I can't sneeze quietly, either, and I'm a woman... I try my best to suppress a sneeze if I'm in a place where a loud one could wake or disturb someone or embarrass me but if I can't stop it completely, I don't think I can control its volume very well at all. I simply don't have a dainty, "lady-like" sneeze.

ShinyFootball · 22/06/2020 01:51

I sneeze with gusto

AAAAAAAHHHHHCHOOOOOOO

I picked it up from my dad. It's just how I sneeze.

When I met people (always women I think) who do that tiny little sneeze thing I don't get it.

A sneeze is because your nose is irritated by something and is trying to get rid of it. How can squeaking quietly do that? I honestly don't understand how that is even a thing but it is v common.

As in not that it's wrong, I just don't understand how it works.

omtotheg · 22/06/2020 01:55

Yes I can sneeze pretty loudly myself if I don't try and control it in any way, but I've never actually heard a man sneeze quietly.

I have heard a man at work sneeze daintily. I have a loud sneeze

Namechangexxxxx · 22/06/2020 02:02

My OH sneezes quietly if he can control it, I find it hilarious Grin but if he doesn't control it then it scares the shit out of me. My dad is the worst.

Goosefoot · 22/06/2020 02:20

I've met men with normal sneezes. Alas my dh isn't one of them. I've asked him why he sneezed like that and he has no clue what I meant and seemed a bit upset that I disapproved, so I guess it just seems normal to some.

Kaathesnake · 22/06/2020 02:22

My dh used to say he’d never known a family be so noisy with sneezing, coughing, vomiting and farting!!
I cannot vomit quietly, ( hate it). it’s accompanied by wailing and crying, my Dad was a really loud sneezer and my ds coughing used to rattle our windows! The elderly gentleman over the road used to say ‘oh I hear ‘ds’ is poorly... I heard him coughing last night... oh the shame 😖

ShinyFootball · 22/06/2020 02:26

I come from a noisy family. Sneezing is loud.

Obviously I don't belch or fart with gusto at work but at home I neither make louder or quieter.

(Why does autocorrect turn fart into Gary???)

However. DH breathes really loudly. I have seen other women in MN mention this. Unless you are ill breathing shouldn't be loud?

Bunnymumy · 22/06/2020 02:54

Lol and then they do that little fuss noise thing afterwards like 'omg I am in complete disbelief that I just did that' xD

ACHOO!...uh!?!? ACHOO!...oh!?!?

Tbf, so do I xD

MrsClatterbuck · 22/06/2020 02:55

My dad put his back out sneezingShock. I have a loud sneeze myself but unless it's one of those sneezes where you have some sort of warning there's not really a lot you can do to control it.

BuntysBumperAnnual · 22/06/2020 02:58

Men don't feel the need to be quiet. Some of them are, but it's not an imperative.

RantyAnty · 22/06/2020 03:22

My ex exaggerated his sneezes making them so loud it sounded like some type of horn/whistle/siren. Annoying af.

He'd also make random whistling noise and denied doing it. Funny I haven't heard it since I left.

StarlightLady · 22/06/2020 03:31

I wish they wouldn’t, it always makes me jump! Many also seem to have the need to yawn really loudly too. Strange.

Aveisenim · 22/06/2020 03:43

My DP sneezes fairly quietly me on the otherhand.... Grin

PhilCornwall1 · 22/06/2020 03:47

I sneeze quietly, my eldest son on the other hand, he's like the Flying Scotsman going through a tunnel. He shakes the whole sodding house!!!

NC95738495 · 22/06/2020 03:52

The more middle aged a man gets the more fucking screamy his sneezes get. HATE scream sneezers.

tobee · 22/06/2020 03:54

My husband sneezes too quietly; he sounds like a guinea pig ConfusedGrin

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 22/06/2020 03:55

I love a good loud sneeze.

I try to catch one if I feel like it's going away. A bit like dreams in The BFG animated film.

It's not for attention because I do it when I'm alone too.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 22/06/2020 03:56

I would find that impossibly cute, Tobee.

autopilotpeach · 22/06/2020 03:59

I think it depends what you mean by loudly, i think its hard to sneeze completely quietly.. but some people go all out and do a loud "ACHOOOOOOOO" they say the word as they do it.. yes that bit can be avoided

EmperorCovidula · 22/06/2020 04:17

I worked with someone once who would do the tiniest daintiest sneezes (so dainty that the first time I had to ask whether he’d just sneezed). I was very impressed and envious.

daisychain01 · 22/06/2020 04:39

All joking aside, people need to change their behaviour since CV, like immediately - all the uncontrolled sneezing is massively anti-social.

Presumably these excessively loud sneezers don't bother to use a tissue, so all their germs spray everywhere.

It's so vile I can't even think about it without feeling pissed off by their selfishness.

And yes men, it does tend to be you.

TheNestedIf · 22/06/2020 05:04

My boss (whom I otherwise actually like) sounds like a firework when he sneezes

"WFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

On occasion, it has caused me to jump so hard I've thrown coffee all over myself.

NCjune20 · 22/06/2020 05:06

It's not so much the noise of sneezing with my DH (although he is loud) but the fact his whole body has to get involved. Arms, legs, feet, everything. If he sneezes in bed he literally (involuntarily) jumps out of the bed, limbs flinging aimlessly in wild abandon. Then he'll calmly just lie back down again as if nothing happened. Dont even get me started on if a sneeze sneaks up on him while he's having a cuppa. My poor living room ceiling 😭

TheNestedIf · 22/06/2020 05:12

Disclaimer, I'm not a messy or particularly noisy sneezer.

DP once decided to try that cartoon thing of suddenly preempting my tissue and shoving a finger under my nose when he observed me limbering up for a sneeze.

Much to his glee and my surprised indignation, it actually worked.
