To ask if you had a planned C section, when did you get your date?

I'm 36 weeks and every appointment since I was 28 weeks the hospital have told me they'd book me in for my planned section at the next appointment. I'm in on Thursday and I'm sick of being told the same thing everytime, I just want the bloody date instead of being fobbed off.

So I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what week they were given their date? And if the doctor tried to talk them out of it? I feel like they might be hoping I'll change my mind as last time I had an emergency section after a traumatic birth and I 100% will not be going through it again and I won't be budging on my decision. I'm just wondering if that may be why they haven't booked it or if its normal to still not have it booked by 36 weeks when it's it be done at 39 weeks?

That makes it sound like I missed an appointment! I didn’t, I just re-arranged for a week later.

PrincessPain · 23/06/2020 15:50

My first one I was told at around 36 weeks and was booked in for 39+1.
Second one I was told at 13 weeks and was booked in for 39 weeks.

EndlessUserName · 23/06/2020 15:51

20 weeks

Connie222 · 23/06/2020 15:58

They’ve been trying to book my section since 20 weeks. I’ve had three consultant appointment and at each one no one in booking picks up the phone.

Mainly because my appointments are always after 4pm and it says very clearly on the board in the consultants rooms that the booking office shuts at 2pm.

But still they keep trying and just shrug their shoulders. Apparently there is no other way of doing it.

I pointed out the email address on the sign at the last appointment and no lie, the consultant couldn’t work out how to log in to the system and send it.

I’m not exactly filled with confidence.

Going again in a couple of weeks and if it’s the same charade I’ll speak to the supervisor of midwives and make a complaint.

I was given my date at 39 weeks! Had my c section on 39+5. It was really stressful for me now knowing what was going on.

Jesus! Dh is already getting pressure about booking paternity leave which is why I need to know. They would have booked him in for meetings by then, 5 days notice!

I had an emergency sec with my first and was given a date for my planned section on the day I requested one at 16 weeks.

CoRhona · 23/06/2020 16:10

Mine was a couple of weeks beforehand.

I'd also had a emergency csection with DC1 so with DC2 they said if they hadn't arrived naturally by x date it would be a csection. They were concerned his size could cause my scar tissue to tear open.

He was 10lbs and I did have a csection.

THNG5 · 23/06/2020 16:13

At a scan at 34 weeks, baby was breech. Next scan at 36 weeks, still breech and very big. I signed the paperwork for c section assuming he wouldn't turn. I got a call 2 weeks before with the date. He was born at 39+2

emodi · 23/06/2020 17:35

Usually at 34 weeks they just put it on the computer. But at your next appointment just pin them down and say you want the date for the booking or you want to complain . You need to plan totally unacceptable. Usually they do it after the 39 th completed week except if there are medical issues. Some people like to book it for their due date if they are keen to try for a vaginal delivery but want don’t want to be induced so if they go into labour before edd they go ahead and if not they have an elective section .

I am pregnant currently and booked in mine at my 12 week appointment. I was quite surprised as there is not a definitive medical reason for it and I have had a previous vbac.

Spinakker · 23/06/2020 19:02

I remember it being very late like 37 weeks. Got assigned a great date though 08/08/2018 - very memorable DOB i thought, so that made me chill out a bit !

PetraRabbit · 23/06/2020 19:06

Less than a week before, so around 38 weeks. This was just a few months ago.

DearTeddyRobinson · 23/06/2020 20:52

It was supposed to be earlier but was around 32 weeks. Some letter had got lost in the post or some shit. Call up the obstetrics department and ask when you are scheduled for. If you're not in the diary they will probably put you in there and then (well that's what happened to me, large London teaching hospital)

kirinm · 23/06/2020 20:53

I think I was booked in at around 34 weeks.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 23/06/2020 21:27

I had my last 18 years ago but was only booked in for my CS about 2 weeks before. It was arranged for 2 days before my actual due date. My female GP was very supportive but my midwife did her best to change my mind. I just smiled sweetly and she gave up!

StonedRoses · 23/06/2020 21:39

A lot depends on how the hospital runs the lists - whether they’re done on labour ward or a desperate theatre and such like. Where I work we don’t book them till post 35 weeks. Reason is that theatre scheduling is such a complex process and even more so in obstetrics. Indications change, some need sections later, some later don’t. We need to ensure that slots are filled appropriately - and arrangements made if we need more slots. Others deliver early or need bringing forward. So it’s just not possible to book them earlier.

About a month before, I think... It was around Christmas and it was scheduled for end of January.

BoudicasBoudoir · 23/06/2020 21:48

A rough date was given quite early - at about 20 weeks. It was all booked in with the consultants at probably 28 weeks, but then brought forward anyway, due to the baby being in a transverse position.

Beldon · 24/06/2020 00:25

I was given my date at 38 weeks - put massive amount of stress on an already stressful pregnancy

LettyBriggs · 24/06/2020 00:29

I had mine at 38+5. I think I was told at about 30 weeks. My. consultant got her diary out, decided that the guideline date of 39 weeks was a Saturday so she decided to schedule it the Thursday before. It was that scientific.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 24/06/2020 00:39

At my last Consultation. Probably 32 weeks ish.

Picklypickles · 24/06/2020 01:08

I never got it, had a growth scan just before Christmas and went into labour just after Christmas at 37 weeks!

😱🤣 Guessing you meant a separate theatre?

StonedRoses · 24/06/2020 16:39

I did indeed. Bloody autocorrect!
