Yes!

My in-laws bought me a beautiful leaves and strawberry bowl and, before I had even unwrapped it, I put it down on the stairs and it smashed😩. I looked into having it fixed but it would have cost more than buying a new one (about £35 so not really expensive but still very annoying)!

Bought a small bottle of expensive skin care from my beautician. It was some kind of retinol product.

Was about 45 EUR and had a dropper/pipette top.

First night of using it, didn't screw the top back on properly, cat jumped up and knocked it over.

Didn't notice till morning. All gone.

Shipped a beautiful ceramic dish from the UK to the Middle East. 3 year old DS picked it up the box, unwrapped all the bubble wrap and packaging and promptly dropped it on the tiled floor.

I've scratched a car getting it onto the drive the first time I brought it home. Thankfully it was only a £800 Punto I bought to see me through uni after I had my beloved Micra stolen. I was still very angry at myself!

My mum bought me some expensive new glasses when I was a teenager. I went out with them that evening and got drunk and left them in the bar. Called them up the next morning but they hadn't been handed in
My mum was furious and had to march me into the opticians the next day and had to explain to them I'd lost the very expensive glasses I bought the previous day and needed a new pair Grin

When I try to cut out the itchy clothes label from a new top, I end up cutting through the fabric too. Done it loads of times, I never, ever learn.

Very expensive Ralph Lauren jumper with cream floaty bits, like a floaty blouse sleeve, coming from the wrist holes. It looked lovely and I saved for months and months to buy it as a treat after an upsetting health diagnosis. I first wore it on Christmas day, accidentally draped the floaty bits in my gravy at dinner. It wash a handwash only top and nothing would get it out. On top of that, after the gravy got on it, i tried to pull the sleeves up, popping the buttons off that held the sleeves together. I still have it, but can't really wear it anymore and I feel sad whenever I see it in the wardrobe, but I can't bring myself to bin it. Nearly £200 and I wore it once.

When I was about 8, I bought some sort of game with my pocket money. I thought I was opening the packaging but I opened part of the game and it was broken.

Probably about 50p, but I can still remember how I felt, still upsetting to think about it.

(I need to move on don’t I)

Bought a mug that is an exact replica of the one the angel Aziraphale from Good Omens uses.

The day it arrived I washed it, had one cup of cocoa in it and knocked it off the coffee table. It completely shattered.

Luckily it wasn't expensive so I bought a new one on amazon and had it delivered the next day but I was very cross with myself.

Bought a pair of black jeans while shopping one day. Was going out that night (nowhere fancy just local for a couple of drinks).

Noticed the toilet /bathroom needed a bit of bleach throwing at it when I went for a wee before I left (ds had just learned to use the toilet and his aim was not great), so I gave it all a squirt. Wearing brand new black jeans.

Got to the pub, bought a round, sat down and then noticed a huge yellow splodge on my jeans, tried to brush it off thinking it was dust or something but no. It was bleach. They were approximately 8 hours old at that point and were truly ruined. They went in the bin that night.

Got some money for my 16th birthday, spent most of it in virgin records. Put all my lovely new music and films (about £50 worth in 2015) into one bag.

Went to buy some clothes with my remaining birthday money. Left the bag in the changing room. Went back and it was nowhere to be found. There were many many tears.

Bought a new TV, carried new TV from car to house. Tripped on front doorstep. TV crashed to the ground and smashed. I cried.

Yep beautiful massive Art Deco mirror from John Lewis for our new home. First day it arrived dh smashed the Dyson into it straight after I'd left it upright on the floor having just unwrapped it and taking a look at it leaving a chunk out the corner of it completely damaged.

Being first time buyers and having spent the last few pennies we had on it we decided to buy another and return it to JL in the new ones box pretending it wasn't us who broke it.

When the second one arrived we found ourselves finding our more honest consciences and in the end couldn't bring ourselves to plan and live happily ever after with the two mirrors despite one having a crap corner. Several lessons were learnt from this experience Grin

Dropped a new ipad after one week and cracked the screen.
Dropped my apple watch after about 4 wks of having it and cracked the screen.
Iphone went in the washing machine when I drunkenly loaded my clothes after a heavy night and having thrown up on them
Dog chewed the front corner of a new sofa cushion when it was about 4 weeks old (the sofa not the dog) and cost £3000.
Daughter let go of a helium balloon about 2 seconds after she was given it.

We bought a beautiful table for the decking at the beginning of lockdown.

We had one home made pizza evening and ate it on the decking at the table as the sun went down... Then we had a Sunday brunch at the table and it was beautiful...

During the week a storm was brewing so dh decided to move the table away from one part of the decking to a part where we have slabs and a wall....the glass top slid straight off the table and smashed into ten million pieces...so badly I had to HOOVER them out of the small spaces between the paving slabs Sad

Any time we look at photos now we say "remember that weekend we had a pretty new table" Smile

cookiesocks · 01/07/2020 11:23

Couldn't bring ourselves to carry out the plan *

FuzzyPuffling · 01/07/2020 11:24

Not quite but...My leaving gift from a job was a glass bowl. My boss dropped it on the way to my office and could hear it had broken inside the wrapping, but gave it to me anyway. (The second gift was some earrings....when I didn't have pierced ears)

longtompot · 01/07/2020 11:24

Trying out a new Dremel for filing the dogs nails, didn't put the correct bit on it for the flexi lead and almost melted the bit holder! Thankfully, all ok, cleaned out the excess melted metal and works fine, but it was a real oh shit! moment.

Alarae · 01/07/2020 11:25

Not me, but my DF got a brand new car and was driving it to work for the first time.

Ended up in the middle of a three car crash which completely ruined the front and back of the car.

Wasn't a complete write off though so ended up with a courtesy car for about a week as his was in the garage being fixed.

viques · 01/07/2020 11:25

@Persiaclementine

Oh and my dog broke a brand new ceramic sink only a few hours after we brought it
@Persiaclemantine

There is more, much more, to this story than you have given us.

SarahAndQuack · 01/07/2020 11:26

These are making me wince.

When I was 18 I spent my savings on a lovely bag from Zara - I think it was £80 which was a rip off lot of money back then. Got in the car with my mum (who was running late, not me!) the next day and said 'hang on a minute, mum, I've got my bag strap caught in the door, just let me open it again'. 'Just give it a yank, it'll be fine,' she said. It wasn't.

Also some years ago: bought a lovely pair of Gina heels for £550, which I adored. Wore them out, and my mate had a bad break up and needed someone to walk her home sobbing. Being slightly tipsy I thought nothing of this, walked her home, walked myself home, and got back to find I had scuffed right through into the quick of the heel. Took it to Timpsons (I was young!) who said 'uh, ok' and proceeded to ruin the very delicate satin covering on their machine.

Sad

Reversed my brand new car into a bollard smashing the lights!

Flynn999 · 01/07/2020 11:27

Begged my mum for a tracksuit back in the day. Wore them, ended up in the wash, I then ironed them. Needless to say the iron melted my brand new tracksuit. I was heartbroken.

FatBottomedGurl · 01/07/2020 11:27

I bought my bf a beautiful birthday cake, with intricate fondant character designs etc, all for a special birthday. Cost a fortune (in birthday cake terms). Smooshed it all to death with my boobs while carrying it from the car to the house. The intricate characters lost some limbs and the writing was illegible. lesson learned Grin

longtompot · 01/07/2020 11:29

We bought our first brand new car. Dh drove it home, kids went to get out of the back, it has sliding doors, and scraped it down the wall we had to park next to. Dh was not impressed :(

Mrsjayy · 01/07/2020 11:29

Oh yes bought a bag with birthday money a few years ago got home was showing it off And dropped the can of cola I had all over it totally ruined

CarolFuckinBaskin · 01/07/2020 11:31

Not as expensive as some of these but I was devastated. After a really horrible day I decided to treat myself to a fancy Costa. Bought it, walked out, tripped and threw it all over the pavement. I cried.
