To ask if you had a planned C section, when did you get your date?

I'm 36 weeks and every appointment since I was 28 weeks the hospital have told me they'd book me in for my planned section at the next appointment. I'm in on Thursday and I'm sick of being told the same thing everytime, I just want the bloody date instead of being fobbed off.

So I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what week they were given their date? And if the doctor tried to talk them out of it? I feel like they might be hoping I'll change my mind as last time I had an emergency section after a traumatic birth and I 100% will not be going through it again and I won't be budging on my decision. I'm just wondering if that may be why they haven't booked it or if its normal to still not have it booked by 36 weeks when it's it be done at 39 weeks?

I was given my date at 23 weeks ish but it was changed by a few days a month or so before the date. Probably done differently in different areas and also different because of current times.

Kaj29 · 23/06/2020 13:51

Hope you are given a date soon though. Can’t imagine how frustrating that must be!

HoomanMoomin · 23/06/2020 13:53

I got my date around 25 weeks.
I don’t think it’s normal that they’re waiting so long. In fact I think they hope that you’ll go into labour before the date is set. I would be telling them that I’m not leaving before they set the date.

twinkletoedelephant · 23/06/2020 13:53

I was 7 months and twins were lying transverse and breach and both measured big (they were 7&5lb).... Very strange he just flicked open a planner and asked what date I would like.
They never moved positions.

Micromamma · 23/06/2020 13:58

I only got signed off for mine at 36 weeks. They'd told me they wouldn't consider it until that point early on so I knew, but i still mentioned it at every consultant appointment from 16 weeks so that they knew i was serious about it and had made my mind up. I had my baby by c section bang on 39 weeks.

BankofNook · 23/06/2020 14:01

With DC3 I got my provisional date at 24wks then I changed it by request at 37wks.

With DC4 I got my date at my 12wk scan but I was high risk so it was booked in as the absolute latest date they could deliver by then they changed it at 34wks and again at 37wks, bringing it forward each time.

Proudpeacock · 23/06/2020 14:01

At 36 weeks for 39 weeks due to placenta previa

Wfhwith3yearold · 23/06/2020 14:04

I'm 24 weeks and will likely have one. I've an appointment at 31 weeks where I will confirm and should get a date soon after. Been told it will be 39 weeks.

If anything I was talked into it. Was initially a bit hesitant cause i was worried about a second spike, although this is unlikely. Was told that I'll probably be in hospital 24-48 hours regardless and if I think I'll go for a section just have it.

MuchTooTired · 23/06/2020 14:04

I think mine got booked in at 34 weeks for my DTs, to be delivered at 38+2. I got lucky though as my usual consultant wasn’t available (he was dead against an elcs) and the female consultant I saw got it arranged immediately at that appointment.

Didn’t make it to the date, I had them at 36+5.

userabcname · 23/06/2020 14:08

I got mine confirmed at 36 weeks by the consulatant then the specific date was texted to me about a week in advance. I knew I'd have it at 39w and went in at 39+3.

Phillipa12 · 23/06/2020 14:11

For dc2,3 and 4 I got my section date 2 weeks beforehand. ELCS are usually carried out IN the 39th week of pregnancy unless there are medical reasons that require an early delivery of baby so you do know which week baby will arrive you just need to secure the actual day. With dc2 and 3 they were delivered at 39 weeks precisely, dc4 was due to be delivered at 39+4 but they rescheduled me to 38+2 due to severe anxiety (death of a dc).

Gulpingcoffee · 23/06/2020 14:17

Both times at 20 weeks seeing the consultant after the scan. They booked it in there and then.

LGY1 · 23/06/2020 14:32

I’ve just had a planned c section (baby is 1 week old)
I didn’t get a date until 36 weeks. It was for 39 weeks.
Not sure if current climate is changing things.

I didn’t get talked out of it at all, even though I was expecting that to happen.
At first appointment I just had to nod while they talked through all the risks of c section (very biased, risks of vbac, failed induction again etc etc very much played down!)
Then at second appointment which was over the phone I just had to confirm which option I wanted, no pushing either way

OnTheFencePaint · 23/06/2020 14:40

I had an appointment with a consultant where I got booked in at 36 weeks. However that appointment was in the diary from quite early on.

They do talk through the risks. I was ready to talk through my justification, but it turned out to be a male consultant (sorry to offend anyone but I was a bit taken aback) so I just said yep yep yep to the risks (which I’d already looked into) and the boxes got ticked.

StarsOnAMat · 23/06/2020 14:46

Was given the date at 36 week appt for 39+6. Went into labour 38+6 and couldn’t have a section as there was nobody to perform it when I arrived.

fedupandlookingforchange · 23/06/2020 14:46

Not got a date yet, I'm 33 weeks. My midwife was very surprised especially as I don't need to see the consultant again. Midwife said she'll book it when she next sees me if I've still not got a date.

Merryoldgoat · 23/06/2020 14:48

No date until 38 weeks.

TiggeryBear · 23/06/2020 14:55

I was meant to be booking mine at my 35weeks appointment but my waters broke instead 😬 I ended up having a sort of emergency elective c-section at 35+2 as I started having contractions 🙈 DP missed DC2's birth by hours as he was flying back from USA - it was meant to be his last business trip before DC arrived but DC had other ideas 😂 fortunately my Mum was with me but she & my Dad were supposed to be flying to a Greek Island the following morning 😂
DP almost missed the birth of DC1 as well as he was meant to be at a motor show in Switzerland at the time 😂😂😂 think DC were determined to ruin our plans even before they were born. They still do it now 😬😂

SquigglePigs · 23/06/2020 14:57

It was around 36 weeks I think. And was booked it for 39+3.

Bluewarbler27 · 23/06/2020 14:58

Both times at 20 week scan after seeing consultant.

FlowerTink · 23/06/2020 15:00

My first baby a few years ago was booked at 34 weeks. My second baby born earlier this year, I had it booked in at about 24/25 weeks.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 23/06/2020 15:09

I didn't get my date until almost 37 weeks to go in at 39+4.
It did get a bit nerve wracking near the end wondering if they were ever going to give me a date!

Rosebel · 23/06/2020 15:11

I was told I'd get mine a week before so at 38 weeks. It didn't happen in the end because I had to have my c section early
I was told the dates are being given at short notice at the moment.

RainRainGoAway12 · 23/06/2020 15:14

I got my date at 38 weeks and I was booked in for bang-on 40 weeks. I was on holiday for the appointment date they wanted me to come in for at 37 weeks but I assume they’d have given me a date for 39 weeks if I had (as that is standard practice) Our trust don’t book dates earlier than two weeks in advance I believe (unless specific medical need, I imagine)
