Considering most teachers are Left leaning hypocrites it really doesn’t surprise me that they have been moon lighting.
I don't see the connection. Hmm
KaptainKaveman · 05/07/2020 16:06

'Left leaning hypocrites' Grin

Love that, User14715 ! damn those commies eh?

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 05/07/2020 16:06

The children have been badly let down during this pandemic by some teachers.

Children, teachers and schools have been badly let down by the Government for years before the pandemic. It's only become apparent now because it's widespread. Because it affects you. The difference in progress, opportunities etc has been massive and a "thing" for ages.Put the blame where it belongs.

Btw, teachers don't get to decide their working hours, when the school is open, for what year groups, the method for remote teaching etc.

KaptainKaveman · 05/07/2020 16:06

Curse the commies and may they burn in hellfire!

SunflowerProsecco · 05/07/2020 16:07

I know lots of people who have 2 jobs.
Why is it wrong?

elenacampana · 05/07/2020 16:07

It’s from the Mirror = I’m not even clicking on the link.

How unpleasant.
DrPatient · 05/07/2020 16:09

The vast, vast majority of full-time employment contracts either say you're prohibited from participating in other employment or that you must seek your employer's consent before doing so. It's a standard clause that most people don't even acknowledge is there. This isn't a "teachers" thing - many people work outside of their main employment against the terms of their contract but rarely does anyone actually give a shit.

Why are some people so bloody greedy ?

FancyAnOlive · 05/07/2020 16:14

I'm a teacher. Like quite a few of my colleagues, in normal times I suppplement my income with some private tutoring. I usually teach two kids for an hour each after school each week, in lockdown I've been doing this over Zoom instead. Doesn't seem like a sackable offence to me...

FancyAnOlive · 05/07/2020 16:17

My union has also not encouraged me not to teach, and it is the biggest union.

hashtagbollocks · 05/07/2020 16:18

fancy
which union is that and did they say why they're discouraging teaching?

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 05/07/2020 16:19

Why is it greedy?

lazylinguist · 05/07/2020 16:25

Can someone please tell me why it's greedy to do some additional paid work to supplement the pay you get for doing your main job, as long as you have time to do both?
Many teachers, quite a lot of them part time and the second earner in their families, may well have partners who have lost their jobs during the pandemic or are furloughed. It's not surprising they are trying to find ways to earn more money.

Agreed it’s not unique to teachers. I highly doubt there’s a plethora of teachers who are tutoring during working hours. However, while I agree some people do additional work, how many do it during their contracted working hours? The small minority of teachers doing this are wrong.
MrsHerculePoirot · 05/07/2020 16:33

“ As a side note a friend who works in the state school system has said that teachers have been actively encouraged by the unions not to teach and dissuade at all costs in order to negotiate a better pay deal.“

Could you find out for us which union this is please? I’m in one of the biggest ones and they definitely didn’t not ever say this.

OverTheRainbow88 · 05/07/2020 16:34

Why are people so bitchy? Sad we live in such a world.- as if there isn’t enough sadness and pain in the world already... I know let’s argue with total strangers!! We should support and encourage one another not put total strangers down!

Life is hard enough at the moment.

dreamingofsun · 05/07/2020 16:37

not read all this....but cant believe some people think its ok to take other paid employment during the time that you are paid to do another job. if most people did this they would be sacked. u cannot do 2 jobs at the same time and if u try to then you are working outside your job contract. just because they arent doing any formal teaching doesnt change the situation - they are not making them selves available to do their jobs.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 05/07/2020 16:39

@UmbrellaHat Do you need a tutor? If so what subject?

I only take a max of two per year. Turn everyone else away. With exams in Autumn Term, the demand for tutors is going to skyrocket in August.

If you are looking for a tutor I strongly recommended you only use those who have actually taught the syllabus and have a clear understanding of the assessment criteria. So ideally pick someone who has exam board marking experience and can actually prove it.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 05/07/2020 16:41

What about nurses and doctors who do agency work?

What if teachers are teaching their day job during the day and then offering tutoring after school?
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 05/07/2020 16:46

@Singlebutmarried - can you please ask your 'friend' what union that is? I am in the NEU and I certainly have not been told 'not to teach'.

It is important that we have clarity about which union said 'not to teach'.

piperatthegates · 05/07/2020 16:46

Do people also have a problem with firefighters, many of whom have second and even third jobs completely unconnected with firefighting?

ilovesooty · 05/07/2020 16:47

@hashtagbollocks

fancy which union is that and did they say why they're discouraging teaching?
Did you even read that post properly?
