So Claire won, what do we think of that? I think Nicole should have won...

I think you should have posted this in telly addicts...

Makemeaname · 24/06/2020 22:08

I think claire has been the best across the series and I'm glad she won, but thought Nicole might have just edged it tonight.

ConnellWaldronsChain · 24/06/2020 22:09

I was torn tbh but Clare was the most consistent and precise

Matt and Nicole possibly made more 'wow' garments but they had plenty of disasters too. Clare didn't really have any disasters.

So yes, overall I think Clare did deserve to win!

Bananasinpjs7 · 24/06/2020 22:09

You are quite right. Hopefully mumsnet will change it for me ☺️

Oh, as predicted but as I previously said, Claire is the type of person who is good at everything she does (she could even do the Charleston FFS), so the win is less of an achievement for her. Matt wasn't ever going to win but I had high hopes for Nicole.

LouiseTrees · 24/06/2020 22:12

I think Nicole should have won. I agree that Claire was precise and consistent but I actually felt her finale dress only looked good because of her model’s shape (skinny small chest) rather than it complimenting the model. It actually looked a bit baggy to me and made the model a bit droopy looking.

ConstanceSalinger · 24/06/2020 22:14

Def Claire. I've been on the feminist board drag threads too much to enjoy any of Matt's attempts, some of those horrors you wouldn't find any woman wearing. He didn't have the calibre for the final compared to Liz so it was a pity she didn't make it. I do think when May Martin was on it was less flashy and more clothes that people would actually want to wear but I still very much enjoyed the series.

D4rwin · 24/06/2020 22:16

Claire is just like my sister in law so I am thoroughly unsurprised. But I thought her flapper dress was awful. Bland and badly fitted. But hey, one disaster out of some great pieces.

bridgetreilly · 24/06/2020 22:18

I think Clare did do the best job tonight, so she deserved the win, although Matt's final piece was 'garment of the week' in my book.

bridgetreilly · 24/06/2020 22:22

It was a lot less fun and much more focussed on technique. I like that Esme cares about style as well as skill. And there have been many more clothes I personally have wanted to wear (and make) in recent series than in the earlier ones.

ConstanceSalinger · 24/06/2020 22:26

Yes, that's what I was trying to say but badly! Thanks!

I do think this series has been a bit like the clothes show live of olden times, "wtf is that" etc.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/06/2020 22:28

I thought Clare would win from the first episode. Its a sewing competition not a fashion competition.

Lonelykettleshed · 24/06/2020 22:32

She has been the most consistent and her kilt tonight was amazing. I loved Nicole's transformation challenge and Matt's dress but they have been much more inconsistent over the weeks.
I think that she was a worthy winner.

5foot5 · 24/06/2020 22:37

Glare was my favourite throughout and a worthy winner IMO. But I thought Matt's red carpet gown was stunning

Sorocknroll · 24/06/2020 22:40

I liked clare and we thought she would win weeks ago.

What I did find did though was that the editing did not show the back of her final dress or the judges looking at it like they did with matt or nicole. The dress also looked baggy during the catwalk. This made me think that the dress was not perfect but they couldnt show it otherwise giving clare the win wouldnt be justified.

SoupDragon · 24/06/2020 22:44

I am happy Claire won but would have been happy enough with Nicole.

Guiltyfeminist1 · 24/06/2020 22:44

I didn't like Clare's made to measure tonight but thought she was the best overall during the competition. I actually really liked all of them so I'd have been happy whoever won :)

Covert20 · 24/06/2020 23:27

Massive great pucker right in the front of Clare’s made to measure tonight - that they didn’t mention, it was far from perfect! She’s got none of Nicole’s flair. Some of Nicole’s made to measure’s have just been so beautiful but totally wearable. She’s a really classy sew-er.

HugeAckmansWife · 25/06/2020 00:00

It depends.. Like GBBO, in the final they tend to go for the best consistent performer over the whole series, which would absolutely be Claire. If it was just tonight, it would be difficult. Matt's dress was phenomenal, but 1 and 2 were pants. I personally didn't like Nicole's orange dress but her transformation was great.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/06/2020 08:17

They did mention it. It was probably a close call but Nicole's dress wasn't finished properly, the feathery skirt was just tacked on.
OneMoreLight · 25/06/2020 08:28

I wanted Liz to win, I was disappointed she didn't make it to the final.

SoupDragon · 25/06/2020 08:36

I don't think I actually care much who won. There isn't some huge prize (I don't think) and finalists have all gone onto do more sewing - in fact, most of the contestants generally do as they've learnt so much and enjoyed the whole process.

I can't work out why Nicole didn't try sewing with her feather fabric before the final. It was obviously going to be difficult.

I thought it was interesting that they didn't have any criticisms of Matt's dress at all (that were shown). They pointed out the faults on Nicole's and
Claire's.

ConstanceSalinger · 25/06/2020 08:46

Agree, but it was so new, so fresh because it had a man in it. As a PP said, he didn't have to navigate around boobs or a real waist so it was much easier to dress his square shaped boyfriend. (Who didn't seem to like Matt as much as he liked himself)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/06/2020 08:51

Bugger. Shouldn't have clicked as I haven't watched it yet! But I was amused to see someone else noticing that about Matt's OH. It seemed that way eralrier in the series too!

And yay for Claire
