Is this normal?

Sorry for posting here! Hoping to get some fast answers and this topic gets more traffic and I really need some quick advice!

I had a baby 13 weeks ago, had a normal albeit heavy period around eight weeks later, another normal period four weeks later which ended last week. Then two days ago I’ve started bleeding heavily again with clots. I’ve also been feeling really faint and tired (didn’t wake up until 1pm today, lucky my DP was home!) and just feel really heavy in my head and achey. Is this normal after a baby?

Because you have feelings of being unwell alongside this bleeding it would be best to check it out with a doctor either via 111 tonight if you're feeling really unwell or bleeding heavily, or your own GP tomorrow.

Samanabanana · 08/07/2020 21:31

It doesn't sound normal to me (but I've only had a c-sec!). I'd ring your gp tomorrow, or if you're bleeding quite heavily still it might be worth ringing 111 just to be on the safe side. Hope you're ok!

Scaredmum1995 · 08/07/2020 21:31

Thanks both. @Samanabanana I had a c-section too, which is why I’m a bit worried!

Call 111 or your GP. The dizziness with clots is worth getting a check over. Please don't delay. Call now.

BankofNook · 08/07/2020 21:35

How is your temperature? Its really does sound like you could have an infection of some sort.

roxfox · 08/07/2020 21:37

Agree with previous posters- although maybe don't wait till morning and call 111 tonight.

Best wishes op Thanks

Scaredmum1995 · 08/07/2020 21:38

My temperature is 37.4 @BankofNook

My only experience with something similar is when I had sepsis and secondary PPH after a section, I felt very shivery and cold because my temperature was low.

It's probably worth giving 111 a call, they can arrange a call back from a doctor.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 08/07/2020 21:44

With a temperature, feeling unwell and clots I'd definitely get checked out right now. As in tonight.

Scaredmum1995 · 08/07/2020 21:45

Is 37.4 a temp @OoohTheStatsDontLie? It was done orally. I thought it was 37.5 and above?

Ring 111. This is potentially serious.

Murphs1 · 08/07/2020 22:04

Definitely 111, don’t leave it till tomo.

Emeraldshamrock · 08/07/2020 22:06

Don't panic contact your GP tomorrow.
I had erratic heavy periods after my first it settled eventually.

Emeraldshamrock · 08/07/2020 22:08

Sorry I missed your update. Call tonight.

TheBouquets · 08/07/2020 22:08

Definitely ring 111 I have only ever had C Section and it was definitely not like that afterwards

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 08/07/2020 22:09

I think it's not classed as a fever but is an elevated temperature (unless you know your temperature runs on the high side) and there is always margin for error on home thermometers. My daughter gets a temp of around that whenever she has a UTI for example. With the other sysmptoms I don't think its worth taking the risk of not treating it seriously. Please ring 111

It could be a very very early miscarriage if you've been sexually active or it could be something elE or nothing to worry about. I had hemorrhaging at 5 weeks post-birth. It eventually calmed down before I got to hospital and I never did find out what it was but I wish I had

coffeewithmilk · 08/07/2020 22:13

Nurse here - contact the hospital where you had your baby. They are obliged to see you as you are within the timeframe of recently having a baby.
It sounds like you could possibly have retained products; hence the large bleeding with clots. Definitely could be starting an infection - lethargy/dizziness.

Please call them, and call them tonight. I would not put this off until a later time. It's very important you get seen by a medical professional asap

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 08/07/2020 22:13

I'd be worried about retained tissue which can cause sepsis. Definitely call NHS direct for advice

Scaredmum1995 · 08/07/2020 22:43

I called 111 and they’ve told me a clinician will call me back within 6 hours...

OP posts:
Tinyhumansurvivalist · 08/07/2020 22:45

6 hours is too long, can you get to a local emergency department?

HellonHeels · 08/07/2020 22:47

Six hours?! Please do what Coffee suggests and phone the maternity ward where you had your baby Flowers

CostaCosta · 08/07/2020 23:03

I had a PPH 3 weeks after ds was born due to retained placenta. Definitely get checked out.

MrsP2015 · 08/07/2020 23:08

Hope alls ok.
Call them back if they don't call you.
