To ask for stories if 4th time driving test passes?

Ijustcantdrive · 10/07/2020 10:32

I failed my 3rd test today. I need to drive sometimes for work and I'm quite senior so it's humiliating. I just feel like I'll never pass.

AIBU to ask for stories of 4th test passes?

OP posts:
WhiteCliffsBeside · 10/07/2020 10:36

Me! By the 4th test I'd pretty much resigned myself to taking driving tests being something (expensive Sad) I'd just do every month or so, so all my anxiety had gone and I could concentrate better and passed! Good luck OP.

PuckleP · 10/07/2020 10:38

4th time passer here and so is my best friend. I always say the best drivers pass 4th time. My siblings both passed 1st time and have been done for speeding numerous times, me never which speaks for its self. Keep going it will happen xFlowers

Chanjer · 10/07/2020 10:39

I didn't make it to the 4th but passed on the third try

It was my worst try by far I thought

Alot of it's luck, some of its statistics, hope you get your instructor on a good day next time Smile

June628 · 10/07/2020 10:39

Me! 4th time’s the charm. Don’t not give up, you’ll get there I promise!! Good luck!

June628 · 10/07/2020 10:40

Don’t give up * obviously 🤦🏼‍♀️

motherrunner · 10/07/2020 10:41

I did! January 4th 2000 and I passed with flying colours. I was out and back in 20 minutes and my instructor thought I’d flunked again!

I also know 3 other people who passed 4th time. Don’t give up. I found driving tests really stressful. You’ll get there!

iloveruby · 10/07/2020 10:42

The third time i failed i came home, unplugged the phone, drew the curtains and cried.

I passed on my fourth go! You can do this!

IwishIhadaMargarita · 10/07/2020 10:42

I passed 4th time after failing for 3 stupid things I did. I honestly thought I’d failed again so probably drove a bit better as the ‘heat’ was off. I cried when I passed I just burst into tears and couldn’t stop like a stupid fanny!

Boulshired · 10/07/2020 10:42

I passed on second attempt but an ex failed five times and his driving instructor advised him to try automatic. Ex was always adamant he would never but decided to give it a try and passed 5 weeks after. Having driven an automatic I cannot understand was we still drive with gears.

Somethingorotherorother · 10/07/2020 10:42

Meeeee! Took me 8 years and 4 goes!

Also, the time i passed was my worst drive, every fail i got one major (usually stalling somewhere stupid) and just two or three minors, when i passed i didn't get any majors (duh) but 12 minors!

DailyFailstinks · 10/07/2020 10:42

Me! I passed fourth time. You’ll get there!

nowtygaffer · 10/07/2020 10:43

My daughter passed on her 4th attempt! I was so proud of her for keeping going. She's a brilliant driver now.You can do it!

motherrunner · 10/07/2020 10:47

Just to add. I failed October 1999 and my instructor said ‘have a couple of months off’ as my 3rd test was the worst.

I then had a week of lessons in the run up, didn’t tell anyone I was going for a test and passed. Think that approach alleviated the stress.

Dontjudgeme101 · 10/07/2020 10:48

You can do it. I passed after taking test 3 times.

greythrow · 10/07/2020 10:48

I rarely like to admit it, but I took 6 tests before I passed. For me it was partly because my dad (I was very young, only 17, and he was paying for it all) kept rescheduling tests as soon as I failed one, saying "oh you'll pass next time". I was wracked with nerves. After the sixth test we changed instructors and the new one was brilliant, he put his foot down and told my dad to back off and I had a month with him just building my confidence back up. We only scheduled the next test when I actually felt ready. Passed that time.
Although my story sounds opposite to @WhiteCliffsBeside it's actually the same thing really, both of us clearly had different ways to manage it but it's the anxiety that needed dealing with.

Wishing you the best of luck with it x

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 10/07/2020 10:48

I passed 4th time. You have just got to keep on going until you pass. Its annoying and expensive but it can be done!!

It can also be done 5th, 6th or 7th - the only time it can't is if you give up! You can do it!!

Echo08 · 10/07/2020 10:50

Me I passed 4th time .I passed 29yrs ago just shy of 21yrs old so quite late starter considering all my friends started learning and passing at 17.
Honestly you will passed .I actually said to my very lovely and he was a lovely examiner at the beginning if I fail this time then i am giving up .I remember him smiling and saying to me have faith in yourself if your instructor thought you were not capable you would not be sat here .
I passed that 4th time because I did what he said I had couple of minors but at the end he said see I told you have faith in your ability .He was an advanced police driving examiner who also did civilian tests he really did put me at ease .Previous three examiners were honestly terrible our centre was known for it .
If it helps I can now fit In a space as big as my car , i am super hot at reversing my job as a community carer involves loads of driving so honed my parking skills over
the years .This is from someone who was going to quit if she failed a fourth time .
Flowers don't give up and don't feel humiliated, my nerves kept getting the better of me but remember your instructor thinks you can do it so have that faith in yourself and go for that 4th rest asap.

5th time - I’ve driven for 20 years, no points on license, 1 minor accident.

amusedbush · 10/07/2020 10:54

I passed third time and I made a mistake at the end of the test which I was sure had cost me. When he told me I'd passed I said, "really?? Thank you!" BlushGrin

StCharlotte · 10/07/2020 10:55

@Undervaluedandsad

5th time - I’ve driven for 20 years, no points on license, 1 minor accident.
Ditto.

I fall to pieces on any practical tests - ballet exams and typing tests in particular.

Good luck next time Smile

Ashhead24 · 10/07/2020 10:55

I passed fifth time, it can be done. It is embarrassing, I'd never not been able to do something before. I got very stressed about it and was making silly mistakes. I took kalms on the morning of the test I passed, whether they did anything who knows but it made me feel more relaxed. I'm still not a massive fan of driving but it really opens up what you can do.

kenandbarbie · 10/07/2020 11:02

I passed 4th time! In fairness I'm a shit driver, but I passed in the end!!!! I did change driving instructor to a retired policeman who used to do police driving training.

zingally · 10/07/2020 11:06

It took me (and my older sister) 5 goes each to pass!! It took my sister's fiancee 13!

Been driving happily, and largely without incident, for 15 years now.

notthemum · 10/07/2020 11:07

Me. I struggle with someone watching over me. Written test no problem, passed easily, finished in ten minutes, didn't say anything until others started to leave though.
1st test = I felt OK but the examiner was horrible and made me feel very uncomfortable.
2nd one = Examiner was lovely I just got myself in such a state that I couldn't concentrate.
3rd one = Same instructor as the first time.
4th one = Same as above.
I looked at him and thought FFS I've failed.
Don't think it was my best drive. He was his usual self, made me reverse round a corner which was halfway down a hill and I stalled trying to get back out. He grinned. I lost it a little, put the car into gear and told him I was going back to the test centre. I was done, couldn't drive with him in the car. Went back to test centre where he said I had passed. WTF ?
Partner at time bought me an automatic which I was not pleased about but first time I drove it I fell in love with it.
Don't drive now (personal choice) but would never go back to manual.

CrayonedWalls · 10/07/2020 11:12

5th time here! There is no shame. You pass when you’re ready. The test environment made me nervous. In the end I had my instructor sit in the back, and that worked.

My husband thinks it’s hilarious but I am a much better, more cautious driver than him and what’s more, I’d had so many lessons by that point that I’m absolutely amazing at parallel parking 😂
