Hi posting on behalf o friend.... “just hoping for some closure on an argument I’m having with my DH (we are gay) I think baby should be called Siegfried (after the recently sadly deceased Siegfried, of Siegfried and Roy) He wants Paul. Who’s right?”

What about Elton and John?

GU24Mum · 30/06/2020 17:25

They're quite different in style! Not sure anyone is right or wrong - Paul is more neutral (boring?); Siegfried always reminds me of "All Creatures Great & Small" (I'm showing my age)...........

tillytoodles1 · 30/06/2020 17:26

Poor kid. Call him Paul.

Prettybluepigeons · 30/06/2020 17:26

Maybe Balonz?

Slanabhaile · 30/06/2020 17:27

@Prettybluepigeons

Maybe Balonz?
Definitely Balonz 😄
sarahfergusonismybitch · 30/06/2020 17:29

Princess (Michael) Miss Pushy (Mitchell)

mumchkin · 30/06/2020 17:31

Ha funny... but it’s a genuine question. Ing is a little... shall we say... theatrical than the other. How do you fairly decide this stuff?

I think its all down to a good ol' drinking game. Last one standing wins

CurtainWitcher · 30/06/2020 17:33

Why would anyone want to name a baby after someone from Siegfried and Roy??!!

DysonFury · 30/06/2020 17:34

Who calls a baby Paul in this day and age? Siegfried is truly horrific though. Poor kid.

IsMiseMorag · 30/06/2020 17:34

Suggest they get a cat which they can call Emperor Siegfried Roy Puss-Moggstanley VIII and create an Instagram account for him.

Then call the actual child Paul and let his own personality do the work of making him stand out from the crowd.

sarahfergusonismybitch · 30/06/2020 17:34

what's Balonz - sorry...

birdwatching · 30/06/2020 17:35

sorry, you cannot call him Siegfried. Call him Paul!

sarahfergusonismybitch · 30/06/2020 17:36

Maybe Pauline

iklboo · 30/06/2020 17:36

Siegfried reminds me of All Creatures Great And Small too.

Paul is a bit meh (even though it's my dad's name).

If you're theatrical you could go for Liberace? Wink

Laurence (Olivier)
John (Gielgud)
Richard (Burton / Harris)
Oliver (Reed)
Peter O'Toole)

ladygracie · 30/06/2020 17:38

Slightly off topic but when did Siegfried die? Wikipedia says Roy died in May but Siegfried is still alive.

simonisnotme · 30/06/2020 17:42

awful names

RichPetunia · 30/06/2020 17:45

None of those names. Keep looking.

Nousernameforme · 30/06/2020 17:47

I would go Siegfried could shorten it to Ziggy.
Not Paul If he wants something more traditional and short then Jack is still good popular without being overwhelming probably only one or two in the year group

PicklePig31 · 30/06/2020 18:03

@IsMiseMorag I’m howling at your post Grin

CruCru · 30/06/2020 18:09

I know a baby Paul (and a few adult ones). It isn’t fashionable (or to my taste) but it is a proper name, with a saint and everything. Siegfried is a heavy burden to make someone else carry.

CruCru · 30/06/2020 18:10

Yes, this.
daisypond · 30/06/2020 18:13

Paul. It’s due a revival. I believe it’s a top-ten baby name in Germany. Siegfried is too much. Is there nowhere between the two extremes you can meet?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/06/2020 18:13

Siegfried Rheingold Walkure Gotterdammerung has a nice ring to it

5plus3 · 30/06/2020 18:13

@DysonFury my 9yo is Paul. Its a lovely name!
