We've just paid off our holiday to Lanzarote... leave on 9th August. It's a package holiday with Jet2... I reckon we'll get to go... What do you think? Have we gone nuts?

Ooh nice, I’m a bit jealous, I love Lanzarote. What’s the situation with travel insurance though? Will it cover you for corona virus?

Mustbetimeforachange · 23/06/2020 20:27

Any new insurance won't cover you for Covid-19. Apart from that you will be covered if the government lift their "do not travel" advice.

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 23/06/2020 20:28

As long as the FCO lift their ban on non essential travel our travel insurance is fine, it covers us for every COVID related eventuality. We booked it way back in February specifically because of their COVID cover... and that's all still valid as long as the FCO allows it. We checked yesterday, and it's one of the main reasons we went ahead and paid, knowing our insurance was fine.

We're booked to go out there a week later and I am about 90% sure it's going ahead.

Roselilly36 · 23/06/2020 20:31

Not much is open yet in Lanzarote. Many hotels are not re opening until later on in the year. Have you checked with the hotel you have booked that they are open & what will amenities be available for you? It may be worth making some enquiries on Tripadvisor, also check you will still be covered on your travel insurance re Covid, I am assuming FO is still advising against all but essential travel. I love Lanzarote been travelling there for many years, we won’t be going this year.

Theluggage15 · 23/06/2020 20:33

Yes I reckon you’re good to go. Something to look forward to, lovely!

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 23/06/2020 20:33

Yes we've checked the hotel will be open, and have been speaking to the manager who confirms that the pools and entertainment etc will still be going ahead albeit with some changes. Insurance is fine as we booked it before insurances stopped insuring people for COVID related stuff... checked with them yesterday. As long as FCO lifts their advice on non essential travel I reckon we're golden

I'm not sure about hotels but lots of restaurants are reopening in Playa Blanca.

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 23/06/2020 20:35

Yes it's Playa Blanca we are going to. Went last year to the same hotel and loved it!

Ooh which hotel? We are going in Feb with jet2 (rebooked this year’s hol and changed destination) but I did it in a hurry so hoping it is nice. We are playa Blanca labranda suite allysa.

Newbiehere123 · 23/06/2020 20:43

Well my husband asked me today if I'd be interested in going to Spain in 2 weeks and I said yes. I think we will buy tickets last minute depending on when they lift the 2 week quarantine restrictions on the way back. I actually really look forward to it. I'm sure you will be fine and enjoy the countdown for your holiday.

AnyFucker · 23/06/2020 20:43

I love PB ! There is a Facebook group that is very active. It is quiet yet but as tourists come back it will open up.

We go twice a year, last time in January and then had a visit cancelled in May Sad

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 23/06/2020 20:44

It's the Iberostar Lanzarote Park. Amazing hotel

@Newbiehere123 I love the build up to a holiday but I'm going to have to lose some weight over the next six weeks... beached whale here!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 23/06/2020 20:56

I loved Playa Blanca.
There was a gorgeous restaurant when we went last year. I cant remember its name but it was right next to an Irish bar, near the steps for burger King or McDonald's if you could see if its open and post me some bread and oil dips and some garlic prawns i'll be forever grateful 🙏

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 23/06/2020 21:26

Thanks @AnyFucker !

@Nutrigrainygoodness I'm sorry, any garlic prawns won't make it to you... my favourite thing!!

We're booked and everything paid to go to Lanzarote on the 28th.

From TripAdvisor it looks like things are slowly opening with locals saying it will probably be around the 1st July when more open.

Im about 70% positive we're going. What concerns me the most is if flights arent back to 100% of their normal schedule how do they pick who gets to go!

Espoleta · 23/06/2020 21:40

We have Gran Canaria booked for just over 2 weeks time. We’re really hoping the advice will change between now and then and that quarantine is lifted! Our hotel is closed until the 28th so we don’t fully know what’s the deal will be... ekkk so excited

Nutrigrainygoodness · 23/06/2020 21:43

I'm sad now @ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa, hope you have a fantastic holiday. Enjoy your prawns 😁

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/06/2020 21:48

We were due to go to kos 19th August but decided to move it to next year. The hotels will likely socially distanced and no buffets. It wouldn't be the same.

AnyFucker · 23/06/2020 21:48

If you haven't already, you must try the Baileys Ice at Yum Yums. Great people watching place too.

LondonAfterMidnight · 23/06/2020 21:52

We've booked flights to Lisbon for the 9th of August. Our flights were cancelled in April and they'd only give vouchers, and we're not going to be able to use them any other time so thought feck it. The money would be lost either way. We booked an Airbnb with a flexible cancellation so if it goes tits it's no big deal.
