To be upset my friends got me drunk

So this actually happened last summer but it's been playing on my mind lately.

Basically I was at a BBQ at a friends house and pretty much everyone was drinking. I'm not a big drinker and was sticking to soft drinks that night. No reason other than that's what I wanted to do. My friends were all drinking cocktails and they asked if I wanted them to make me some non alcoholic ones. Turns out they were alcoholic. I didn't realise as I couldn't taste the alcohol.
After about 4 or 5 I realised I was starting to feel drunk and confronted them. They confessed and we all ended up arguing. One friend in particular was quite nasty saying I was always boring and they just wanted me to have fun for a change.

I left and things have never been quite the same since.

I was upset because they broke my trust. I was my decision to drink or not and I don't think I should be considered boring because I don't want to get drunk.
Also, they had no way of knowning if I had another reason for not drinking. What if I'd been pregnant or on medication?

AIBU to still feel upset about this nearly a year later?

These are NOT friends I would never give someone alcohol who specifically didn't want it.

Seriously they are bang out of order.

Cocobean30 · 09/07/2020 18:30

That’s awful they are not your friends, I would have cut them out. I don’t drink anymore because it triggers panic attacks (but any reason for not drinking is irrelevant, it’s your choice and your body) if my friends did that I’d cut them out.

That was a nasty trick ilikeme - so unnecessary - just one of those "Haha, I've pulled one over on you" power trip things.

You did the right thing chucking him - he had no respect.

WineIsMyMainVice · 09/07/2020 19:21

That’s as bad as putting drugs in someone’s drink!!
Really sorry this happened to you - I’d be distancing myself from so called ‘friends’ who could do this.

Indeed!, there were a couple of other very minor things he’d done before that, that had set little alarms off in my head so this was just the confirmation I needed that I should finish it. I think I dodged a bullet there!

If they’d done this in a pub I’m fairly sure you could prosecute them

JammyHands · 09/07/2020 22:58

A frightful thing to do. I would even say it's assault. It's your choice what you put in your body. Apart from that, you could have been on medication, had religious reasons for not drinking, had a drink problem, an illness. The list is endless.

unstableunicorn · 09/07/2020 23:12

Absolutely awful, completely out of order. What if you were pregnant, on medication etc? And regardless of that you made a decision not to drink and they didn't respect that, it's as a violation. And calling you boring is horrible, these 'friends' sound like arseholes and you should cut them out

I'd like to hear from the 6% who think op is being unreasonable. Should she not have gone if she didn't want to drink alcohol?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 10/07/2020 09:37

Same, although I like to think it's just fat finger typing, guilty of that myself lol

Possibly those with alcohol problems? or people who think stuff like that is "funny"? either way, if you think this is ok, you are not right in the head.

Destroyedpeople · 10/07/2020 09:41

That's spiking!
Dump them x
