To think my bladder should empty first time?

I'm 44 and not peri menopausal - normal
Blood and no symptoms

So every night I go to the toilet before bed and have a pee - i wait until I'm empty and then wiggle around so that I squeeze every last drop out

So why the fuck do I need to go back 5 minutes later when I am nice and cosy in my bed

It's annoying me a lot

I don't have my symptoms of a urinary infection

I'm now officially and old lady aren't I???

Ah, my people!

I always need to get up again for a pee. It annoys me so much because it's never an actual pee. A small dribble and no more. It's worthy that or o wake up super early and then cent get back to sleep.

I also Blush when I stand up after peeing Blush have started to dribble a little. I amount of squeezing, pushing or wiping helps. Every time I stand up I feel a tiny drip or 2 and I have take to wiping with a baby/toilet wipe with my leg up on the side of the bath to fix this. It's a nightmare in public toilets trying to co ordinate the extra wipe!!

I sometimes wonder if I should see the GP but then I realise I'm fat and in my 40's so this is probably my life 🙄

Psychological? You've got into a habit of going back for a second wee.

What would happen if you ignored the urge? And do you actually produce anything much when you go?

Another trick round it... Got for a wee when you first start the "getting ready for bed" process. Do all the things, and then go for your second wee. So then it's done before you get into bed!

SteelyPanther · 11/07/2020 09:45

Me too. Then again when I wake up in the night.
Getting older is no fun,

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/07/2020 10:07

I once read that you should stand up after your first ‘go’, and try again. Especially if you’re prone to cystitis.

For some reason it often seems to work.

Dilbertian · 11/07/2020 10:17

I have this problem when my weight increases over a certain amount. Maybe it's abdominal fat pressing on the bladder and making the uterine pool somewhere away from the exit? Then when I move again the fat shifts, allowing the remaining urine to move to wherever it is that triggers the need to go? Because of this, I do more than the wiggle when I am heavy, I actually stand up from the loo, do a brief belly-dance, then sit back down again. Or, as others have suggested, do all the teeth-brushing etc, then sit back down again.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 11/07/2020 10:20

Me too. I'm 45 tomorrow Sad

JaJaDingDong · 11/07/2020 10:20

I believe it's because the fluid that collects in your legs during the day spreads back out throughout the rest of your body when you're lying flat, and your kidneys can process it into urine.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 11/07/2020 10:29

I need a wee now from reading this thread! 🤣

I'm okay at night but terrible in the morning. Wake up, wee immediately, get dressed, wee again, sort kids out for school (when not in lockdown), wee before we leave for school run, do school run (8mins there and back), get home and am desperate for a wee. No idea how I can be desperate for a wee after going less than 10 mins before hand not to mention the other wees I've already done. It drives me mental. Bladder is normal after that wee!

HappyGG · 11/07/2020 10:29

This used to happen to me until I started HRT and then it magically disappeared. I recently had to stop HRT and its back again. I think its a hormone thing.

Iverunoutofnames · 11/07/2020 10:31

I double wee before bed. Once before teeth and once after. I assume it’s psychological as I’ve always done it.

bettydaviseyes1 · 11/07/2020 10:34

I'm 28, no kids and exactly the same!! I think, for me, its psychological. I've got into a habit. Weirdly if I've had a few glasses of wine or I forget about it it doesnt happen. It's not a physical urge to go.

Maybe TMI but is there much wee second round?

QueenCT · 11/07/2020 10:35

Same here and I'm 35. I go before I get into bed then about 10/15 mins later

Vehivle · 11/07/2020 15:16

@jessstan2 lol! Genuinely it's just a tickling/ like scratching on the lower. Sounds gross but start on the butt cheeks and maybe just tickle upwards towards the top of the crack/lower back til you find it? It is down to nerves that attach from there to the bladder, but maybe the exact location varies slightly in different people? Sounds crazy but it's more commonly known about in Japan. I have seen parents tickle the lower back of their children when they are sat on the potty to try and trigger them peeing so they can be potty trained.

If I'm in a stressful peeing situation (ie drs office to provide a sample) I will use that method. But if the situation calls for it (ie if there are strangers waiting outside the door to use the toilet after me and I'm paranoid they can hear) then I will up the method further by turning on the tap. Sound of trickling water also helps to relax things.

bluefoxmug · 11/07/2020 15:21

no coffee after lunch
no alkohol after dinner
'double' wee before and after teeth brushing

(mid 40s had to do that since last dc was born more than a decade ago)

gggrrrargh · 11/07/2020 15:23

My people! I have this too.. like a PP it’s worse in the morning, I can have 7 wee’s whilst my daughter has 1 before we leave the house.

Some good tips and always good to know not alone

narrowboatgirl · 11/07/2020 15:38

I’ve heard the tickling the lower back thing before. I thought it was an old wives tale, but I googled and it’s on the nhs website!

Vehivle · 11/07/2020 15:51

Yes found it! Google "tickle lower back stimulate urine" and it will tell you about it!

Northernsoullover · 11/07/2020 18:44

Constipation cures.. lactulose to begin with. I've had to overhaul my diet completely. I'm on a strict ten a day regime which includes dried prunes (which are actually delicious) satsumas, tomatoes eaten whole. Apples are a good source of fibre. I switched from white bread to granary,
I had absolutely no gut motility whatsoever. I couldn't even muster up a fart Blush. I was quite unwell and ended up being referred for bowel cancer tests (all clear based on the stool sample).
Anyway since things have been moving along nicely I'm peeing far far less. I still avoid coffee though. That stuff goes through me like a sieve

user1471592953 · 11/07/2020 19:36

My people too. I reduce what I drink from 6pm onwards (I drink a lot in the mornings to compensate), have a wee about an hour before bed and then go again before bed. I had the same problem with feeling as though there was some left but decided it was psychological in part and trained myself out of it by doing the above. If I’ve had too much water to drink in the evenings then I do still have the issue but then I resign myself to having to get up in the night - and usually I don’t need to and/or resist as long as possible to increase capacity. I also have digestive issues so eat AllBran and at least three portions of fruit and veg per day plus all that water to keep everything running smoothly (so to speak).

Weenurse · 11/07/2020 23:29

Those of you with dribbles and leaks, you don’t have to live this way.
Prolapses can be treated with pessaries or surgery.
Weakened pelvic floors with exercise.
See your doctor and ask for a referral to a uro gynaecologist.

Merename · 11/07/2020 23:31

@gotothecooler, the drip thing was one of the questions in a bladder questionnaire when I had postnatal physio. I think going to GP would be good idea, and if you’re not keen, get on the pelvic floor exercises for several weeks consistently. We all need the bloody exercises Envy

ethelredonagoodday · 11/07/2020 23:36

Yes same here also. So annoying!

gotothecooler · 11/07/2020 23:38

@Merename

Thank you. This thread has helped me realise I actually should see someone.

AltheaVestr1t · 11/07/2020 23:49

Me! I'm 39, two kids, I've had this for a few years now. I always double wee before bed (once on my way up the stairs, once after reading/teeth etc) but if I don't fall asleep in 10 mins I will have to get up for a wee. If I'm not sleeping well I get stuck in an awful loop of wee - try to fall asleep - realise I need a wee - get up for wee - try to fall asleep for absolutely ages. It's quite infuriating. I'm a very thirsty person and drink loads which doesn't help, and I do try to limit drinks before bed but find that really difficult!

AltheaVestr1t · 11/07/2020 23:50

Also, I can't sleep through the night without a wee anymore, ever. Is that normal at my age?
