Last time I watched it was at university where I was very impressed that my IT housemate managed to download them from America before they were shown on bbc. Only took around a day an episode... 😂
20 years on... Angel has lost his soul and Spike is in town...
Eagerly awaiting Anya's entrance as my favourite character.
And how the heck was cordelia ever cast as a 16 year old 😂

@Fandanglethat

laurenlodge I think the attempted rape was incredibly well done. It really showed the motivation behind his actions, whilst making it clear he was very, very wrong. I think it was excellently done, particularly for a 'teen' drama.
Totally agree on how it was handled - quite sensitively I thought. I'm just sad that it really stifles what was a great redemption arc for Spike - even when you consider the finale it's still hard to forget.

I'm just a sucker for a happy ending I guess which is pretty daft for a show about killing demons....

scrappydappydoooooo · 15/07/2020 13:16

Wheres Dawn? She's not been invented yet. What? You know, she doesn't exist until series 5, we've been over this. That can't be right, you're having a laugh.

I've seen people online play a bit of a game with this. They discuss season 1-4 episodes, especially those that heavily include Joyce, and speculate one what everyone remembers Dawn doing at the time. Like what happened to Dawn in Helpless. When Kralik kidnapped Joyce do they remember him taking Dawn as well. Or do the just remember her being at a lot of sleepovers? How does Joyce remember the months where Buffy ran away. In reality she was all alone but in her memories she had to parent Dawn.

As for James Marsters, I've read some pretty disturbing things about him and Michelle Trachtenberg as she grew older. Apparently the reasons for Spike and the 'little bit' not continuing their close relationship when Buffy was dead/returned had to do with protecting a minor. He never acted on any attraction to her but he has openly sung about his feelings for her. And unlike when the original cast were playing adults playing teenagers. Trachtenberg was actually a minor throughout the show.

myfurloughedfriend · 15/07/2020 13:17

Love Buffy & Angel, re-watched them both over lockdown with the kids, who also loved them.

Try Grimm, like Buffy but with a hot Adult male demon hunter who is also a cop with a werewolf for a best friend (better than it sounds!) in DDs words, oh I get it, Buffy is a teen version of Grimm 😁

Coldemort · 15/07/2020 13:24

Have to fess up that I've not been watching them in order but skipping to my favourite ones.
So I of course started with once more with feeling. I've seen the body Sad, Tara get shot, Hush, Evil Willow, where buffy reads minds....

There’s a Buffy binge thread in Telly Addicts just now, if anyone fancies joining in

Hadjab · 15/07/2020 13:32

Just finished the lot, rewatching Angel at the weekend ❤️

Hadjab · 15/07/2020 13:32

@myfurloughedfriend Grimm is fantastic!

HavingAMoan · 15/07/2020 13:37

We’re also re-watching it! On to the second series so far.

SomethingPunny · 16/07/2020 10:23

What's wrong with Joss these days? Writing slipped or some scandal? Shame either way

Joss is still around, he's been involved with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and he has a new series coming up called The Nevers. IIRC it's about witches in victorian England.

I'm loving rewatching Buffy on E4, it's amazing how much I've forgotten. When Angel killed Miss Calendar that was a real shock to me! Lots of great episodes to look forward to that I do remember. Hush is definitely my favourite.

DoraemonDingDong · 16/07/2020 10:43

@squeekums thanks for that link, good read! I can't believe JM now has kids in college Shock

Knotaknitter · 16/07/2020 10:49

I've got lots recorded and I've just started watching series one this week. I can't believe how young they are but there again, I was a lot younger back in the day. I'm trying to ration them...

SEE123 · 16/07/2020 10:50

Me too @coldemort! Absolutely loving it.
It's appeal is so enduring. And totally agree on Team Spike vs Team Angel. I think it's the cheekbones 😂😂😂

Wither · 16/07/2020 21:35

Helloooo Spike!

His accent is terrible!!

randomchap · 16/07/2020 21:44

Binged Buffy and Angel at the beginning of lock down. I love how the very minor character Anne develops.

Hush and The Body are two of the best episodes of anything ever.

Coldemort · 16/07/2020 23:44

Just watched the season 3 finale. Hello 90's CGI Grin

His accent is terrible!!

Are you kidding? It's a little shaky in his first appearances, I'll admit, but, later on, it's one of the best British accents I've heard an American do. Compare with Drusilla's, which is full-on Dick Van Dyke!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 17/07/2020 09:22

His accent is terrible!!

I've literally just posted this on the other Buffy thread (so sorry for repetition). At the beginning it really isn't good and James Marsters knew it. His accent got better as the seasons went on because Anthony Head gave him training, since Anthony Head's real accent is closer to Spike's than Giles'!

sueelleker · 17/07/2020 09:53

Faith wasn't the chosen one they covered that. She was; after Buffy 'died' for the first time, the line passed to Kendra, then when Dru killed her Faith was activated. After that Buffy was an 'extra' Slayer.

Binglebong · 17/07/2020 10:44

Apparently he requested fewer scenes with Dawn as she had a big obvious crush on him and it made him uncomfortable. His song was fiction - it was written as if it was requited.

How was Faith not the current chosen one? If Buffy still was a third slayer would have bern called when she died again. Incidently can anyone else see the watchers doing death and revivals to all the players to get extra ones called? A slayer pyramid scheme....

excuseforfights · 17/07/2020 11:10

I was quite sad that they made the relationship between Buffy and Spike so fucked up, even a bit abusive IIRC.

Coldemort · 19/07/2020 23:46

Talking of terrible accents can we please mention Kendra who sounds like shes from the dodgy end of Swansea...

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 19/07/2020 23:59

🤣 ah yes Kendra I love her accent 🤣

Miafey · 20/07/2020 03:12

It was Wesley being American that shocked me! Great character particularly once he moved over to Angel.

purpleme12 · 20/07/2020 07:45

Ah yes I was shocked by that when I heard it too!
