To think my bladder should empty first time?

Whitegrenache · 10/07/2020 23:02

I'm 44 and not peri menopausal - normal
Blood and no symptoms

So every night I go to the toilet before bed and have a pee - i wait until I'm empty and then wiggle around so that I squeeze every last drop out

So why the fuck do I need to go back 5 minutes later when I am nice and cosy in my bed

It's annoying me a lot

I don't have my symptoms of a urinary infection

I'm now officially and old lady aren't I???

This happens to me a lot too, also 44..... It's infuriating! I'll be interested to see any replies.

CyberNan · 10/07/2020 23:22

do you drink a lot of coffee...? alcohol...? check your diet, you could be taking something that is a diuretic. if you google it, you'll find lots of info... could be that you just drink a lot and it needs to come out... could be diabetes... or pregnancy :-)

mollypuss1 · 10/07/2020 23:22

I have the same, I’m 42. I assume it’s just age. I’m finding a lot of my body parts are not behaving themselves as they should these days.

ItsSummer · 10/07/2020 23:23

Same here!

MaraScottie · 10/07/2020 23:23

I get this ALL the time. Its driving me insane. It used to happen a fair bit when I was on my 2nd pregnancy, not only could I not empty my bladder properly, it came out reeeeeaaaaaaally slowly. My bladder was bursting and it was coming out in a trickle. Thankfully I don't have that any more but my bladder is definitely still rubbish.

I'm 40 this month

Northernsoullover · 10/07/2020 23:28

I'm the same. Or at least I was until I cured my chronic constipation. Do you suffer from constipation? (Now there's a question I thought I'd never ask a stranger Grin). That can affect your bladder capacity

I also avoid any caffeine after one pm. I avoid Americano completely. Somehow a medium Americano turns into an output of 5 litres spread over around 50 trips to the loo Sad

alexdgr8 · 10/07/2020 23:29

go to the loo before you brush and floss your teeth, take off your face, change into pyjamas etc,
then go again just before getting into bed.
this is life.

pinky987 · 10/07/2020 23:30

I’m the same here. I Sometimes find standing up from the toilet then sitting back down and having another wee straight away works.

jessstan2 · 10/07/2020 23:32

I usually go twice at bedtime. I do teeth, face cleaning, washing, put cream on and then have a second week.

I'm like that when I wake as well. I go to the loo and have what seems like a really long wee, then in no time at all I want another one.

There's nothing wrong with me. I do drink a lot of water during the day. We never really empty our bladders, there's always some residual.

None of that bothers me, it's normal; the only thing that would cause concern would be if I couldn't get to the loo in time, especially if I was out. I hope that doesn't happen!

StillMedusa · 10/07/2020 23:33

Same... never a great bladder but post kids, I can never empty it in one go. Last thing at night I wee, brush my teeth, wee again. I could still go again 5 mins later...

Isthisfinallyit · 10/07/2020 23:33

I have that when I drink tea. I now drink less tea.

FizzyPink · 10/07/2020 23:33

That’s really interesting @Northernsoullover Since lockdown I’ve developed awful constipation as well as needing to wee a lot more often than usual.
How did you solve your constipation?

Ifeelfat · 10/07/2020 23:34

Northernsoullover how did you cure your constipation? (Asking for a friend Blush)

ozymandiusking · 10/07/2020 23:36

When you think you have finished, stand up and allow your bladder to drain down some more about 10 seconds or so.Then sit down on the loo again when you sit on the loo, lean forward and open your legs wider.
This helps you firstly empty your bladder of residual urine, and wee more easily.

rosiejaune · 10/07/2020 23:36

Have you tried putting your feet on the seat, so that you are squatting? Or at least raising them. That's the natural position to urinate, so sitting may not fully empty the bladder in the first place.

ChocolateCoffeeCake · 10/07/2020 23:41

Same. I think it's mental for me. Once in bed I start thinking about the toilet and wondering if I need to go again. Then I can't get the thought out of my head and I end up needing to go.

Nowifi · 10/07/2020 23:44

I'm the same, even if I need to do a tiny minuscule pee I can't sleep. Meanwhile my OH can go back to sleep even when he needs a full on wee, how how how?!?!

VanGoghsDog · 10/07/2020 23:47

I can confirm the Fibogel works well, I've had to use it recently due to dieting post lockdown weight gain.

I only take one a day but two are recommended. It's also not totally vile. I put my vitamin tablet and iron water in with it, a three in one, get it all done in one hit.

Merename · 10/07/2020 23:53

I have this too, am 38. I always had quite a slow flow but since kids there’s issues with feeling like I’ve emptied all the dribs and drabs. I also had a mild prolapse after last child so think that plays a part, everything works better when I’ve been doing lots of pelvic floor exercises, but it’s hard to keep motivated when things not bothering you so much.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 10/07/2020 23:57

My bladder is the same. It has been for years (since late teens) and I'm not 40 yet. I've never been pregnant/had kids either. Double voiding is the key - two wees reduces the likelihood of a UTI. You can wait it out or get back out of bed!

feelingsomewhatlost · 11/07/2020 00:02

if it makes you feel any better, it doesn't make you an old lady –I'm 25 and have had this my whole life!!! it's so bloody annoying and nothing I do makes it better :(

FuckYouCorona · 11/07/2020 00:07

I've always had an overactive bladder. I hate it! Always had constipation too, so there is definitely a link. For the constipation, if its really minor then a maintenance dose to keep things running smoothly, something like Fybogel is helpful. If its a bit more than that, try suppositories to help you push it out. They work really well. If its chronic & drastic, like mine, due to contatnt need to use constipating meds, then something like Laxido, which draws water into the bowel is necessary. I'm currently downing a jug of water & lemon juice mixed with 12 sachets of the stuff. Listed dose for impaction is 8 or 9 sachets, but based on my issues I have been advised that 12 is fine for me. Hope this helps! Flowers

Thubten · 11/07/2020 00:13

I have duplex ureter syndrome which means I cannot empty on first go, sooooo unbearably annoying!! Worst is when I'm camping argh!!!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 11/07/2020 00:16

Ugh! I've just had surgery on my bladder as it turned out I had a congenital condition from birth that they just diagnosed. The tip Uber fripom kidney to bladder had a pouch and an extra tube had grown so wee was circulating in my kidney. Huuuuuuge kidney stone 2,5" had t9 be removed and a load of calcification blasted out.
Woke up with a catheter in and OMG the pain of this huge tube. It still isn't right 2 days later. Having to stand up after peeing and do a little wiggle the sit down again. It's all irritated though and I have a stent in which makes it worse. Having to drink loads so I don't yet another uti so consequently not sleeping much. Just peeingGrin

DH made the mistake of saying maybe it's just in my head: the day after the operation! I told him then maybe this knife might just be in your head. Twat.

Thubten · 11/07/2020 00:18

@babysharkdoodoodood total twat of the highest order. Hope you're a bit more comfortable soon.
