AIBU?

To think Monica and Chandler were a much better couple

Than Ross and Rachel?

I'm currently rewatching Friends on Netflix.
Ross was possessive and jealous. He couldn't stand when Rachel was successful in her new career and wanted everything about him, even with his own sister. She could do so much better and I still hate the fact she ended up with him, despite having a child together. They didn't suit each other at all and were complete opposite. Plus the whole 'we were on a break' thing was just ridiculous.

Monica and Chandler, however, were such a natural couple. He really grew up when he got with her. They loved each other despite their differences and quirks. If anything, they seemed to be better as a couple because of them. I loved them together.

Yes, I'm aware they're just characters in a TV show but amuse me.

YABU - Ross and Rachel were a much better couple

YANBU - Monica and Chandler had the best relationship

I also dislike the fact that Rachel gives up a massive career opportunity to be with Ross - just like Carrie with Mr Big.

Yes Monica and Richard presented as a nice couple but there was a massive age gap 21 years I do believe and he just wasn't willing or able to give her what she (as a much younger woman) wanted.

He was her fathers friend and knew her from a very young age, but icky if you look at it in a certain light.

Teenage me loved Ross and Rachel.

40 year old me can see what a whiny manipulative creepy twat he is.

I fucking loved Mike too. My best character overall.

There were some fab supporting characters (Richard and Mike) and some superb cameos.

It was a bit icky. But then, Ross dated his student, Monica also dated Richard's SON after him!, Ross snogged chandler's mum, Chandler copped off with Joey's sister then couldn't remember which one etc so they've ALL done icky stuff.

100% Joey and Rachel, that was adorable

Monica and Chandler are wonderful. I even say, “I want to find my Chandler and marry him”. They are a realistic, emotionally healthy, warts and all, best friends who have amazing sex couple. Relatable and aspirational.

Monica and Richard grossed.me.out.

Big style. Too old and Percy Dad like.

Although it was adorable when Chandler was jealous of him.

Ross and Rachel, too much drama, too much immaturity, both a bit self obsessed, controlling, not willing to put the other first.

Just for the comic value, I would have loved to have seen Joey and Janice together. It would have been hilarious.

I always felt bad for Ross’s other girlfriends who always got ditched! Especially poor Emily.

Joey was the most loyal friend of them all, he never screwed any of the others over but was shit on a few times himself.

I agree, it was so lame. It felt like they were going, "right- which friend hasn't she shagged yet?" It felt very unnatural and weird.

Also the only character I REALLY hated was that fucking nasty bitch Susan!

Yes! She was awful. So mean and bitchy!

Yes, always bothered me how Monica allowed Susan to speak to her brother like shit, sometimes in her own apartment.

Ross was such a dick, such a massive fucking dick.

I wanted it to be Chandler and Rachel but that was never going to happen.

Apropos of this thread, I had a dream about Friends earlier this week. In it, Chandler was actually gay and using Monica as his beard. Rachel went to a lesbian hen do and was talking about the lifestyle and thinking that maybe she was actually a lesbian. In my dream, I was thinking that Friends was far more diverse than I had thought it was back in the day. The kicker of the dream, however, was that the main lesbian was played by Brian Cranston.

I’m currently rewatching.

I never get why people hated the Joey and Rachel storyline. I thought they suited each other really well and Joey seemed almost sweet. I was quite sad they ditched it for Ross and Rachel to get together.

Monica and Chandler are what a proper relationship should be like imo, so much better.

I liked Mike and was glad Phoebe chose him over David.

Wow...the ross hate is interesting. I've dated a few controlling men and Ross doesn't even come close...or perhaps they were double-edged, multi-level controlling.

I love Ross and I saw him as someone with some sort of OCD, perfectionist, everything has it's place personality more so than abusive-controlling. At least not intentionally so. Look at the way he was about his job, they were all making fun of that and also calling him boring for liking his job and being an intellectual.

Monica was also completely anal about stuff regarding order, food and organisation - Crazy plate lady, anyone? Think they both got it from their mum just in different ways.

Ross was more sensible than the rest of them, had a heart of gold - was giving, kind, thoughtful and jumped through hoops for double-standard-wielding, whiny Rachel who wanted to world to revolve around her. Not to mention he seemed to be richer than all of them ( I think) but never made a big deal about it. Lent money to his friends readily and bought things for them on a whim without complaining. Always wanted to help whenever he could. I also found him very funny at times.

They all had their weaknesses but think Ross is getting an unfair walloping here.

That said, I loved Chandler and Monica and thought Ross and Rachel's relationship was too much drama and boring most times. Rachel was my least favourite. Her scenes weren't as entertaining unless others were in it.

Chandler and Janice and Monica with Richard makes way more sense. Though I'm still holding out for a Janice and the Mattress King spin off.

This is so weird. I’m currently watching Friends again too! I completely agree about Ross.

I have also noticed that I don’t sleep well after watching Ross & Rachel high drama / shouty episodes Confused

He dropped his dinner date with Phoebe for a date
