What the heck is this all about.

So I keep receiving invitations to online 'parties' and invites to join Younique and Scentsy from people who have these awful pretentious slogans attached to their FB saying they are

Inspiring People To Be The Best
Version Of Themself
- what by selling people poxy stinky wax things and make up...... seriously do people actually buy into this crap?

Isn't this just another MLM thing .... heck there were loads of these in the 80's.... fortunately I haven't seen any for years and now all of a sudden there are numerous people trying to 'inspire me' - save me from the wax scent sellers and make up brigade

YABU - they really are inspiring people

YANBU ---- it's crap marketing to suggest selling OVERPRICED pongy scents inspire

Footnote:

Are these people my friends or are they just trying to flog their tat to me?

Qwicks · 05/07/2020 20:32

I was just about to report you for touting for business Grin

ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:34

How have I been missed out (how did I go under their radar for so long)....

Why are these products suddenly being sold by 'inspirational women' WTF - how does trying to flog people stuff on facebook make you THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF exactly?

OP posts:
ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:35

@Qwicks

Ha Ha - I don't buy the crap and would never suggest anyone else does either.... can get much cheaper stuff that smells just as foul in local shop

OP posts:
Mooey89 · 05/07/2020 20:37

So many more people have joined MLMs since lockdown 😭 fucking vultures

Soubriquet · 05/07/2020 20:43

Same!
ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:43

@Mooey89

I get that some people need money and it appears to be an easy way (on paper) to make a quick buck....but they are selling the stuff to their family and close friends and then radiate out to their social media friends...... earning commission by selling overpriced rubbish mainly...

I wouldn't dream of approaching someone I liked and suggesting they purchased overprice crap from me so I could get some commission.....

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 05/07/2020 20:44

I’ve got people now all blabbing about “supporting friends” and make sure I buy from them before supporting shops.

I am not going to spend £20 on some soap when I can get much nicer from the shop!

SunshineOutdoors · 05/07/2020 20:45

I think they mainly make money by convincing people to do the same as them but on the next rung down. It’s awful.

ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:45

@Soubriquet

Sorry - my thread title is misleading - I didn't think - I definitely DO NOT want people to buy this stuff... support your local traders/shops etc but don't support the commission vultures that aim to 'inspire' you by ripping you off....

OP posts:
ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:47

@SunshineOutdoors

I totally agree with you, it is awful.

I will be declining all invitations to online "parties" from any 'friends' and really if they want to flog me this overpriced tatt so they can earn commission they really they are not much of a friend and most definitely NOT inspiring at all.

Gingerkittykat · 05/07/2020 20:48

There are loads of MLMs still around, it's not a thing of the past.

Your friends will be sticking to a set script set by the MLM bots who are their uplines, think crap about supporting mums, talk about taking control of their own destiny and stories about mums who can now work from home and treat their kids.

Hopefully your friends will give up soon when they realise they have been sucked into a scheme where 99% of those who sign up lose money.

FilthyforFirth · 05/07/2020 20:52

Haha I came on here to tear you a new one, but yes couldnt agree more! Awful things that should be illegal. I feel sad to think that lockdown has sucked so many more people in.

ParkEndStreet · 05/07/2020 20:56

Juice Plus (AKA Miss Ambition) is one of the latest on my newsfeed - all my friend's fun posts have been replaced by hun bot activity.

ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:56

@FilthyforFirth

Sorry - I don't support this MLM crap at all.... I have only just been sent invites... dredging the barrel with me because I won't be buying any of it....

I read the poor girls page and it's all about being a 'businesswoman'... 'inspiring others' and being the best she can be.... lot's of sicky sicky posts from others up the line telling her basically to sell more and more of the crap to climb the ladder of success

VOMIT INDUCING

ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 20:59

@Gingerkittykat

Sadly the ones that are often suckered into these MLM things are the ones that cannot afford to lose their money.

It really is sad and it's a shame that they get drawn in by the lies of earning lots and taking control of their lives - sad

I feel sad for them BUT saying that not sad enough to buy any of it and encourage it though

Soubriquet · 05/07/2020 21:05

Oh no! I wasn’t saying you were saying that

It’s just what people on my fb who do MLM say

aNiceBigCupOfFuCoffee · 05/07/2020 21:10

Yanbu, I've had so many invites to Ann Summers, Younique, Avon, you name it, I've been invited. Worse still, several of my friends have started selling Facebook tat that they seem to expect everyone to buy or at least share (has anyone ever wanted a terracotta plant pot decorated like it has been vajazzled*? No? Really?!) It feels mean of me to keep ignoring their invites and pleas to buy and share - and if someone made something I was interested in I absolutely would do it - but it also just annoys me. I'd never say so in real life though Grin

*Not actual example though I have previously seen these on Facebook

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/07/2020 21:15

Oh! I've so had enough of it.

I may have accidentally posted a link to the history of the Mooney cult on one such invitation.

I was told off by lots and lots of vaguely amused people for being rude enough to reply in a vein they were to scared to.

And I have lost a SM friend!

ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 21:21

@aNiceBigCupOfFuCoffee

I know.... we are all too British perhaps to say what we think in real life... do the people selling this crap actually realise that a lot of us think OMG whenever they send out the begging emails - please buy from me etc... or the invites to their 'parties' ?

I ingore or delete and hope that they might get the message and then another invite for some other MLM thing pops up a few weeks later.

They put so much time and effort in the income must be pennies for the constant messaging. Still someone must buy this stuff... probably their dear old mum and granny who hasn't got two pennies to spare buys in sympathy?

OP posts:
ResumetonormalASAP · 05/07/2020 21:23

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Good for you.

I am going to tell the woman that I don't need scensy to be inspired and younique is also not required .....

I have posted that stupid posts and shares come to me to die..... well MLM invites to buy also come to me to die

OP posts:
TravellingSpoon · 05/07/2020 21:23

My cousin has just started Avon and Partylite and keeps adding me to groups about raffles, bingo and online parties. I don't have the time for this nor do I want stinky candles but I don't have the heart to tell her.

aNiceBigCupOfFuCoffee · 05/07/2020 21:29

@ResumetonormalASAP yes I always worry that their general buyers will be people who can't afford it but also don't have the heart to say as much! I understand money is tight for lots of people so I can see why people are trying to make more but unfortunately the people they're marketing to are likely in exactly the same boat and all they're doing is making their friends feel a bit awkward or guilty.
I, like you, just delete and hope for the best but they always pop back up!
