We've just paid off our holiday to Lanzarote... leave on 9th August. It's a package holiday with Jet2... I reckon we'll get to go... What do you think? Have we gone nuts?

We're booked to go to Lanzarote with Jet2 in December - think by then there might be a good chance of it going ahead. However we're going for the marathon so don't know how likely it is that the race will happen if any kind of social distancing is still in place.

Zerrin13 · 23/06/2020 22:49

Turkey on 24th July for 5 weeks!

Thanks all for the replies. I've got my fingers firmly crossed.

IRL so many people have polarising views about going on holiday abroad this summer - many think we are crazy nuts and many more think it's a brilliant idea if we can. I'm obviously still a little apprehensive about bits like the plane and the transfer vehicle... But if the hotel is putting as many things in place as they are saying, being there will be pretty safe I reckon.

AnyFucker is Yum Yums the one with the slightly unusually shaped plastic seats outside?

FairNotFair · 24/06/2020 12:36

OP, I'm hoping to head to Playa Blanca on 4 August - fingers crossed!

BarefootHippieChick · 24/06/2020 12:53

We're booked for Portugal beginning of August, flight still appears to be running so who knows? I know most restaurants etc are open there and they're eager to get the tourists back in, including us!! Staying in a villa so as long as the pool is usable I don't care about anything else! As a pp said though, I really don't think all flights will be up and running as school holidays are absolute chaos, so how do they decide which airports and flights to go and which to cancel?

TheGirlWithAThornInHerSide · 24/06/2020 13:06

Due to go all inclusive (Mallorca) at end of August.
Even if travel is allowed, I don't know how much great it will be, with all the relevant social distancing requirements in the bars, buffet restaurants, kids club, pool, swim up bar, kids disco, etc. Not sure how they'll all be able to operate without massive queues, face masks, etc.
Hoping to hear from people who've gone before we have to pay the balance, to see how well it worked for them.

I’m hoping South Africa will allow tourists in as I’m desperate to see my family there.

If not, we’ll definitely be booking a trip somewhere in Europe. Coronavirus isn’t taking up anymore time in my life than it has to.

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 24/06/2020 13:49

I'm with you @Sousone

I feel like life is for living... Time to get back out there

If things stay the same re quarantine for 24 days here, will you be able to afford the possibility of not getting paid for that?
I did have a holiday booked, now moved to next year but have since been told that regardless of our personal WFH capability, we will not be paid for any government imposed quarantine should we choose to go abroad.

Glittertwins · 24/06/2020 14:09

Sorry, fat fingers - 14 days quarantine!

espoleta · 24/06/2020 14:13

@Sousone I am not holding our hope for SA. Last I read they said they would open the boarders in Feb 2021.
I really hope the rumours aren't true.

Crunchymum · 24/06/2020 14:14

Looks lovely - what is the transfer time from the airport?

We had our last child free holiday in Playa Blanca. Not sure if I should ruin the memory by going back with the kids?? Grin

UnfinishedSymphon · 24/06/2020 14:15

We're hoping to go in December like we do every year, I'm a member of a Lanzarote FB group and lots of bars and restaurants are opening slowly

ineedaholidaynow · 24/06/2020 14:21

If people have to buy new travel insurance now does it cover you for COVID eg if you can't travel as you are self isolating, rather than actually ill?

AnyFucker · 24/06/2020 14:22

@mintyroller Yums Yums is at the harbour end of the promenade, overlooking the ferry port (looks a lot better than it sounds)

You might be thinking of Marea cocktail bar with the white seats
