To think my bladder should empty first time?

Whitegrenache · 10/07/2020 23:02

I'm 44 and not peri menopausal - normal
Blood and no symptoms

So every night I go to the toilet before bed and have a pee - i wait until I'm empty and then wiggle around so that I squeeze every last drop out

So why the fuck do I need to go back 5 minutes later when I am nice and cosy in my bed

It's annoying me a lot

I don't have my symptoms of a urinary infection

I'm now officially and old lady aren't I???

I have something to try, works for me as I'm dealing with the same 45 and post op and had some endometriosis removed from my bladder.

So before I was allowed to leave hospital I had to be able to stay and empty my bladder so the nurse gave me this tip.

Wee normally, just as you are getting to the end, clamp up and stop the flow, hold it for 1,2,3.

then give a push and put some pressure on, and you'll get the bit you needed to finish plus that annoying bit that's staying in.

She also said to stay on the toilet a tiny bit longer the infer you get, and like the other poster said, stand up and sit down again.

I masters this as I wanted to go home!!

Bit I've found it really helpful post op and it's become a habit..

copperoliver · 11/07/2020 00:24

I have had an appointment with the bladder clinic same sort of problems. She told me once I've been the first time. Stand up for 10 seconds then sit down and go again so it filters down properly once nearly empty.
Also avoid caffeine and do your pelvic floor exercises for a few minutes. 3 times a day. X

copperoliver · 11/07/2020 00:25

Ohh yes also avoid alcohol. X

mellowgreenspring · 11/07/2020 00:25

@Babysharkdoodoodood ouch, I only had the Cather overnight and it was more painful than the post op pains. They are awful you have my sympathy.

Hope you have a smooth recovery and a divorce lined up.. what an absolute tool to say that too you and how upsetting.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 11/07/2020 00:33

I've had this all my life. Then (please don't flame me for this) I made it worse as I had a ketamine addiction (no one knew the damage it could do to the bladder at the time). I don't regret anything as my life is on the path it was destined for.

I go for a wee, walk around my (tiny) bathroom for 20 seconds then go for a second wee. Like a PP I do think about it a lot then I can't switch off from it! I'm a veru anxious person which doesn't help either!

MadameMeursault · 11/07/2020 00:42

Don’t squeeze the last drop out. This is not going to help your muscles down there. Do exercises to try to hold it in and pull it back, not push it out.

Bingowin · 11/07/2020 00:48

I always go again just before I go to sleep.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 11/07/2020 00:51

Oh wow thought this was just me!!!

CardinalCat · 11/07/2020 00:51

Blood tests are rubbish at picking up peri-menopausal hormone changes. I'm a similar age and have the same bladder issue along with other signs of peri- brain fog, temperature fluctuations and general MEH feeling. I've started back on the combined pill recently and everything is a little bit better already. I wouldn't write off hormones as the cause.

longtompot · 11/07/2020 00:58

Yup, 48 here and always desperate for a wee despite just going. I think my issue is due to fibroids pushing on my bladder. I've been told to do pelvic floor exercises to help.
I have found since taking my phone into the loo with me I'll have a wee and then a few minutes after, I'll have another wee, like there is residual wee left.

Weenurse · 11/07/2020 01:00

@Babysharkdoodoodood the stent will be rubbing on your bladder wall causing you to want to pee frequently, also causes blood in the urine.
The more you do, the more the stent rubs and causes frequency and blood.
Tell your DH you can’t do anything around the house because of this 😀
Tea, coffee, alcohol, juice and fizzy drinks all cause bladder irritation, so should be avoided.

flumposie · 11/07/2020 01:02

This has been me for years now Sad

WhitbyGoth · 11/07/2020 01:11

I am 46 and am the same!

Vehivle · 11/07/2020 01:32

This is going to sound terribly weird - but I have found that by gently tickling the top of my sacrum/arse crack- it relaxes my bladder and any small residual pee then releases Blush. I read it explained online somewhere - something about sacral nerves and bladder control. I recommend you all try it! Sometimes I pee out a ton using that method when I thought my bladder was empty! And it helps me to pee in situations like at the drs surgery or public bathroom as I have a ridiculously shy bladder.

AriettyHomily · 11/07/2020 01:34

Double void. It's what royalty do apparently.

jessstan2 · 11/07/2020 01:46

Wow, Vehivle, I'm going to try that one! Never heard of it before.

eeeeeeeeeek · 11/07/2020 01:51

Do you have fibroids by any chance?

I have absolutely no idea if there’s any correlation but this has been me for the last 5 years, and it was discovered I have some rather large fibroids!

Could be a total coincidence but I have no other explanation for why my bladder is suddenly pathetic!

Everhopeful1 · 11/07/2020 02:11

Thanks Northernsoullover for your comment - I am suppose to take 3 lots of lactulose a day. Sometimes I get a bit fed up & and don't take it, and can be up 5/6 times during the night for a dribble wee. Never connected the two before! I should know better as a nurse in hospital told me if I didn't take the lactulose I would end up back in hospital with a build up of toxins in stomach/bowel.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 11/07/2020 02:49

@Weenurse Yeah the consultant said it would irritate my bladder. Thankfully no blood now. Can't give up my coffee though but down to 2 half caffeine (Nespresso pods) cups in the morning. Don't drink juice, alcohol or fizzy stuff anyway. I've given up everything that makes life better Saddue to type 2. But got my hBac1 down from 84 to 49 with diet and still going.

Don't worry, I'm making him do all the lifting. I'll put the shopping away, once he's brought it in and hang out the washing once he's carried it out. I'm also napping lots (being lazy). Told him it stops me wanting to stab him. Except I'm still up at nearly 3am because I had to pee a lot. He's sleeping in the spare room because I keep kicking him (truly accidentally) when I get up to pee. Not that I'm annoyed that he sleeps like a zombie or anything. Wink

jessstan2 · 11/07/2020 03:05

Vehivle - just tried it and it didn't work! I'll have another go when I get up.

Merename · 11/07/2020 09:02

Vehivle I have used this one too!

jessstan2 · 11/07/2020 09:08

I just tried and again it didn't work. Maybe my tickling technique isn't too good! I'll try again shortly. Would a small feather duster help do you think? This is novel!

DivisionBelles · 11/07/2020 09:08

I find leaning forwards helps to get the last bit out.

Backbackandforth · 11/07/2020 09:19

Feet flat on the ground, legs apart, leaning forward with your elbows on your knees.

Empties the bladder with the added bonus of feeling like a cowboy Grin

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/07/2020 09:26

My last wee of the day takes ages, I start stop start stop. Im not even sure when this started to happen but am thinking it's a post having kids/getting older thing.

During the day I wee fine!!
