You stated you would get more (intelligence, logic?) from a chimp, echt.

Your comment was awful. I disagreed with you; I did not deserve that. Nor did I deserve the passive aggressive daffodils. Teachers do not have a hive mind.

It is ridiculous that teachers are insisting they have the right to be upset about every thread that carelessly mentions a teacher, yet I have no right to be upset about having my intelligence compared to a primate (and mine apparently coming out lacking!)

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:00

I’m derailing the thread because I’m upset and angry about it and I don’t think it’s acceptable at all.

ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 14:00

@darkcaramel

I’m not pleased. I’m really rather upset, actually, that the comment has been defended.

Had you believed the comment was wrong, you would have said so, given that you didn’t hesitate to tell me I was wrong.

I told you that factually you were in error.
HipTightOnions · 07/07/2020 14:04

They aren’t though.

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:04

sooty yes, I know. I don’t think I was in error as it happens: the difference between “you are as thick as a chimp” and “you are a chimp” is so negligible as to be non existent, but that’s by the by. The point is that you did support it, whether you think you did or not.

ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 14:05

@HipTightOnions

Agreed. Another factual inaccuracy.
darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:05

Well, rather a lot of people think that they do, hip, and I do agree with them. I agree this thread was goady, though, but I do agree with jellycats posts too.

ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 14:06

Your inference. Your responsibility.
HipTightOnions · 07/07/2020 14:07

Show me - one example will do - where any teacher has said that, or something like it.

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:08

If you have nothing better to do than to note down my ‘factual inaccuracies’ sooty may I suggest a hobby? Hmm

It is certainly not factually inaccurate that since lockdown has started there have been near constant posts from teachers complaining about ‘teacher bashing.’ It is also not factually inaccurate to say that there have been an increased number of posts complaining about schools, so they are obviously in response to this. What I have suggested, which apparently puts me at a level of intelligence below that of an ape, is that we stop taking these personally and consider them in the specific terms they are posted with - in other words, if poster x is complaining about her child’s teacher, don’t take it personally, it is not about you.

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:09

Do an advance search for teacher bashing.

Agreed, but if poster y (or, rather, posters a - z) is complaining about “teachers”, isn’t that a bit different though?

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:11

On that logic, sooty, we can use whatever terms we like towards people. If I said someone was looked like dog-rough, I really am starting to think you’d insist it was clearly a compliment as some people like dogs Hmm

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:12

I’m not the one who has been eye wateringly offensive.

Don’t use racist insults to insult other posters.

It really isn’t that difficult not to do it.

pooiepooie25 · 07/07/2020 14:13

@FrippEnos

pooiepooie25

Your "friend" is looking for gullible fools that they can troll.

FrippEnos Thank fuck not my friend! I was quoting the poster as saying it was utter bullshit!
ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 14:18

I'm working, @darkcaramel. I'm having a break. I don't need a hobby because I'm capable of distinguishing between fact and perception.

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:23

I don’t think you can sooty, or actually, I believe you can, but that you don’t want to. I’m fairly sure that if someone used the term ‘chimp’ disparagingly in your day to day life you would not condone it. Or perhaps you would, who knows.

ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 14:26

I believe you can, but you don't want to

As I said, that's your perception and your responsibility.

darkcaramel · 07/07/2020 14:31

You need to take responsibility, not me.

Do not claim that the long history and connotations of comparing people to apes, chimps, gorillas, is somehow my ‘perception.’

The comment was wrong. It should not have been made.

‘You are right and I withdraw the ‘chimp’ comment but I still think your post was ridiculous because XXX’ would have been perfectly acceptable.

We do not use some words. Not because of how people ‘perceive’ them, because they are ignorant and offensive and wrong.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 07/07/2020 14:36

Still waiting to find out what @UmbrellaHat does for a living. Aside from all the volunteering, charity work and help in the community, of course.

And for the record, I can't help feeling that a lot of the teacher bashing is coming from people who were surprised by just how hard it was to try and teach their own children over the past few months, and how much they resented it. They're projecting their own guilt about this straight on to teachers. A long hard look in the mirror would be more useful.

FrippEnos · 07/07/2020 14:37

@pooiepooie25

Apologies, It should have been "The friend" not your.

FrippEnos · 07/07/2020 14:39

UmbrellaHat

I'm still waiting for evidence that the articles are actual fact instead of the usual made up rubbish.

xsquared · 07/07/2020 14:43

Well, this thread has taken an unusual turn. I see that Umbrella has only commented a handful of times rather than actively engage in her own thread.

This is nothing more than a goady thread to wind teachers up for OP's amusement, but it seems to have worked.

echt · 07/07/2020 14:47

Quite.

I have reported this thread twice on the thread title alone, to no avail.

Hmm
