I want him to do something interesting. It is so hard not to roll round on the floor crying, no no no, nerdy nerdy nerdy. I wanted him to do something I might like. The other suggestions were equally scary: Microbiologist, Chemist, Bio-Scientist. Doctor was the only reasonable suggestion in my book and I wouldn't actually encourage him to do that as it is so stressful. I want him to have a nice life with hot chicks in pursuit. An actuary wtf.

I believe Actuaries exist to make Accountancy look exciting by comparison.

Actuarial work requires a really good mathematical brain and attention to detail. The last time I looked it was quite high up the pay leagues too.

I had a friend at school who had a famously gifted brother - they were Vietnamese refugees and Yul Brynner paid his school fees. When he was at Cambridge he rescued a woman from drowning and ended up on a list of eligible bachelors in Tatler or some such. He became an actuary.

I think it's quite a creative way to use maths.

Good money in it! But agree it is not the most exciting sounding career. If he has that sort of mathematical brain then accountancy as a qualification opens lots of other doors.

We cannot live our own life through our children. I want my son to do something he likes.
He needs encouragement in whatever he decides to do, and to be negative about any options may create the stress you wish to avoid should he decide to become a doctor.
Encouraging a life where hot chicks are the 'prize' is not really the way to go

I only got as far as question 2 before I got bored. I obviously need a job which requires the attention span of a gnat.

Duchesse - yes - it was the sister I was friends with, NMC, and her brother was RC.

The training is apparently very long - hopefully that will put him off.

Disappointing though it maybe that the list doesn't come up with something you would like you can't project your hopes and dreams onto him. If he does what you want rather than what he would be good at or would like it will only lead to unhappiness on his part and I am sure none of us want our dc to be unhappy.
