?

I guess someone is bored. Wink

You are going to have a baby against your husband’s wishes, AND you want a big car, AND you’re only 47kg???

You could’ve had 3 different threads. Lazy.

PawPawNoodle · 15/07/2020 12:34

You're only 47kg? Wow you're so tiny! So, so small. Surely you're so little that you'd just fit in the glove box?

I have a Golf and that fits 5 adults including their legs without issue, no idea how your children are lacking legroom.

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:35

Oh dear I seem to have set off the human rights police

He will most likely change his mind. He has kept all the baby stuff, said if we can sort out his work schedule then why not.

What is this thread

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:35

@PolPotNoodle

Do you have car seats in the back? I have two and I can't get inbetween them?

OP posts:
cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:36

I am 5ft.

OP posts:
Baaaahhhhh · 15/07/2020 12:38

What are the ages of your children? If one has a bike, and another is getting a bike, and your kids already have long legs, suggesting height, why do you still have two full car seats in the back??

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/07/2020 12:40

PawPawNoodle · 15/07/2020 12:41

@cultkid I don't but I was talking about legroom, since you mentioned they didn't have any. I think you'd struggle to find a car that would have a usable middle seat with 2 car seats unless you get an S-Max or equally hideous MPV.

You might have a seat up front become vacant if you have a baby without your husband's agreement so I'd factor that in.

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:43

One is 4 and 118cm tall?
The other one is 12 months and is in a rear facing seat called a Sirona it's very wide? And when it faces forward eventually he can only be behind the passenger seat as per previously with the 4 year old.
My husband is 6ft 3 so he's big and when he drives the car the Sirona doesn't fit forward behind him. So we need something with larger leg room in the back and if at all possible wider in the back so I can sit in the back with them or someone else could as we cannot currently fit anyone else in our car if all 4 of us are in it.

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:43

@PolPotNoodle yes good point I'm sure he would leave me if we had a planned baby in the future.

paap1975 · 15/07/2020 12:45

If your're worried about a gas-guzzler, look at the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:45

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints

Fuck, yes, you're right, think I'll flood everyone's feed about my healthy range BMI for my height, the fact my husband is currently undecided on a baby so we use Precautions not to get pregnant and the fact I'm wondering about cars.

OP posts:
cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:45

@paap1975 I wonder if the back bench is wider then in the car we have? It's annoying that they sell these things as 5 seater family cars it's not true when there are car seats involved.

OP posts:
cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:47

It's normal bmi

Arteon is a fancy looking VW Passat with less room. Skoda Superb, Audi A6 (actually the same car underneath) both available as estates would have plenty of space without having to go full on SUV people carrier

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:52

@Hingeandbracket we had an A6 estate previously and the back part of the car where the seats are actually has smaller measurements

The Passat is the same as the arteon largely, but it's actually bigger.

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:53

I feel nit picked for this

We are a very outdoorsy family, 2 Adults, 2 dc (8, 11, not in car seats any longer). We have a VW Transporter for the bikes, and can stick camping stuff around them. The van has a bench seat behind the front seats - fits 3 comfortably - which obviously takes space from the van space - , but there is still enough space for 4 adult sized MTBs. This was the main requirement for whatever van we got, that and fitting in our small driveway I find it very easy to drive.

cultkid · 15/07/2020 12:58

@BikeRunSki

This is the sort of reply I'm looking for!

I am going to have a look at them. I think that it all be quite a lot more to lease but it will suit our hobbies incl camping and fitting everything in
My husband loved his for work but it didn't have more then 3 seats And it was manual so I didn't drive it. Is it like a car to drive

Yes he fit his on our drive way (barrow, 1930s) it was so tight but i think he will have to keep his new van on the drive again as he has tools in it and people have broken into cars in our area a lot lately

Did you find it ok on the school run?

AriettyHomily · 15/07/2020 12:59
