I'm mean, yes I want things back to normal BUT I am still concerned in case we get a spike again. I agree we all need to be careful BUT clearly all these people just thought F* it.
All we've put up with so far with lock down and it seems every one on the beach in question decided to piss it into the wind.

If I were the government I would think I couldn't trust people to use sense at all and put lockdown back in place until either a vaccination or until people realised that if they want lockdown relaxed then they need to prove they can be trusted to show a bit of caution.

Rant over.

@pigeon999

trouble Errr it is 1m plus now newsflash.
No it isn't. One metre us comes into effect on 4th July and that's only in certain circumstances anyway and when other mitigations are made.

@ginghamstarfish

Yes, every single one of these twats should be sent back to work, furlough my arse! As a taxpayer I strongly resent paying for them to sit 6 inches away from random strangers on a beach, on a train, etc. They are clearly demonstrating their willingness to be back at work and not a drain on the treasury. WTF is going on with this government?
How can they all be sent back to work you idiot. I can't go back to work because the place I work is closed. Would you like me and my family to starve.

I've paid plenty of tax and if by some miracle I have a job to go back to,I'll pay plenty more.

merrymouse · 26/06/2020 10:48

Even if there is no second wave, there is a risk to public health if people are effectively swimming in raw sewage.

Redcherries · 26/06/2020 10:49

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras it’s like people heard one sentence on distancing! 2 metres in normal circumstances then 1 m plus if there’s mitigating factors. I might buy a big stick for when
I stop shielding 😂

Redcherries · 26/06/2020 10:50

Need an edit button, I didn’t phrase that well @Hearhoovesthinkzebras but I was agreeing with you!

merrymouse · 26/06/2020 10:52

Given that people have been travelling from Birmingham to Bournemouth, I would guess that restrictions in Wales have led to increased travel to the South Coast.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 26/06/2020 10:53

I live in Dorset and we had a low infection rate in the first wave. I expect it is our turn now! I think it is shit, but at the same time can see why people are doing this. We seem to have been trained to have such an all or nothing mentality in this country - trained to think in extremes - that now that people think restrictions are lifted they are convinced it is safe. I personally wouldn't want to sit on that beach when it is busy in a normal situation and I'm a local! With two small kids it's a recipe for disaster. I guess if we don't get an increase in cases here after this it would be really telling.

I do get a general impression that people have no faith/trust in the government, and their view is that all this has been about using Covid as an excuse to spy on people and introduce lots of QE due to the economy already being on its arse globally before Covid turned up.

If people had an ounce of respect for the government, maybe things would be different, but when you have the PM's closest adviser (A.K.A the real PM) testing his eyes and taking Covid up country to spread it there, how do we expect everyone else to make the right decisions. It also doesn't help that Boris looks so weak that it is comical (and rather worrying). Keir Starmer is annihilating him.

Another thing I am hearing is Covid news fatigue. So many people are switching off from it now, so they are guided by each other. They are probably seeing a packed beach and thinking 'Well everyone else is doing it' and the worse thing the media can do is show pictures of packed beaches (which would probably entice those without a brain to the beach) in the news. They are better off showing the hellish roads and the grim toilets. I do hope most of those people realise they were probably swimming in 40% wee.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 26/06/2020 10:53

I'm not surprised. The attitude is clearly fuck the old and the ill, let em die off cause they don't count.

Look at this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3949359-people-please-stay-home-if-you-can

Plenty of people putting themselves before the population. Plenty of people wishing death on others. Don't give a toss if the illness spreads. I knew from the start the British people would be this way, no wonder we've done so poorly and lost so many. People are cunts.

DilloDaf · 26/06/2020 10:55

I've just seen pictures of all the rubbish left on the beaches, volunteers are clearing it up.
They should leave it for a few days until the hot weather's over, might put people off going there.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 26/06/2020 10:57

@ginghamstarfish

I resent posts like yours that infer the furloughed are feckless and lazy. As my pp said I'd love to be back at work as would all of my colleagues. I'd love my children to be at school...not possible right now.

I'm sure some people are loving it but in my experience most of us are worried and stressed. I hadn't actually realised how vital my work was to my mental health. As soon as the restrictions are lifted i'll be back and I know my colleagues are feeling the same. Most of us quite like being able to make our mortgage payments you know.

Me too. I'm thinking of making signs to hang round my neck, front and back, telling people to stay away when I go for a walk. I'm fed up with stopping to wait for someone coming towards me to pass only for people behind to push past me.

SD is a distant memory around here, just as shielders are starting to get out a bit. Even our new letters stress how important it is for us to maintain strict SD. We can't make other people stay away from us though can we?

Just some of the rubbish collected in 1 hour by a volunteer. People should be fucking ashamed of themselves, but sadly the selfish world we live in they won't care.

bigbadoldbag · 26/06/2020 11:05

@PenelopePitstop49 People are thick if you ask me

In a nutshell Grin

longwayoff · 26/06/2020 11:07

Anyone planning Saturday night out on 4 July? Netflix night for me, definitely.

Coronabegone · 26/06/2020 11:10

@longwayoff not the evening, but certainly hoping for lunch out.

I see the same dementors are on this thread who were crying out about the second wave because people were shopping at primark.... 10 days in and it's not happening!

Do you understand about exponential growth? Why do you think you would see an effect within ten days, or even three weeks?

DilloDaf · 26/06/2020 11:16

Anyone planning Saturday night out on 4 July? ...

I can't understand why pub opening had to be a Saturday night. Seems to be asking for trouble.

Coronabegone · 26/06/2020 11:16

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras back dementing again? It's reducing accept it, we had the frothing about Cornwall, Somerset etc it's not increased the spread!

Be glad? No?

I understand perfectly well, you're not an authority no matter how much you've googled!

Tellmetruth4 · 26/06/2020 11:16

It all went to shit the day Johnson said you could just use to your instincts to guide you during the Cummings scandal. About 10k people had the instinct to go to the beach yesterday but don’t worry Hancocks world beating track and trace system will hopefully be able to alert about 5 of those people in the coming weeks.

Is Chris Whitty a dementia too then? Funny how he tweeted about the beach goers and warning about second peaks isn't it?

It's also not demented to point out that you don't understand exponential growth if you think you will see a rise after ten days.

Coronabegone · 26/06/2020 11:22

Didn't you froth over Cornwall @Hearhoovesthinkzebras ? And primark?

It's DECREASING @Hearhoovesthinkzebras

SockYarn · 26/06/2020 11:24

It's not "dementing", or "demented".

Totally different from "dementor" or "dementoring" which is the act of casting gloom and doom on whichever thread you pop up on, telling everyone confidently that there will be a second wave, everyone will die, and using words like "covidiots" or "darwinism in action". Also "I despair". Hmm

EnlightenedOwl · 26/06/2020 11:30

@pigeon999

The scenes were shocking but not surprising.

People have been locked away for months, there is literally nowhere else to go, of course they are going to charge to the sea on the hottest day of the year. I expect the same to happen on Saturday when the pubs reopen. Much of the country are desperate for fun, good weather and some sense that this is over. I believe the council in Bournemouth and other places should have prepared for this!

Hot sunny day = busy beach

Would I go to the beaches with so many crowds? Of course not, it is my idea of hell, but do I understand the need to relieve the pressure of lockdown, absolutely. We are now seeing the consequences of locking society down and to be expected. It has happening in other parts of Europe as well.

This is true.
SockYarn · 26/06/2020 11:30

I've been trying to explain this to people but they just don't understand. They assume that if they haven't seen s huge rise two weeks after an event then it must mean that there was no effect.

And no, Hooves, it's you who don't understand. Cases aren't increasing AT ALL, exponentially or otherwise. Anywhere in the UK. All cases are decreasing and have been since late April. If all the "second spike covidiots" lot were right, you'd expect to see cases remaining stable at the very least rather than continuing a gradual, steady decline.

But that sort of thinking doesn't suit your doom and gloom attitude, does it? Hmm

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 26/06/2020 11:33

@Coronabegone

Didn't you froth over Cornwall *@Hearhoovesthinkzebras* ? And primark?

It's DECREASING @Hearhoovesthinkzebras

Nope, I didn't "froth" over anything. All that I have ever said is that people should be following the government guidelines, whatever they are at the time.

If you look at countries who have control of this it's the ones with stringent guidelines and populations that abide by them. Having a laissez fairs attitude creates conditions where this can just as easily ramp back up.

I don't understand how anyone can possibly think that's a good thing? Why is it not sensible to be cautious, to be careful and sensible and take the precautions that mean you can start to get back to a more normal life? Why do you want to go for a boom and bust model instead?

telling everyone confidently that there will be a second wave, everyone will die, and using words like "covidiots" or "darwinism in action". Also "I despair". hmm

Haven't said any of that though.

Is there a chance there'll be a second wave - yes. Chris Whitty tweeted his concerns yesterday. Is he a dementor too?
