Cheer me up please! Bought a £90 light fitting & smashed it before its even gone up!

Fitter is coming today at 3!! Mad dash to find a replacement that I won't be paying £90 for lol!

@MsEllany

Omg I’m sorry *@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb* but I did lol at your addition of ‘and then I glued my thumb to the mantle piece’ Grin

What made it (even) worse is I was alone in the house and my phone was on the other side of the room so I had to stand there for hours for DH to come home. He eventually managed to detach my thumb with nail polish remover and hot water.

Luckily he thought it was funny (although the cat thing was sad and my thumb hurt like fuck for days) If I was married to myself I would think I was a massive knob and want a divorce.

Bought a lovely t shirt from hush, splashed it with bleach the first time I wore it

hadtojoin · 01/07/2020 12:50

Bought an expensive (for me) pair of levi jeans and put them on the tray under the pushchair. Got back to the car and they were missing, retraced my steps as they had obviously dropped out, got to the shop and the service counter lady said someone had just brought them in and got a cash refund as the receipt was still in the bag. I have never put a receipt in a bag since.

My Dad bought a wardrobe/over bed cupboards/wardrobe set of furniture from MFI. If you're not old enough to remember, the DIY instructions from MFI make IKEA's, or cheap Chinese electronics handbooks, look like something from the Campaign For Plain English.

My Dad is the most mild mannered man you'd ever meet, never even swears and doesn't raise his voice ever. So when we heard very loud angry roaring, banging and crashing upstairs, we all thought it had collapsed on him and injured him. Nope, he'd just got so frustrated with putting the damn thing together, he'd lost it and starting jumping up and down on it, smashing it in a rage!

LGY1 · 01/07/2020 12:51

@Thisismytimetoshine Yep, I’ve admitted defeat now and never buying another one!

icelollycraving · 01/07/2020 12:53

YSL handbag with a bonus when I worked in Harvey Nix. Used it maybe twice. Got really pissed and it ended up in a champagne bucket. It was suede and the ice buggered it. Took it to a dry cleaner's who ruined it beyond repair. I was both furious with myself, them and the world in general. I kept it for years in it's protector bag.

MmeSzyszkoBohusz · 01/07/2020 12:54

Not me, but my dad... I was 18 and bought a double bass with some money left to me by my lovely grandad (I know... I had delusions of being a professional musician and had played a hired one for years). We managed to get it into the (ancient estate) car to take it home, all fine.

Drove home - parked - still fine. I watched my dad carefully manoeuvre the double bass out of the car, then pick it up by the case straps to bring it inside. One of the straps broke... I can still hear the noise it made as it hit the ground. A slightly musical crunching sound.

Fortunately, the person I bought it from also did repairs. I still have it, although it's mostly ornamental these days. And I have never mentioned it to my dad since it came back from being fixed.

This is such a stressful thread to read. I’m a very clumsy person but thankfully haven’t had anything as bad as the responses happen to something brand new. I would be crying too.

Bought a gorgeous lipsy white dress. Back then I was into fake tanning and got fake tan on it. On a positive note 8 months letter I found a specialist stain remover for fake tan and the stain was removed. Cant remember what I did with that dress.

Elphame · 01/07/2020 12:59

Lovely silk summer dress - cost an absolute fortune I couldn't really afford but I treated myself.

The very first time I wore it for summer afternoon drinks in a pub garden with friends, a random child ran past with a glass of coke, tripped and fell and the entire contents went over me.

Dress was ruined (child ran off and I couldn't find the parents)

startalovetrain · 01/07/2020 12:59

I got a Nintendo switch after weeks of them being out of stock and being bought in bulk by scalpers.

Second day, I dropped it on the kitchen tile and it basically snapped in half Blush

Bluewavescrashing · 01/07/2020 13:01

These make me feel a bit sick!

DH spilt paint on my new sheepskin slippers AND broke a new kitchen knife from a lovely set in the same hour once. I made a great show of using his bank card to replace them both. He was more careful with my stuff after that!

MrsMcCarthysFamousScones · 01/07/2020 13:03

Quite recent. Spent months deciding on new flooring for the kitchen. Waited several weeks for it to be laid. Fitter did an excellent job, it looked lovely. We ripped it moving the fridge back in.

DuaLipa95 · 01/07/2020 13:07

I'd bought a new outfit, including expensive boots that I'd wanted for ages. When I got home I put them on the kitchen counter and totally forgot to take them upstairs. When I got up in the morning my rottweiler had managed to get the bag and had chewed everything to shreds. I couldn't help but laugh to be honest, it was my fault as I knew he could grab stuff off the bench, I was stupid for leaving them there!

TimeWastingButFun · 01/07/2020 13:09

We managed to scratch a 60" television while putting it up... It's only noticeable when it's off or very dark, but I know it's there!

gigchuckedout56 · 01/07/2020 13:09

When DD had just turned 3 all she wanted to buy DH for his xmas present was a ceramic Christmas tree shared pen she found in a garden centre, a great clumsy, ugly thing but it was the first present she'd ever chosen herself and she was so proud and excited to give it to him for weeks.

When wrapping it on xmas eve I scolded her for messing around with it "in case she damaged it". Cue her dropping it on the floor and the star snapping off Sad I felt so guilty as there was no time to get another one, no super glue in the house and she howled in disappointment and was really sad when she gave it to him the next day Sad.

We glued the star on again a few days later but at some point it must have snapped off as we found it a few weeks ago in the kitchen drawer with the star missing and her eyes welled up with tears again (she's nearly 6 now) at the memory, I don't think she'll ever forget it

smoothieooo · 01/07/2020 13:09

Not me, but DS2 whilst on holiday in Greece, splurged the allowance his DGPs had given him on a hideous dolphin snowglobe/paperweight. I will never forget his tears of anguish as it smashed to smithereens on the floor of our holiday apartment within minutes of returning. At the time, I would have given one of my bodily organs for him to feel better as he was so distraught.

TimeWastingButFun · 01/07/2020 13:12

I've just remembered a time when I was in a very crowded bar (outside) in London. The tables were light as a feather and and in squeezing through to my chair I slightly the neighbouring one up with my bag. The neighbours' fresh round of drinks went all over them, in particular a very expensive soft leather jacket and a bag that looked like it cost a fortune. I offered to pay for specialist cleaning (thinking it would probably cost an absolute fortune) and they were super nice about it and absolutely refused. Phew!! Felt sorry for them though...

destinasia · 01/07/2020 13:15

Got a brand new gazebo the day of the storms the other week. Forgot to take it down at night. It lasted less than 24 hours.

PennyNotSoWise · 01/07/2020 13:18

I do cross stitching and decided to do a massive intricate stitch as a gift for my lovely dad. Spent a fortune on all the threads and took me 9 months to finish it.

Just ONE day after I'd finally finished it, I remembered DP had bought me a slush puppy drink and saved it in the freezer for me because I hadn't wanted it at the time.

Got it out of the freezer, sat back down admiring my badass work (I'd been getting ready to frame it) and squeezed the plastic cup to loosen the drink/ice off the sides. The cup obliterated and the ice splattered all over the cross stitch, dying it blue and red all over. I was heartbroken.

Tried washing it out but it wasn't having it. I showed my dad and promised I'd make him a new one, but he graciously accepted it anyway and acts like he can't see the drink stains all over it, bless him. (I bet he doesn't show it off to anyone though 😂)

ShadowMane · 01/07/2020 13:19

@Persiaclementine

I didnt buy it but got a beautiful gift of expensive brand new baby clothes when my son was born, I put them in the wash and didnt realise that a red cushion cover was in the wash also,so I had to throw away all these never warn baby clothes as they'd gone pink or a purple colour. Awful, I cried so much.
why would you throw them away ?
UnicornAndSparkles · 01/07/2020 13:20

Popped to the off license to buy 2 bottles of wine, came home and managed to smash both whilst getting out of the car. Rivers of wine ran down the drive, along with my tears.

Or you could have bought him a new one?! Far less invasive...
ImRealHonest · 01/07/2020 13:22

Spent about £100 on expensive baubles one Christmas.

Bought a real tree at the same time.

Put the baubles on the backseat of the car so they didn’t get damaged in the boot. Tree didn’t fit in the boot. Put the back seat down in the car. Onto the baubles.

One survived. 15 years on, it still has pride of place on my tree each year as the ‘ard bastard that survived

Cherryup · 01/07/2020 13:23

I treated myself to Coco Mademoiselle, got home, took it out of the bag and dropped it on the tiled floor. Smashed to pieces. I dabbed it on off the floor, whilst trying not to cut myself, then cleaned it up whilst wanting to weep.
