OP, ignore those posters who say ... AIBU to be think this is really fucking rude?

I keep seeing this now. OP posts something, people respond and then someone (sometimes more) comes along and says 'Ignore the posters who blah blah blah'. In other words 'ignore everyone who disagrees with me'. Can't these people have a conversation or debate with anyone? It's really rather rude.

Dear reader, I should should say that I'm really not terribly worried by this, it's just a mild annoyance because I think it's a cop out for proper conversation.

No I tell the OP to ignore posters who are being unnecessarily rude or saying things like the OP is vile or selfish - ie making personal attacks.

I would agree in principle, but on occasion those posters are saying things like 'I can't believe you got yourself in this situation, I would never do that. You're actually a dreadful person. Hope that helps'...so sometimes it is reasonable to say to posters, 'bloody well ignore that, there's a way out!'

This. But then I've come to realise Mumsnet is not the place to have mature, intellectual discussions about disagreeing opinions. I go to other sites for that and just read the drama on here for entertainment

It depends what they are saying you should ignore. I was reading a post earlier where the first few posts did nothing but criticise the op’s grammar. It was horrible and totally unfair on the op who was clearly stressed and needing real advice. In that case I think there is nothing wrong at all with calling them out and saying they should be ignored as they made no attempt to engage with the question.

Have to agree with PP, I most often see it when the OP is being attacked and posters being unhelpful/off topic.

Agree, I find it very odd and slightly arrogant to be honest. Some random rolls in and says ignore everyone but me, it’s batshit. 🤣

Well it isn't rude to come on and correct those who have shared incorrect information . Doing a huge favour !

I also find this annoying, along with ‘I’m sure someone will be along in a minute to tell you blah blah blah, but....).

I've seen it on posts where people have given incorrect medical advice eg leav s child naked and give them a sponge bath if they've got a fever - which is dangerous. So I think fair enough in those instances. Also when people advise he OP to show their violent abusive partner their thread with everyone saying leave, it's not a good idea and people are saying it because they are worried about the OP

Yes I keep seeing this more lately too and it's not just 'Ignore rude posters'.

It's often when someone doesn't agree with the other opinions.

Yes, those are the main situations I've seen it used in - when a poster is genuinely suggesting something dangerous. (That, and as PP have noted, threads where some arse is putting the boot into the OP for no apparent reason.)

Couldn’t it just be paraphrased with ‘don’t be upset by the trolls’?. But it's often just when someone disagrees, rather than being a troll. @Rainingmeatballs. It's the whole 'dismiss anyone else who isn't me' things that gets my goat I suppose.

It's usually because of some incredibly rude and obnoxious posters. There is a difference between offering constructive advice and being downright unpleasant, and posters should not have to be subject to the latter.

I disagree @eaglejulesk, twice today I've seen it just because someone disagreed with the poster who told the OP to ignore. Both were just posts telling the OP to ignore anyone else who said something different to the advice they were giving. It's really quite arrogant.

I agree. It comes over to me as "ignore everyone who isn't validating you".

And it is rude when you see "OP ignore poster name "

I’m not saying people don’t use it to mean “ignore anyone who disagrees” but I think used that way it carries less weight when it’s a matter of opinion

Putting right incorrect information or accusing someone of being a troll is very different to ignore everyone who says x.

Some people do just pile on with bollocks though.
