To ask what you think of Eastern Europeans living in the UK?

Bananasinpjs7 · 11/07/2020 13:19

I have lived in the UK for almost 10 years which is pretty much a 1/3 of my life. I never thought I’d stay this long but met my partner here and decided to build a career in an industry that we don’t really have in my home country... yet.
I’m trying my best... language wise I think I’m pretty fluent. English is the language I speak 95% of the time.
I try to fit in as much as possible, learn as much as I can about the UK to understand it’s history and culture...
But I feel extremely left out ... I feel people look at me and think ‘she is from eastern eu’ as if it has some sort of stigma. It feels like if you are from somewhere glamorous like France or Scandinavian countries you are much more accepted... I’m so tired of constantly feeling like this

but if they're Muslim - that can be a very big problem

For example.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:15

With Muslims is a slightly different issue. EE countries look at the Western countries and see that some communities do not integrate very well. That's why there is fear - that certain problems will be imported

In a conversation about whether non white, non Christian Brits would be welcome to live, work and openly practise their religion in Eastern Europe.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:15

I didn't say it. Don't add to me what I didn't say.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:17

TazSyd, I have reported you for twisting information and for inciting hatred. You should be ashamed of such behaviour.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:18

Depends on a country I guess. Are there many Muslim countries tolerant to Christians?
I haven't researched this topic either way so don't know

You did say this about British Muslims though. Forgetting that British Muslims are British?

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:19

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

I’ve reported you for holocaust denial.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:21

TazSyd, I understand. You want to see what you want to see.

CatsArePeople · 16/07/2020 13:22

Racism, sexism, homophobia, anti semitism, islamophobia - you have all of that in the UK, plenty of it. Just ordinary people have learned to behave, be polite and not express offensive feelings or opinions. EE people are less likely to hide the negativity.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:22

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

I think you should read up on the different forms of holocaust denial. Attempting to minimise the holocaust (as you did) is classed as holocaust denial. You should be ashamed of yourself.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:22

Seriously? I have Jewish ancestry.
It's what you want to see.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:23

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

“The denial of the Holocaust takes many forms, from simply ignoring obvious facts by manipulating the sources, through minimizing the dimensions of genocide, to trivializing and rationalizing genocide by analogy and claiming that it is an acceptable example of the kinds of things that happen in wartime.”

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:25

I didn't minimise it. I am very sorry if you thought I did because I didn't. I wanted only to show how ugly and evil that time was. And my ancestors had to deny they were Jews and eventually mixed up.

randomer · 16/07/2020 13:34

Better swerve Poland if you are LGBT.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 16/07/2020 13:37

Ok..ok.. we suck, are highly racist,antisemitic, homophobic, whateverelsephobic, should be eternally grateful we managed to step a foot in the UK and forever apologise for bringing the standards down. Is that better?

Or is that bullying, silencing and disdainful too?

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:38

rationalizing genocide by analogy and claiming that it is an acceptable example of the kinds of things that happen in wartime.

Do you understand that this is a form of holocaust denial?

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 13:51

No, TazSyd, I am not a Holocaust denier and don't dare to put this label on me. I can clearly see that you're continuing to target me and it feels like being abused.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:55

I am not targeting or abusing you. Merely pointing out, on a discussion forum, that you have views towards Ethnic minority British people, that I don’t find acceptable.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 13:57

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

You put that label on yourself, with your comments. I don’t decide what holocaust denial is. I’m happy to accept the generally accepted definition, which I shared above.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 14:07

I am a minority myself in Britain, TazSyd. You were targeting and provoking me. I am totally shocked by your implies. It feels like bullying. It feels horrible and I wished I haven't joined this thread.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 16/07/2020 14:08

Well someone is definitely silencing people on this thread. Accusations thrown around with a big dollop of DARVO.

@WhatifIfeellikeacat been there done that. It's pointless to argue or defend yourself. It only stops if you stop/ignore or someone else comes around that needs "educating" .

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/07/2020 14:15

allComeOnBabyPopMyBubble, thanks for understanding. It's gaslighting and I am shocked it is allowed to do it.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/07/2020 14:21

Are Jewish people welcome in Western Europe. TazSyd?

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 14:22

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

Didn’t you say “when in Rome”?

Maybe practise what you preach. Some of your views, as stated by you, in your comments, aren’t acceptable in the U.K. Like it or not.

Xenia · 16/07/2020 14:25

The holocaust did happen. In the UK it is lawful to deny that. In Austria it is not. the UK is more in favour of freedom of speech even if people say things that are wrong like Prince Philip is a lizard or there is a god or there is no god.

We should let people express any views they like., On the whole the Eastern Europeans have been welcomed in the UK and do well here. Lots do not want to settle here so just came over for a few years to work. Eg when the pound v the euro was doing less well plenty decided to return as for many it is just about the difference between what you make here and what at home. Today's news is Spain is doing particularly badly for jobs (Western Europe) so it is likely more Spaniards will move abroad.It just comes and goes.

The UK is one of the most tolerant places on the planet which is why lots of people want to be here. Long may it remain like that.

TazSyd · 16/07/2020 14:26

@DrinkFeckArseGirls

They are in the U.K. Many have lived here for centuries, so aren’t classed as immigrants.
