To be totally floored by first trimester fatigue??

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and I am SO FUCKING TIRED. This is my second pregnancy and I'm sure I only felt this feeble in the third trimester last time! I'm quite a bit fatter now, could that be why I'm so much harder hit? I also have nausea (no vomitting) whereas last time I was very secretly smug about having no sickness at all!

Seriously I'm supposed to be working but I'm so groggy today, worst day yet... Why is this so hard second time round??

Ps I know if could be so much worse, not looking for sympathy, just don't understand why it's so different to baby 1! Is it completely random?

I would never normally want to tell people about pregnancy before my first scan, but I'm now desperate to tell my mate just so I can whinge 😆

I'm always amazed people manage to keep their pregnancy quiet till 12 weeks without people thinking they're dying! I slept for 12 hours every day for weeks!

Loladisco · 22/06/2020 15:12

OP I could have written your post, first trimester with my first pregnancy was an absolute breeze (bar a bit of bloating and tiredness). This one made me feel absolutely awful. I'm 14 weeks now and feel so much better, I think after about week 10 things started to improve for me. So hang on in there, and congratulations!

VeniceQueen2004 · 22/06/2020 15:13

@Madmoxxi right??! I just want to be lying down all the time!! My poor 3yo.... "Mummy's tiiiired" has become my repetitive refrain equivalent to her "I want a snack"! 😆

Thanks @Loladisco! Glad you're feeling better, I'll hang on in there eats all the ginger biscuits

Probably because you have a toddler, it’s not as easy to just relax I guess.

CupCupGoose · 22/06/2020 15:16

The tiredness in the first half of pregnancy is indescribable. Take it easy and nap when you can.

BillywigSting · 22/06/2020 15:16

Yanbu.

Most exhausted I've ever been, including final exam week and the horror that is the newborn stage. It's a tiredness that gets right into your bones and is impossible to shake.

Never again.

MrsL2016 · 22/06/2020 15:17

This was me in my first trimester with my DS. Bone tired for weeks and had constant nausea but very little actual sickness. I managed to get through work but once home I did absolutely nothing and went to bed at 8pm. It went away about week 11 for me.

RainySaturday · 22/06/2020 15:18

First pregnancy I literally struggled to walk round the block in first 2 months. I was so tired. You are not alone.
Next 2 pregnancies completely different and don't remember being tired at all.

TwoDrifters2 · 22/06/2020 15:19

Totally agree @Madmoxxi I remember one of the worst times at about 8 weeks, clutching onto the handrail in Oxford Circus tube station thinking I could just sink to the floor and sleep there quite happily… I barely made it home and literally dropped my coat and bag on the floor and fell on the bed. Slept straight through until the next day.

BillyAndTheSillies · 22/06/2020 15:20

YANBU. 1st trimester tiredness is indescribable. First time around I used to climb under my desk at lunch time and nap for an hour, come home, sleep until dinner, eat and go straight back to bed.

2nd time around I was in a constant sleepy fog until about 16 weeks and felt awful on DS1 because I physically couldn't bring myself to move off the sofa or out of bed.

summerfish · 22/06/2020 15:24

Totally agree the tiredness can floor you.

I mistook a severe iron deficiency for tiredness in my second pregnancy so it might be worth getting checked for anaemia. (I also had hyper emesis.)

Dylaninthemovies1 · 22/06/2020 15:26

When I was pregnant I was wanting to go to bed at 5pm every night in the first trimester. Even had a few naps in the first aid room at work!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 22/06/2020 15:29

Did I write this and forget?! 6 weeks pregnant and feeling awful - I slept from 8.30 last night to 6.30 this morning and woke up still feeling tired Confused. I am certain I didn't feel like this with DS because that pregnancy was my first successful one after several miscarriages so I remember spending the whole first trimester worrying desperately about feeling 'too good and too normal' - no fear of that at the moment!

HoldMyLobster · 22/06/2020 15:31

My second pregnancy was easiest then my third was by far hardest. I was exhausted and permanently nauseous to 16 weeks but had been lulled into a false sense of security by my easy second pregnancy.

Someone described the tiredness as ‘You sit down to tie your shoelaces and wake up 2 hours later.’

picklemewalnuts · 22/06/2020 15:32

First trimester with DS1, early on, wasn't even sure I was pg as I'd not had a GP appt to confirm (early days of home testing). I was dozing off while having my nails done, and the nail tech assured my I was indeed pregnant!

DappledOliveGroves · 22/06/2020 15:32

Strangely I'm the opposite. 6 weeks' pregnant, a bit tired, but feel pretty normal. My first pregnancy I was exhaused, vomiting daily and felt like death. Hoping for some proper pregnancy symptoms to kick in as I can't stop worrying that I feel too good!

longcoffee · 22/06/2020 15:37

I'm the same! I am meant to be working today, have managed the tiniest amount and am now going to reward myself with a nap 😴

Rocksandstones · 22/06/2020 15:39

I was the same, really struggled with tiredness from about week 4. It turned out to be twins!

Bmidreams · 22/06/2020 15:42

I'd get in from work and be in bed by 5.30pm. Dh would bring me my dinner up. I'd eat the same thing every night: jacket potato with cheese and salad. I didn't want anything else.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/06/2020 15:45

Oh god, there is no tiredness like 1st trimester tiredness! Even newborn days were easier!

Sunshine1235 · 22/06/2020 15:45

It’s so awful OP, whinge away all you like! I’ve found each pregnancy I’ve had progressively worse if I’m honest, I don’t know if it’s age, having other children or just my body fed up of going through pregnancy. Anyway on no.3 now and I can’t go through it again

drownininplaymobil · 22/06/2020 15:53

I can remember being so tired in my first trimester that I couldn't even bring myself to stand up in the shower. I showered sitting down with my eyes closed 😁

VeniceQueen2004 · 22/06/2020 15:53

@Rocksandstones Don't say that!!! I can't be doing with twins, too tired! Grin

@Bmidreams that's a good man you've got there... I'm normally a chocolate person but all I want at the monent is beige carbs, ideally salty ones!

You're all making me feel less wimpy - thank you! Will just have to soldier on to tri 2!
