What does this word mean to you?

Might be a bit cheeky but it’s the subject of my dissertation and I’ve found the research fascinating so far. So, fun little experiment (don’t read other people’s comments before answering and give your instinctive answer, don’t think about it too hard!)

What does the word ‘success‘ mean to you?

Achieving your aspirations

Achieving whatever you personally set out to achieve, be it having a happy family life, having your novel published, opening that teashop, being financially secure or whatever it is ie it is definitely not synonymous with "financial success" for me.

DrierThanANunsNasty but thats what I mean... something that make me feel successful is not even necessarily how I would judge someone else as achieving success.

Its really interesting to think about. It's amazing how a word has such a personal definition.

Success means being truly happy and content with where you are right now.

Respect.

@2littlefishes yeah sorry I didn’t realise you’d answered too! Exactly that, it’s the whole basis of my dissertation and I’ve found it fascinating so far - especially when all these gurus try to sell you success but when it’s so objective how can that possibly be the case? The answers here already are fascinating in their uniqueness.

Something other people achieve

Being content with where you are mentally and emotionally.

Achieving what you set out to achieve

I would define success as a positive outcome.

Being happy, having more content days than bad

Doing what you need to do to make you happy

To achieve what you set out to.

When your life is exactly where you wanted it.

To die knowing I did my best to be a good person, that I learned from my mistakes, and leave behind people who genuinely love me.

Being happy with my life as it is.

Achieving your goal (however small) and being pleased at the outcome.

A positive outcome to one of your endeavours.

Happiness

Positive accomplishment.

Financial security

Achieving what you set out to do and feeling a sense of fulfillment in doing so. Making yourself and others proud.

Winning at whatever goal you set yourself.

Being happy with my life choices
