Media whores?

custardbear · 05/07/2020 19:53

I'm so fed up with:-
Peter Andre and his GP wife did XYZ to be parental heros
Meghan Markle feels so 'blah blah blah'
Katie price shagged yet another bloke
Amanda Holden flaunts herself and bores everyone yet again
Beckham bunch do yet another yawn activity
I remember my dad, years ago mentioning media whore which I though was a horrible thing to say ... now I'm probably his age when he said it to me and I'm agreeing with him - albeit he's been dead 10'years
I'm feeling very 🙄

You do realise these people aren't going to the media - the media are digging for information about them without their consent by stalking them and harassing the people who know them.
They're closer to media rape victims than media whores because a whore makes money, a rape victim does the same thing but doesn't give consent or get paid.

nancy75 · 05/07/2020 19:59

DrPatient - are you having a laugh? From that list do you really think the likes of Katie Price & Peter Andre don’t give consent or get paid? Both of them would sell their granny for a photo op

Thesearmsofmine · 05/07/2020 19:59

I think there is a mixture of people, some actively pursue the media and paps, let them know where they will be, deliberately post things on social media for attention etc, it’s sad really.
Others don’t do those things but are so famous that the press dig around for anything they can on them.

GinDaddyRedux · 05/07/2020 20:00

@DrPatient

I'm sorry but this is just patently untrue and I think your statement is potentially offensive to rape victims.

Markle uses Sunshine Sachs as her PR. The media don't have to "dig" for information - she is well known for placing stories through friends to People magazine with which she seems to have a relationship.

Peter Andre? Give me strength. Well known for making deals with ITV, OK magazine. Yes he gets papped a few times but 90% of the time he arranges it. It's how he makes his money.

Katie Price of course is the queen of this. She is encouraged by her PR team to put out negative stories because it keeps the "narrative" going, makes people click on articles, buy magazines, keeps her in the news. If Katie Price is always on the "up" it gets boring. So now we have "Katie in bankruptcy crisis", "Katie isn't allowed to have her kids at a photoshoot" etc. These aren't intrusive pap stories. This is sold fodder.

OP, I don't mean to be critical but you sound like the intended audience - you've absorbed the narratives, you're "fed up" with them, etc.

GinDaddyRedux · 05/07/2020 20:01

Also what is all this "'whores", "rape victims"....can't we describe PR moves from celebrities without using incendiary, denigrating and/or potentially triggering language?

custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:04

@GinDaddyRedux - I don't usually click on these stores, I click around them. But think as I'm on lockdown and working from home I'm reading more crap online rather than buying a 'proper' paper as I try not to go out unnecessarily ... I perhaps don't usually see too much of this tripe but feel a bit surrounded by it at the moment

Bless your naivety. Grin

Peter Andre, Katie Price and Amanda Holden have personal photographers and arrange photoshoots to sell to the media.

Megan Markle organises for her 'friends' to leak information to the press.

The Beckhams release all their own info via their own social media.

LochJessMonster · 05/07/2020 20:04

Media whores is harsh.
They are in the public eye and need to continue to be in the papers etc to earn money.
It’s not like realistically Katie Price can get a job in Tescos or Peter Andre can become a waiter at Nando’s.
Fan and paparazzi would make it impossible.

BigBadVoodooHat · 05/07/2020 20:08

I'm so fed up with:- [...]

You don’t have to read any of this. I don’t. I loathe the shallowness and fakery of celebrity ‘culture’, so I steer clear of all magazines and websites that cover this sort of shite.

They only publish this stuff because people click on it/buy it. If everyone ignored it they'd all disappear up their own arses.

custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:18

@LochJessMonster - I kind of get the feeling they're 'selling their private lives for money' to get income but to also push themselves and their publicity - hideous behaviours, all for cash and publicity - I can't think of a nice describing word for them - whore isn't nice but to be honest it does kind of explain what they're doing for money 🤔

OP posts:
custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:20

@BigBadVoodooHat - yes I know I should ignore, but lock down means I'm more online than perhaps normal so I see this tripe flicking up on my news feeds .. perhaps I need a more intellectual newsfeed platform!! 😆

Well some are, plenty of celebs manage to avoid it whereas lots of the D list need press/content to maintain their fame.

DestinationFkd · 05/07/2020 20:24

Just scroll right past anything sleb like most others do.

derta · 05/07/2020 20:25

👆🏼

custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:28

@DestinationFkd - yes I try to but it's just real news is littered and interjected with this drivel - it would be nice if the media had different Types of news:-

Real news
Celebrity whoring (someone give me
A better word and I'll use it!)
Journalistic drivel
etc ...

OP posts:
AWryGiraffe · 05/07/2020 20:35

Where are you getting your news?

Idontlikewednesdays · 05/07/2020 20:36

@DrPatient you’re deluded if you think that these people don’t contact the media every time they leave the house. Do you think it’s just coincidence that the paparazzi just happen to be on the same road whenever these pathetic people leave the house. It’s like a form of prostitution but worse still they involve their kids.

TARSCOUT · 05/07/2020 20:39

and yet you've started a post about it?

GinDaddyRedux · 05/07/2020 20:39

@custardbear

You said it would be nice if the media had different Types of news:-

I mean....I don't know what to say really.

What do you class as "real news?" There's plenty of it in today's Observer, Sunday Telegraph, Sunday Times, FT Weekend etc. I'm not being a snob, I'm just genuinely trying to say it's out there.

If you mean online newspapers such as MailOnline, they're geared for clicks and are a fantastically engineered platform that delivers impressive returns for annoying pop-up merchants advertisers. But yeah you'll struggle sometimes to find the real news amongst the Richard Littlejohn "journalistic drivel", or the endless stories about Liz Hurley wearing a bikini for the 60th time this year.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 05/07/2020 20:41

Drpatient If you dont think they go to the media themselves then have a watch of the jade goody programme which was on channel 4 last winter. It was really interesting for that aspect. How she was so linked to the papers and one of her "best friends" was a photographer.
I think it's a sad life in some respects. That all your focus and energy is about "keeping current"

custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:42

@AWryGiraffe - I click on the news platforms on my phone - maybe I need something more intellectual! 😆 guess the real
News is just diluted with crap and desperate celebrities trying to get some cash

OP posts:
custardbear · 05/07/2020 20:48

@GinDaddyRedux I think maybe I'm just not clued up on what media platforms to use as I usually just read a paper, happy to hear of any good platforms without drivel .. or at least too much on them lol

OP posts:
GinDaddyRedux · 05/07/2020 20:49

@custardbear

I don't get it...your phone has inbuilt news platforms? Or did you download an app?

Which newspapers online are you reading? And which paper you mentioned is the one you're reading?

Ghostlyportrait · 05/07/2020 20:56

The pandemic has highlighted just how needy, vacuous and ridiculous these celebs are. Thirsty D listers putting out their wheelie bins in ball gowns, pouting on their staircases with bra tops, leather leggings and 5” heels, various Beckhams feeling blessed while icing a fairy cake etc.

Anyone thinking these poor souls are trying to live a quiet life while being sprung upon by paps are naive. Celebs who truly do want a quiet life manage to lead one. The thick as mince, pointless celebs who appear in crappy papers and magazines spare no expense in making sure their every pout and hairstyle change are plastered across the tabloids.

ShinyMe · 05/07/2020 20:58

It is extremely easy to avoid hearing about all these people, if you aren't interested.
