O. M. G.

Please help me to feel better.

I HATE Facebook! I haven't actively used Facebook for years,but have the Messenger App as I sometimes get the odd message...

Anyway,for some reason,I decided to open the Messenger App and clicked on a conversation from my ex. We haven't spoken for about two years. Then,somehow I managed to accidentally send a thumbs up! I then panicked and then somehow changed the conversation colour?!!! Which came up as 'blanche has changed the conversation colour' and I was then like 'ABORT! ABORT! ABORT!' and then....god knows how....I managed to create a group with him and my other ex!

Oh the shame. I immediately left the group,but now,as I've left it...i seemingly can't get back in to delete it? So they're know in this sad little group together? Wondering why on earth I've suddenly randomly created this group and then left it!

Bloody hell

Oh Yes, and I also put my hands up to adding a 'lol' at the end of a bereavement message many years ago on FB in the early days of text speak, when I mistakenly thought 'lol' meant 'lots of love'!

Worstemailever · 09/07/2020 08:05

@LunaNorth

I reassure myself that, my humiliation, is only a fraction of that endured by that poor lady. Although, I confess to having watched it many times over and it gets funnier each time. Especially her serious composure and enthusiastic arm swinging!

AstridAv · 09/07/2020 08:10

Haha this is brilliant.. sorry OP. I would love to be a silent observer of that conversation!

Mymycherrypie · 09/07/2020 08:13

Well this is the horror story I needed to stop me looking up old exes on fb!!!

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 09/07/2020 08:18

I was in bed laughing so hard at this that I annoyed DP. Showed him the OP’s posts and he laughed until he cried.

FranCan · 09/07/2020 08:44

It wasn't even a casual thumbs up either - it was fucking huge! Took up most of the screen! omg lol

Veenah · 09/07/2020 09:30

This thread has given me a much needed laugh!

I've got two. Years ago in a previous job, I drunkenly kissed a colleague at a work party. Noone else saw and we had a very drunken conversation about how it wouldn't make things awkward at work. I didn't have any interest in him, was angry at myself and my main concern was it not impacting work. Monday morning rolls around, bump into him first thing and he ignores me and then we are in meetings together and he behaves really awkwardly and makes it obvious there's something up. We had never messaged before but on the train home I think about sending him a message to address the awkwardness and try and sort it out. I find him on messenger, just as someone I know comes up and taps my shoulder. I jump and accidently send a massive crying face that basically takes up the entire screen... the worst part was that by the time I'd finished talking to the person who tapped me, he had replied thinking I was devastated that he had made it clear by ignoring me that nothing more was going to happen between us and basically consoling me

Second was my sister who, by way of an unlocked phone bouncing around in her bag, managed to send a few photos to multiple contacts on WhatsApp (through Broadcast apparently?). The photos were of her holding her friend's newborn and one of the contacts was an ex that she had broken up with less than a year previously, like some sort of "I've got something to tell you" announcement...

Roussette · 09/07/2020 09:38

Veenah I felt a bit faint reading your first one Grin

Veenah · 09/07/2020 09:42

Sorry my post had paragraphs when I posted it!!

Roussette · 09/07/2020 09:51

No, I mean the actual mahoosive crying face! Cringing at the thought!

This thread is pure gold.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/07/2020 09:51

@Worstemailever

Someone recently sent me a video link to THAT video clip of the lady with the unfortunate swimsuit malfunction during a limbo contest. Of course I forwarded it straight on to the elderly chap who enquired about my chest of drawers for sale several months prior. I had no idea until I received a small thumbs up and a polite "thank you", which was actually quite disconcerting as he obviously thought that it was intentional on my part!
Oh my god I’m laughing SO hard at that 🤣🤣🤣
Sauvignonismysaviour · 09/07/2020 10:27

Howling at this thread!

The OP; "Bob Smith" as the status; "bet you'd like to get a hold of these puppies" to the nephew; massive crying face to cold shouldered snog!!!

Utterly hilarious - has to be one for classics surely!

@Yester

One of my business clients rang to cancel an appointment because their father had very sadly died unexpectedly. I emailed back sending my condolences. Some how the text message got a weird effect added to it that meant balloons kept floating up saying congratulations and shite happy music played. I completely panicked tried to delete the text and of course sent it. Still feel sick when think about that dreaded send moment.
Hahaha omg that made me laugh very loudly!

@blanche85 I know you were mortified at what you did but honestly, thank you for sharing! You've given so many of us a much needed lift - and the chance to reveal our own social media faux pas into the bargain 😂

I'm so glad I did! I love this thread - I haven't laughed so much in a long time!

This reminds me of another one, not me...a friend posted about a very sad death in her family on Facebook. In the midst of all the sympathy messages, one of her friends posted a GIF of a dancing cactus wearing a sombrero.
MouseBack · 09/07/2020 14:21

Dancing cactus...I'm crying 😂😂😂

Cocolapew · 09/07/2020 14:54

🤣🤣

Sugarhouse · 09/07/2020 15:00

😂😂😂

msflibble · 09/07/2020 15:37

@Worstemailever my entire bikini came off on a ride at a Portuguese water park once. The place was full of teenage boys who were literally pointing and scream laughing at me. I've never worn a bikini since - it's one piece swimsuits all the way these days! Worrying to think even those might not be safe....

Hangingover · 09/07/2020 15:38

Howling at this thread

KetoWinnie · 09/07/2020 15:44

Oh yeh we have all done the dancing sombrero on fb move!!!

A former colleagues posted that he was in a gallery, he was with "Anna" and i remember thinking ooooh who is Anna? And is he trying make Anna think he has a cultural bone in his body. Then my friend got back from the bar and i stuffed my phone back in my bag. Later i discovered id posted a huge laughing fox on his post, which all of his brand new girlfriend's friends also saw. He didnt thank me for that.

KetoWinnie · 09/07/2020 15:56

@CalmdownJanet

They are in this sad little group together made me laugh out loud 😂
Yeh. The I dated a loser club. Obviously the first wouldnt know about the second. But did you ever mention number one to number two?
FlyRobinFly · 09/07/2020 15:59

I have a horrendous one. Managed to block out the trauma of it but this thread brought it all back up again, so thanks very much for that OP Grin

I have been guilty of Facebook stalking DP’s ex on occasion. She’s expecting a baby with her partner. Last month she posted a 4D scan photo and I was having a little snoop in the comments, all just “Oh how lovely!” type things. While I was scrolling I heard a weird sound effect but didn’t think anything of it. About half an hour later in the bath I think “What WAS that sound effect?” and remember it’s the one that plays when you post a comment. Absolutely shat myself. Luckily had phone with me in the bath so was able to get on to doing damage control straight away. Saw that I’d posted a fucking massive vomit emoji under the scan photo. Instantly blocked her and all those in the comment thread and then deactivated my account for a week.

FlyRobinFly · 09/07/2020 16:02

Though having said that, when me and DP first got together I did get a like on my profile pic from her that was immediately deleted, I assume in a blind panic. So she knows such things can happen unintentionally!
